We enjoyed sitting outside and watching the world go by, and we had our dog with us too. My dish was bland, though it hit the spot. I ended up adding some sauces to it. Service wise, they're friendly! There was a big group eating on the patio as well and so we were kind of forgotten for awhile, but understandable given the circumstances. I hadn't been to the Noodle Shop in a while. When making the decision to eat downtown, it just never makes the list. I remember why now. It's pretty boring food. It's not bad, but it's not great. The Bao zi appetizer was completely bland, and the dipping sauce served with it didn't add much flavor. The won ton soup was "fine" - the veggies were fresh and crisp and the noodles were cooked well, but again, there wasn't much flavor to the broth. The cramped indoor space and poor service (the indoor space is small enough that I know both servers could see my empty tea and water glasses that were never refilled) could be forgiven if the food was excellent, but it's just not. There are many other better places around town (and downtown) to get Asian inspired food. read more

Came here as a recommendation from a friend who loves the place. It was not my favorite, but I didn't read any reviews ahead of time because she said everything was good. The pan fried dumplings were pretty good but my peanut noodles were sort of bland. I was expecting more flavor but it was really like eating noodles and peanut butter. My husband enjoyed his soup... We also sat outside because they allow dogs (bonus!) but the people watching was a bit unnerving. Of course this is not the restaurants fault but it's unpleasant witnessing screeching on a microphone on one end and someone blasting heavy metal, playing with a dumbbell, and getting into fights on the other end. My hubby and I visited Asheville a couple weeks ago, and after walking around and shopping we need a hearty lunch. Nothing too greasy or indulgent though because we were heading to a wedding that night. The Noodle Shop perfectly hit the spot! It's a cute little casual restaurant with indoor & outdoor seating. We enjoyed sitting outside people watching & listening to the street performers. My vegan dumplings (Bao Zi) were SOOOOO GOOD- especially the soup broth that came with it for dipping. I also liked my vegan rice noodle dish, lots of fresh veggies, and too big a portion to finish. Our waitress was sweet & attentive. If I'm ever in town again I will def try some more of their menu! The food here is amazing! There were 6 of us and no one had a bad meal. We order the hot and sour soup, steamed pork dumplings for apps, the peaking duck noodle dish, tomato and egg noodle soup, and the pad Thai. Everything was phenomenal. Our waiter was excellent and had worked there for a long time. He gave us great recommendations and was very knowledgeable. The service was great today, however we were disappointed with the atmosphere and cleanliness inside. I saw a cook picking at his nose. The water in the bathroom was either piping hot or not warm enough for proper handwashing. This is a small little noodle shop wedged in downtown Asheville. Overall it was pretty good. We were seated right when it opened, and they kept on top of our drink refills. First off the pan fried dumpling are amazing! I could have eaten several orders. Definitely get an order of those. They are crispy and juicy. We ordered the pad Thai and the wonton soup. It is nice that you can chose what type of noodle you would like with your dish. The pad Thai had a good amount of flavor, but had to add a little more spice to it. The wontons in the wontons soup were flavorful, but the actual soup was missing something. I would come back, but I would try other dishes. read more

This was a very cute shop but felt a little crowded. The food was pretty good but this was also my first noodle shop I have gone to. They had a 94 in cleanness and I'm all about that. I would recommend this place but don't drive a long distance to eat here. We got the normal size of Asheville noodles and it fed 4 people including 2 kids. The kids enjoyed the atmosphere. Came here on a rainy day and didn't want to sit outside. I was apprehensive at first because it's so tiny inside. I was surprised we even got a table. It took a while for us to get service considering that the servers walked by us several times. The four star rating comes next - once we ordered our food came out immediately and we continued to get great service. We had the Asheville noodle bowl and pad Thai and both were delicious. Nice lil divey spot for pretty good asianish (is that a word lol) style food. It's tiny folks so no large crowds. They do have patio seating that offers up an extra 5-6 tables and you get to people watch (one of my fave pastimes) and enjoy the street performers! They hav a few options of white and red wines - bottled IPA's and plum wine if you like very very sweet wine. Not for me but to each his own. I read the reviews about poor or slow service but we had a great experience. We were seated in under 15 mins (party of 6) and water was served up immediately. Our server was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. The dumplings are good - the Mongolian Beef was a lil too sweet for my hubby but I like sweeter Mongolian so no complaints from me. I ordered the special of the day which was portabella mushroom over the noodle of your choice in the most delicious garlic white wine sauce -TIP add the mix veggies at no extra charge to add more texture and color to the dish. Traveling to western NC and decided to stop for lunch based on a magazine review. It was unseasonably warm Monday afternoon, so I chose to sit outside. Thank goodness- inside is VERY small and close. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the expectations I had based on the review. I had the Szechuan noodle soup with chicken and thin rice noodles. The soup came out quickly and was hot-but that's all that I can say was good about it. The soup was SO bland- no wonder they offered soy sauce and sriracha . Even those couldn't help. I was very unhappy with my scandalous experience at this restaurant last weekend. Let's call it Noodle-gate. So when I perused the menu, I was actually impressed with how they described the noodle types in Americanized terms if you will. They said they had angel hair-style pasta, linguine style, and then a fettuccine style. So I said that I definitely wanted the angel hair-style noodles. When my meal was brought out however, they were the thicker linguine style noodles. I complained and the male server said that that was what they called angel-hair style. I found that perplexing, and said "Well, these aren't anything like angel-hair, but ok..." He was polite about it, but didn't offer to change anything. And I just accepted it although I shouldn't have. Additionally, the dish contained all cheap ingredients. (They really tried to skimp on money on this one.) It had little small shrimp (who puts small shrimp like that in their Asian dishes at a sit-down restaurant?) It contained peas and carrots that were reminiscent of canned peas and carrots, as well as onions that seemed like they were procured from chopped-up veggies section of the grocery store. But in spite of that, I kept the dish because the sauce actually had a rather decent flavor. Towards the end of my meal (unfortunately, it was at the end...), I saw that the lady across me had ordered an appetizer that used large prawn shrimp. I also saw that she had the angel-hair style noodles in her main dish! So they did have normal restaurant-quality shrimp AND they did have the thin angel-hair style noodles! What the...? By this point, the male server seemed to be unavailable, and the female server on duty noticed that I needed someone's attention and came over. I told her about the noodles that the other lady had, that I was expecting to have gotten, and she said "Oh no, those are mung (sp.?) noodles and they weren't what they use for the angel-hair style. She also revealed that they were out of the ones that they use for angel-hair and so they were using the fettucine-style noodles as angel-hair style and as fettucine-style. What??? - seriously??? So they were basically lying instead of just saying they didn't have the angel-hair style (even though in reality they actually did because I saw them). I asked to speak to the manager, and she said there wasn't a manager available at the time. She politely asked if there was anything they could do for me to make up for it. I said "Well, I don't know, you could reimburse me the charge of appetizer or something." That's all I could really think of. She said "Well, I can't really do that because you've already eaten most of the food." I was thinking 1) I wouldn't have eaten it if I had known you had the right noodles. And 2) Why did you offer to do something if you can't do anything? At that point, as I was just flustered and I didn't want to quibble over the $20 I had wasted any longer. I just cut their tip in half and left, and vowed to write this review once I got back home. I guess describing the noodles in Americanized terms was not very effective or impressive at all. read more

Just love this place! I stand by all my great comments from 2 years ago. My wife and I sat inside on a cold day in Asheville. We had the Shumai and Lamb Kebabs for appetizer. Delicious! Then she had Shrimp Pad Thai and I had Sweet & Spicy Soup. So tasty! The atmosphere was completely authentic and the service was so friendly and efficient. Definitely one of our favorite places and worth the 90 minute trip for us to get there. Highly recommend if you enjoy real Chinese food. read more

I've tried pretty much everything on the menu and I always go back to the pecking meat sauce noodles. I love that they give you different options for noodles. The food in Asheville is so amazing so this restaurant has a lot of competition. Compared to other food experiences I can only give it 3 stars. The spring rolls were great but the fried tofu left a lot to be desired. The crispness on the outside was good but it had no flavor. We had the Spring Noodle Bowl, the Dan Dan Noodle Bowl, the Dan Lu (?) Noodle Bowl and Pad Thai. They were all okay but nothing to rave about. The noodle shop: Ambience: It's a whole in the wall, mom and pop restaurant, that is in the center of downtown. The interior of the restaurant is really small probably about eight tables total and all within feet of each other but still enough room to be comfortable. There are local art work on the wall that I believe were for sale, all beautiful pieces that gave some life to the empty white walls in the restaurant, there is also a patio area that would have been nice to sit if the weather was a little be better and warmer. Service: Our server was extremely friendly and respectful of us and our experience. I found out that she was a newer server there which made sense because she didn't really recommend anything which I tried to get her to do in the beginning since I was a tourist of the city and had never been to that restaurant. Food: The food was amazing! For our appetizer we had the spinach and flour pancake, so flavorful and perfect for an appetizer because it wasn't too heavy. Cut into the shape of a pizza pie it came with six pieces I shared with my sister and mother. It was the perfect size, anymore guest I would recommend getting two. Our entrees we ordered were Noodle Bowls because how can you go to 'The Noodle Shop' and not order noodles. All of our bowls were amazing so flavorful and yummy. Recommend 10/10 read more
