We ended up here after our original destination closed unexpectedly, and I'm so glad they did. Until now, I hadn't found a Chinese restaurant in the area that I felt was worth the trip. They have all the classic options, generous portions, fair pricing, and delicious food. The takeaway bag was so heavy that it felt like it was full of bricks. Only downside, there's not much seating. Technically, they said online that they had dine-in, but it was just a few tables in a tiny (very cold) room. We ended up taking the food back home. What others have said about the spice was true, it wasn't all that hot so next time I'd ask for extra spice. Get the crab ragoons! read more

I am an Executive Chef and my wife grew up in Asia. It is so hard to find authentic Asian places. This place makes food just like you would eat around Hong Kong, Canton, or the Szechuan Province. I changed up from my normal Mongolian Beef made "spicy" to try something new. The Szechuan Shrimp dish was amongst the best Chinese take out meals I have ever had! I asked them to substitute noodles instead of rice, and they did so at no added cost. There was plenty left over for my lunch the next day, and it was simply delicious. I will definitely order it again, and we always get a couple of shrimp egg rolls to accompany our meals. They are great as well! read more

Honest rating is a 2.5/5. Restaurant was clean and employees was nice. I order chicken egg rolls that were bland and chicken had a weird texture and no flavor. Chicken fried rice was bland but rice was cooked well. Veggie lo-mein was probably the best tasting item I received just dry 8/10. Bourbon chicken was dry and needed more sauce. Crab Rangoon flavor was average and needed to be fried longer. Egg drop soup tasted like flavored water. I'm not here to bash anyones business but I wouldn't recommend this place unless things changed. read more

Typical fast Chinese you can find anywhere, better than most places in the area. Very large portions and that seems to be what the customers want. If it was bad I would rate it lower same with better. I asked for extra spicy and got no spice. I moved to the area not too long ago and was looking for a Chinese restaurant. I found one on the south side of Grand Haven that I wasn't impressed with, so I started looking for another one and came across New China City. I'm certainly glad that I did. Located in a strip mall behind the Walgreens, New China City is just a few blocks from my home. It's never really crowded when I go in, but there is a decent amount of carry out orders that people come in and grab. I've ordered twice now, and both times it has been "about 10 minutes" for my order. When I've stopped in, it's been ready. Both times I've ordered I've gotten the same thing for my entree: Kung Pao Chicken combo. The first time I did an order of Crab Rangoon and the second time I did a Hot and Sour Soup. I liked both the Crab Rangoon and the Soup, but I think I liked the soup a tad better. There were so many Rangoons that half of them went to waste because I couldn't eat them plus my meal. My entree has been perfect both times. Very happy and the reason I've ordered it twice and will certainly order again. I've only done carryout here.. the seating area is fairly small. They offer a lunchtime buffet, but I'm honestly not quite sure where people sit if they come in for it. Skip the other carryout chinese places in town and just come here. You'll save yourself some money and end up with a much better meal. read more

REAL BAD! I searched "Chinese food near me" and picked the one with the highest ratings and hoped for the best. I was sadly disappointed. My Kung Pao chicken was SMOKY! Like it smelled and tasted like someone had poured that smoke flavor used in fancy cocktails all over it. Kung Pao chicken is my very favorite dish and I get it literally every time I order Chinese food and this was, by far, the worst I've ever had in my entire life. It was inedible. I took a couple of bites and the rest went right in the trash. My husband and son didn't want to touch it either. Husband's chicken fried rice was super bland. Crab Rangoon was greasy and just bad. I would honestly give 1 star but since other customers have had such different experiences, I'm giving it an extra star in case I just showed up on a bad day or something. Every Friday my office gets a free lunch (courtesy of our boss) and this week we decided to try New China City. It was very good Chinese food and the portions were huge. We have about 20 employees where I work and our budget is around $120. We spent about that today on numerous party platters and let's just say we will be eating Chinese food all next week! Gotta hand it to this place, they're really good. Kids and I went in for an early bird dinner (5:40pm). Menu is extensive. We were ordering random things and the guy helping us said we should just get the combo meal instead of how we were ordering. Which by the way was really nice. If we ordered the way we did the mean would have been twice as much. But the guy was real helpful and fair, which I completely respect and appreciate. He also traded our free liter of soda that came With the meal for 3 bottles water because he said it came out to the same price. Not all businesses are like that. What an honest place this is. And boy is their food amazing. Right amount of sauce; some places drown their food in sauce to hide the fact that there is no taste, not here. Food was soooo good. And plentiful too. Our combo meals were huge, we couldn't even finish them. VERY clean inside too. Well maintained. Very nice people. So if you are looking for good food, and honest place that won't screw you on price, this is the place to eat. My 2 kids and I are a huge meal for $22. Very reasonable and totally worth it. The food was all delicious. We ordered three combos, orange chicken, chicken cashew and shrimp foo young, all above average flavor and all freshly made to order. We also got egg drop soup, steamed dumplings, crab Rangoon and vegetable Lo mein. Not a bad item in our order. Our total was less than $50 and there was a lot of food! I always get the combo meals that come with rice and rolls. An excellent amount of food for a great price--I always have enough for left overs the next day.
