We ordered Sesame Chicken, which ended up being glorified chicken nuggets sitting next to a yellow sauce that tasted like melted plastic. We also ordered fried rice that was flavorless, chicken lo mein with extremely dry chicken, and crab rangoons that didn't taste right. We had high hopes given the 4 star rating this restaurant had, but you will mostly definitely want to look elsewhere for a Chinese meal. read more

Not worth the money spent. The broccoli beef tasted like salisbury steak with no carrots in it. The crab rangoons were lacking in flavor. We ordered general chicken that looked like popcorn chicken with way too much spicy sauce no vegetables. Very boring. To me it was the most American makeover of Chinese food I have ever had. Lovely food, just like my grandmother used to make. Or even better - just as good as I remember my grandmother making. Los of Chinese take-out tastes of corn starch because so much has been used to thicken the sauces to Western standards. It's an f-putting taste that can ruin the meal. Family Kitchen skips all that thickener and keeps the delicious flavor. My father says he may need to move to Muskegon just to eat this food. I especially love the ginger beef. read more

I sure hope more people discover this restaurant. They need to be a lot busier, and there's no reason they shouldn't be. Their location isn't helping any, since it's a depressed, almost empty plaza (where Plumb's used to be), and it's easy to not realize there's actually something worthwhile there as you drive past. The restaurant itself is kind of depressing too. Their aquarium with fish in it is shameful. If fish could be suicidal, I'd imagine these would be. But since there's absolutely nothing in the tank but fish and water, there's nothing there they could kill themselves with anyway, so their sad lives go on. Sigh. But having gotten that off my chest, OMG the food here is fantastic! I have been to every Chinese restaurant in Muskegon and they range from moderately-kind-of-OK to just plain bad. A few can just barely scratch the itch of a Chinese food craving, but generally I've just ignored the itch until it went away, rather than eat at any of them. Family Kitchen was the last place I tried, since it was the only one left I hadn't been to and it's kind of inconvenient for me. And I truly had low hopes at this point. My first time there, the food was AMAZING. And the second time. And the third time, and every time after that. I am now a huge fan of this place, despite their sad fish tank. And they're the only place in town that does egg foo young well. Really well. If you can see past the counter help who seem to have no idea what any of the food actually is, I highly recommend Family Kitchen to anyone who wants to eat decent Chinese food for a change. This restaurant is amazing! This seems to be family owned and they do an amazing job! From appetizers to entrees the food is delicious! The prices are so reasonable and the portions are very filling! The only problem with this restaurant is the location! It's one of two businesses that are open in this plaza, but it is worth the trip! Keep up the good work! Can't wait until you reopen! read more

I've been a customer since they opened. The foood is good, quality ingredients and generously portioned. However today I order th3 spareribs Chef's Special for th first time. Terrible! These are actually rib tips, not spare ribs and mostly bone and gristle. Very disappointing! They should offer actual spareribes or emove these items from their menu. Family Kitchen is in the old plumbs strip mall on Sherman Ave..... the building isn't much to look at but the food is excellent. We like the sweet& sour chicken , cashew chicken and the egg rolls.... they could use some polish on the delivery people but the food is worth it... read more

Had a friend surprise us with chinese food from this restaurant today. wasted money again. finding hair in the vegetable egg foo young, which was way over cooked and greasy, another dinner thrown in the garbage. not to mention the salty chicken noodle soup, down the drain. Then he had to wait over 40 minutes for 2 orders. This is unacceptable. read more

First time there because a friend recommended and will not be returning. Fried rice tasted burnt, s&s chicken was dry and over cooked. Lo mien was saggy and had no favor. Only decent item was the crab ragoon. read more
