The food was absolutely delicious seriously my taste buds were happy. The sesame chicken for example, was a real winner fantastic flavor and that sauce was on point and it came with a lovely white rice bowl. The Kung Pao chicken was also super tasty if you like a bit of a kick you might want to ask for some extra spice next time. We also really enjoyed the shrimp fried rice and those yummy egg rolls you get two per order. Just a heads up though the portions for dine in felt a tad on the smaller side especially for the sesame chicken. On the service front it was a bit hit or miss. We found ourselves with empty drink glasses for quite a while and it seemed like the staff mainly came by to take our order and drop off the food. However, there was a really sweet young kid at the register who was super helpful and friendly he definitely brightened things up. Finding the place can be a bit of an adventure. It's tucked away in a cozy corner right next to the grocery store so you really only spot it once you've parked. Oh and a quick tip make sure you don't mix it up with the Korean restaurant nearby. A couple of minor bummer moments the chicken lo mein wasn't quite what we hoped for. The noodles were super thin and crunchy rather than the thicker, chewier kind we expected and sadly they were out of egg drop soup that day which was a shame. We were so happy to see the lunch and dinner specials on the back of the menu. Sunday is all day dinner, so we were happy to be able to get this special pricing. My husband ordered the BBQ Pork Lo Mein, and picked Wonton for his small soup. I picked the Chicken Chop Suey, Hot and Sour Soup. They also included a (huge) veggie egg roll and hot tea which was great! The portion size was a lot larger than what I was expecting... Which is awesome! I decided to give this place another try after about a long time since I've been there. I decided to try delivery after working another ten hour day. After spending around sixty-five dollars and an hour later I decided to track my order to learn it said delivered. I check front & back just incase I did miss the driver. I called the restaurant was told a driver pick up food and I would have to call (Beyond Menu) to find out what happened. I was pissed. Girl said she would call me back and after ten minutes I called back she told I still need to call them. Beyond Menu called me and gave me options to reorder or get a credit I chose credit but will receive an email from them and a 24 hr wait. (Luckily it didn't take too long to get credit) I call ed NGD trying to speak with the manager. (Same girl try to pretend she was her) She was rude and told me to go ahead do my yelp review. (I will try the next day before they open to express my opinion. So lessons learn don't do delivery with them. New Golden Dragon sits in the corner of a strip mall adjacent to a grocery store. The restaurant is take out only now, only allowing one person in the lobby at a time for pickups. The egg rolls were standard, good enough, and would repeat. Chow fun noodles were dry, and a little overcooked. Egg drop soup was good. Egg Foo Young was solid, not the best, not the worst. When asked them to make this dish spicy, they didn't seem to think it was possible. It is. That wasn't a good sign, but the dish was good enough to be your $7 lunch special in a pinch. Moo shu chicken was surprisingly good. Not a dish I usually go for but it was rather tasty and reheated well. In summary, this is serviceable, Americanized, Chinese food. Horrible experience! Ordered two entrees to share, Pad Thai (just fair) and Orange Chicken. The Orange chicken was hard to cut into and numerous pieces had no chicken at all. Explained this to our waitress, who let and another woman, whom I assume is the owner came over. I repeatedly tried to explain the issue of no chicken and she just kept saying how much everyone likes this dish, about how long she's been in business there etc. Then she proceeded to take the plate of odd and took a fork and started breaking up the pieces to show me the chicken in those pieces. Then had the nerve to think she was going to give it back to me to eat! She then kept asking what I wanted here to do with the food and threw it in the garbage! When I asked where my food was, the waitress said she threw it away. I said I was not going to pay for something I didn't have. The owner/manager said she was not able to make any more and would give a discount ($5.00 on a $16.00 item I didn't get). Had I been paying, I never would have let them get away with that. A basic looking and tasting Chinese restaurant is in Buffalo Grove. It certainly isn't anything special but it's reliable. New Golden Dragon is one of the many Americanized Chinese restaurants in the strip malls you can find with many of the same favorites you can get at these. Fairly good prices. They also have a list of lunch specials. I picked something here up for lunch. Quite a few people were here to pick up their orders and there were a few others dining inside which has plenty of tables. The worker at the front was also taking calls so placing an order was a little bit of a wait. Had time to look at the menu. They have quite a few of cheaper lunch specials. I had the Vegetable Delight. It's $8.59 for vegetables and rice. Then I added is a couple extra bucks for tofu. Still okay prices and came out fast. The tofu was kind of bad and mushy. Certainly it's not at all bad. It's mostly kind of above average in the quality. There's much better places than here but this will do for a quick meal though. read more

New Golden Dragon is one of our favorite places to order Chinese take out. The food is prepared fresh and quickly. When we pick up there, there always seems to be a line of folks waiting to do just that as well! New Golden Dragon is located in a plaza right by the Garden Fresh Market. Be mindful that it is located a few shops down from Golden Durebak which serves Korean food. They do get a little mad when you walk in but looking for New Golden Dragon, haha. Must happen often! We love the combination fried rice, the salt and paper Japanese tofu, and their beef chow fun. All of which are large portions for the prices. The combination fried rice has full size shrimp, chicken and beef while most places in the area make it pretty salty, New Golden Dragons is delicious! The Salt and Pepper Japanese Tofu is one of my favorites to try anywhere. Some places don't often make it right where they overcook it but it should be crispy on the outside and just enough soft on the inside for the full effect. All in all, we love to order take out here but will have to dine in one of these days. They are usually pretty short staffed and recommend carry out if we don't have the time to wait for a meal. read more

New Golden Dragon is not worth your time. The service is terrible. They are not flexible whatsoever and don't seem to understand that a good Chinese menu provides choices. We tried to order as we usually do (we have been going here for years) and they said that we changed the dinner for six too much and they had no staff so we couldn't order customize anything. Their understaffing isn't the customers problem but this establishment doesn't have the bandwidth to accommodate apparently. Took my daughter and her kids to New Golden Dragon yesterday to introduce them to Chinese culture. we were seated immediately. water was served at the table. The waitress was not friendly. she was saying something about "no lunch specials. no lunch specials. only dinner on Sundays. ok so we paid more per plate at noontime we ordered 3 dinner plates with one to be shared between the two kids. I have been to the restaurant many times and have loved the food. We never were served any tea?? i always was served a pot of tea?? then our meal came and would have been nice if she would have brought an extra plate for the kids but we made do. we didnt have enough silerware?? No knife was given so I asked for one since the tomato and green pepper were big pieces which I always cut smaller. The waitress acted put out cuz i asked for a knife. The real kicker was when the bill came with fortune cookies the kids were si excited and they liked the cookie. my grand daughter asked me if she could have another cookie. i told her to ask the waitress. the waitress said No!!! I reviewed this 9 years ago. But I've always went to other Chinese places over this over time. But lately my favorites have been closing or replaced with owners making their place worse. Been here a couple times in the last month. I will just start and say customer service for takeout can be better. First time I came in this month I was asked for my phone number. I told her I wanted to place an order. Her reply was that it'll take 25 minutes and do I still want to order. Haha The second time for the lunch special I gave her the lunch special number I wanted and she said that they don't do numbers. So the numbers on their menu don't mean anything. As for the food, it's not bad. Not amazing. Fried rice is bland. The best part is their lunch specials are a TON of food for about 10 bucks. Entree, fried rice, egg roll, AND soup. Our first Chinese take out since the pandemic! I ordered our food online before they the restaurant open! It was a pretty easy! I ordered Cantonese Chicken Chow Mein $9.95 (large) and House Chow Fun $8.25 (small). They both were pretty tasty! The small order was really small, so I think next time I will have to order a large! The Cantonese chow Mein came in a separate container which was good, the noodles stayed crsipy! Picking up the food was pretty easy too, need to wear face masks and only one person is allowed in the restaurant at a time, they blocked off the front door to the dining room with a huge table and there's a doorbell there for you to ring when you arrive! It was a very speedy service and will definitely go and order other items! They ONLY do take outs and delivery at this time! read more

Was there today and was shocked when the server asked me if I wanted water or hot tea. When I said both, she informed me that I had to pick one or the other. Really??? She said they are changing things around. I get that, and I didn't mind too much that there were no more crunchy noodles served with the soup. But if you get tea you can't have a glass of water? Shocking and just a bad look for a business. Their cost savings on not providing water probably don't amount to $10 a year. However, the negative impression on their customers far outweigh the cost savings. The other diners who came in behind me were equally as stumped. This restaurant has gone through a few phases. For a while it was great then it went terrible. Now it's changed hands again and is back to being a solid fast serve Chinese restaurant. You have to walk in expecting fast serve because if you walk in expecting gourmet at these relatively inexpensive prices then you might be underwhelmed. Inside the restaurant is pretty usual decor, nothing astonishing to note. Their tables are solid and there's plenty of seating room to accommodate people and keep people spaced. Problem is our dinner got ruined by a uncontrolled child running about the restaurant, luckily it was at the end of our meal. Service staff were impeccable in their job performance. I would definitely dine here again, sans running child ruining the end of meal. read more

New Golden Dragon opened a mile from our house a few years ago and has been our go to for Chinese ever since. It has great food and very reasonable prices. We have ordered take out and have eaten in the restaurant and have had the same quality experience every time. On this trip we went to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. We went in and were seated immediately. As we were there several more groups came in but it never felt crowded. We started off with the appetizer sampler platter. This included two egg rolls, two BBQ ribs, two teriyaki chicken, two fried shrimp, two crab rangoon, and four BBQ pork. This could have been enough for the whole meal itself but we also ordered entrees. We ordered mussels, honey walnut shrimp (my favorite item on the menu), beef chow fun, sesame beef, and moo shu pork. Everything came out great. I love how they can cook a variety of food in a variety of different cooking methods and have everything come out well. This was more food than we could eat, which leads to my favorite part of Chinese food - leftovers! The meal ended with almond cookies and fortune cookies. This was a very enjoyable experience and I highly recommend New Golden Dragon for excellent Chinese food. read more

Wow, what a small place. But, the food and service make it worth the trip. Was in town for some indoor kart racing. Had a taste for chinese and this place didn't disappoint. Service staff was excellent. Food came out fast and was steaming hot all the way to the table. I can't believe the sheer amount of stuff they give you included with your dinner. Hot tea, free. Crispy noodle appetizer, free. Vegetable egg roll, free. Egg drop soup, free. I had the bbq pork egg foo young and it was really good. Definitely will be back for more tasting. read more

Half of the Egg drop soup was RAW And I didn't know it until after I had a few spoonfuls and realized the texture and taste was off....I didn't notice at first when I scooped it into bowls. Afterwards, I checked it and saw many raw pieces. Vegetable egg foo young had NO FLAVOR and tasted funny after a few bites...... House egg foo young also tasted funny after a few bites...... New Golden Dragon fits in an odd spot between recommending and not recommending. On the plus side, the prices are extremely low, the portion sizes are huge, there are lunch specials everyday, the rice is moist and fluffy, the service is friendly, there are a good number of choices available on the menu, and the food probably isn't super unhealthy. On the bad side, the decor is sufficient -- the restaurant itself looks a bit outdated, the items are a bit on the bland side with a minimum amount of care put into textures and flavor combinations, and you can't park right outside the restaurant. With that said, the prices and portion sizes here are simply too low to not have this on a list of fast-food alternatives (lunch specials are in fact cheaper than many value meals you can get elsewhere). While I wasn't particularly impressed with any items, the cooking definitely shows evidence of healthier, fresh home cooking -- which outperforms the price. The product does taste better and is a lot less gravy laden than restaurants that charge substantially more. They're also willing to customize their cooking to individual preferences -- despite the extremely low price. Overall, it's worth a visit if you live in the area and want something a little more simple and like homestyle comfort food. You'll get a very filling meal for an unbelievable price. read more

This place used to be on my go-to list. Not anymore... The service is relatively fast, but the lack of English speaking phone help doesn't make ordering fast or easy. The food is the main problem. Over the last year or so, the food quality has taken a big hit. The taste, texture and flavor has really suffered. The veggies seem to be canned, not fresh and everything kind of seems soggy instead of crisp. There is also a severe lack of seasoning. When I order a Kung Pao dish, I expect heat. I didn't even get one pepper in my large combination... This is really a shame because they used to much better. Coming out of a pandemic shutdown, this somewhat hidden storefront has remodeled the dining area and enhanced the service somewhat. The downside is that prices have increased about 25% since the spring of 2021. This makes it less of that bargain than it once was, and it is now about the same level as area competitors. There is only the "large" size portion of entrees available in the dining area, so don't over order unless you want to take home leftovers. Some favorites, the kung pao beef, shrimp Egg Foo Yung, the marvelous soups, especially the House Noodle Soup (as an entre). read more

The owners are blatantly DECEIVING customers. Last Oct 30, we ordered for pickup from the menu attached to Yelp. When picking up and reviewing the receipt after I paid, we noticed that they overcharged for two of the items: Large Vegetable Egg Foo Yong listed at $4.95, charged $7.95; Large Mongolian Beef listed at $9.55, charged $13.65. When I questioned the difference, they showed me a printed menu and indicated that the prices on line were different because it wasn't their website. I tried to give them the chance to make it right, yet they ultimately refused to refund the overcharge.
