Wow this place is a hidden gem! The portions are very generous and the prices are very fair. This is just a short drive from Rockford over to Sparta . Sparta is a little hidden gem. This is a little bit hard to find this location it is in a strip mall to the right of the family fare grocery store. It is hidden with not a lot of signage but it is there in the strip mall to the right. I would say that the only downfall of this place was that it did not take American Express. If you want to be a restaurant you should take American Express. We had the pork dumplings and two eggrolls which they say are homemade. They were both very good and then the chicken special which was really just sweet-and-sour chicken but a very generous portion of it with some extra veggies. My girlfriend had some Thai chicken noodles that she said were not very flavorful. Perhaps they weren't Thai spice but rather were moo goo gai pan. I grew up eating here with my family because it was always the closest Chinese restaurant to our home. I recently moved back to Sparta and was excited to come back, but unfortunately the food just isn't what I remember. The staff have always been incredibly kind and welcoming, customer service has never been the issue, and that's still true today. Everyone has always been friendly, which is one of the reasons we kept coming back over the years. Unfortunately, the food quality the last two times I've been has been really disappointing and doesn't compare to how it used to be. I spent around $40 on this visit, and both meals were lacking sauce. The chicken was somehow both dry and fatty, and the rice was overcooked and slightly mushy. I ordered a combination platter and asked to substitute fried rice, which they've done for my family many times in the past. Instead, I received a regular entrée, so I didn't get the egg roll that comes with the combination platter. I also ordered a small egg drop soup but was given a large container, and the soup itself was so thick that neither of us could enjoy it. I'm honestly disappointed because I remember this place being much better. I don't mind paying $40 for a good meal, but this wasn't one. Unless you're a local who doesn't want to make the 20-minute drive down Alpine, I'd recommend making the drive instead. Even Empire Buffet has been more consistent in my experience. I hate leaving reviews like this because I've always had positive interactions with the staff, but the food quality just isn't comparable to what it was years ago. Only Chinese food place in town and I wanted some on Christmas. Crab Rangoon is really good, as several people have mentioned. I also got the sesame chicken - you get A LOT, enough for several meals. The white rice that comes with it is very good. Only giving 4 stars instead of 5 because it didn't have a wow factor - was pretty standard Chinese food, with the crab Rangoon a little better than other places I've dined. Just finished our take out meal from this nice spot. The General Tso's chicken is BUMPIN'! So many other places attempt to have some spice but end up whiling away in mediocrity. This joint brings the boom boom pow to your tastebuds. My mouth is still tingling and I'm ABOUT IT. The customer service was all business as I fished for a few smiles upon eye contact. Hints of smiles were detected and all in all I got my food correctly and efficiently. Job well done. My wife and daughter also loved their food as a good first foray into Chinese food for the two year old. Only room for improvement was the roll - but the chicken made it all worth while. Since moving to the Sparta area, we have ordered from New Dragon multiple times. We often find ourselves in a pinch for a quick dinner and not many take out options in this neck of the woods. New Dragon never disappoints. Always very good and always very quick! We have never had a bad meal. We order larges of their dishes and are happy to put half in the fridge for another meal. Favorites are: Cashew Chicken, Chicken with mixed veggies, Mongolian Beef (if you like onions!), and the crab rangoon! You always need a go-to Chinese take out place, and this is ours! read more

The food is great. The service is good and you don't have to wait super long for the food to be ready. It's always a 15 minute wait and that's perfect for the drive there depending on how far you live. The crab Rangoon is delicious and the rice is perfect every time. From the road a simple store front in a strip-mall. A genuine mom and pop shop. Entrance and service counter clean, only limited seating available. Family run, in the evenings with their older children ...actually friendly :) ...aiding at the counter, running the cash/credit machines as well as answering phone orders. All veggies are crisp and fresh, food hand-made. I often order shrimp with mixed vegetables, my favorite. The egg rolls are the best, haven't tried the other appetizers. Food always served hot, general wait time is about 15 minutes. Not much else to say but check this place out next time you're in Sparta MI, you'll not be disappointed. read more
