Got lunch for takeout from this strip mall Chinese place in Mundelein. It doesn't look like much, but it still beat expectations though. New China Chef has all the usual stuff, from beef to tofu and whatever. Big portions help make things a good value for what you get. The prices aren't bad especially on lunch specials. Came in and placed an order to go. It's a pretty cramped place, but there's enough room for a few tables for those eating inside. The atmosphere is pretty lame. About the worst thing that can be said about it. There's two humongous menus on the walls. It's about $12 for the regular size entrees. They also have lunch specials. Has vegetarian choices. I got the Kung Pao Tofu. Good spice to it. The tofu was firm, and there was a good variety of vegetables including broccoli, corn, and more. For lunch it's pretty good. It's pretty fast to get most orders. There's a variety of proteins including tofu for vegetarians. read more

We ordered the following: Chicken egg rolls Combo (chicken,shrimp, beef) lo mein Orange chicken Pad woon sen (chicken) The egg roll were basic, fine. The orange chicken was pretty average, nothing to brag about. However this is we're it turned really south, the pad woon sen was absolutely disgusting never tasted something this bad in my life. Now the lo mein tasted in a weird way dry and unflavored. Furthermore upon entry the kitchen space itself looks a little funky (kinda dirty) but I was $50.00 in so I couldn't turn back. If you want delicious Thai food go to green basil. This place doesn't do Chinese or Thai Justice. read more

After repeatedly stating in the notes, "Leave the food outside", this driver completely disregards the notes I left for him. I ordered through GrubHub and mentioned I wanted them to text me that they have arrived. The driver doesn't even do that. Completely disregarded all my messages. Do you not realize we are in a pandemic? My parents are at risk, which is why I said leave the food outside. On top of that, this restaurant was completely unapologetic about the whole situation. Didn't apologize or offer refund or discount for this incident. Just trying to trying to treat my parents to some take out. Not take out with a side of COVID-19 homie! Clearly customer safety isn't a priority for the driver or this restaurant. Now I actually have to worry about my parents possibly having COVID-19 thanks to this place. Thanks for nothing! Ordered twice in two weeks so far. It's my new favorite Chinese/Thai restaurant. First, value: the prices and portions are in line with similar restaurants in the area. Second, the food. We ordered the dumplings appetizer, green curry, panang curry, pad thai, kung pao chicken, basil chicken, and Mongolian beef. Everything was delicious. What I particularly like about their cooking is its rustic nature. The meat and vegetables are in big, chewy, satisfying bites. And portions are humongous. It's a husband and wife team it's always them never anyone else and that consistency is worth mentioning. This food is barely edible. Ordered Bourbon Chicken, and chicken fried rice...absolutely NO flavor and had a rancid Odor to it. Didn't want to get food poisoning, so we decided not to eat it. $40 of wasted food down the drain!!! Ordered online for a 6:45 takeout time..got there at 6:47pm...waited until 7:20pm when the food was FINALLY ready...only one cook and one person working the front...thinking this better be good. Well..a mixed bag..first the good..the General Tso chicken was excellent..the Crab Rangoons were also delicious as well as the pork fried rice..a large container is good for a family of four..my daughter loved the shrimp chop suey. Now for the bad...the meat in the Mongolian Beef for starters....half of it was extremely hard to chew..lots of tendons...the egg rolls were just OK..typical chinese food..If it wasn't Monday, I would go to Hong Kong Chinese instead but they are closed on Mondays..they are always exceptionally good but a little pricier..this place I would have to pass on next time. read more

Ordered the Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice and the Beef Crazy Thai Noodles. Everything was mush and had no flavor. Literally nothing had flavor. Our regular Chinese carry-out restaurant was closed for the 4th of July weekend so we thought we'd try this place. It was not good. We ordered Chicken Kow and it smelled and tasted fishy. The Mongolian Beef was tough and the sauce was soupy and runny. We ended up throwing most of the Kow away and one-half of the Mongolian Beef. Never again. read more

The food in this place is beyond disgusting, no tasty bad quality, I ordered a special fried rice and a chicken eggfuyong the rice 90% rice and grease and the meat was either fake or canned meat not healthy, had the same problem with eggfuyong little of the fake meat and the sauce tasted bad and looked like diarrhea. read more

Tonight's lesson: go with the old standbys. The satay (peanut) chicken was unlike any I'd ever had ...and tasted nothing like peanuts. Or, honestly, chicken. The lo mein had noodles that appeared to have been cooked in several different ways. Some were steamed or boiled, some were pan fried, some were ...I'm not sure what. And everything tasted like nothing. There are far better Chinese places and, though fewer, there are also far better Thai places. Don't come here if you're expecting the best Chinese food in the North suburbs. But if you're hungry at lunchtime and only have 6 bucks to spend, this place will do more than suffice. My friend told me I wouldn't be able to finish the lunch special. With my pride hurt by the lack of faith in my stomach's capacity, I took on the challenge of finishing the lunch special. I finished it with room to spare but I must admit, it was the most food I've ever seen in a Chinese lunch special. The only thing that this place has going for it is that it is close to home. We get their appetizer sampler, pot stickers, and teriyaki chicken about once a month. It is just below average at best. If there was somewhere else closer, we'd never get carry out from here. Yet, nothing horrible has kept us from coming back. Good, fast, cheap. That pretty much sums up this place. As other reviews have noted, it's pretty standard Chinese food. So ordinarily, I'd give it an average rating of 3 stars. However, the prices are cheaper than other Chinese places and the portions are larger. The first time I ordered lunch there, I couldn't believe how much food they gave me and how the carryout bag felt heavier than usual. I thought it was a mistake or it was because I was a first time customer. But nope, that's just normal for them and for this reason, I gave them 1 extra star. This place has good food! I always try something different when I order here, the woman that answers the phone is always super sweet and the food is ready very quick. They honor coupons that are on their menu even if you "misplaced" it. They also deliver. Not sure what the other reviewers palate is used to, but I really like this place.
