Ten years ago this was my favorite American Chinese food restaurant. Those owners took pride in their work and remembered everyone. Since, it has changed hands and the recipes and quality has gone down hill. It is still edible and decent for the area. I will eat there from time to time but it saddens me every time remembering what the food once was. The General Tso's use to be the best around. It had a deeper flavor to it making it more complex. It also had more spice. Now, if you ask for extra spicy, it still has very little to no spice and it is a brighter more simple and one dimensional flavor. They have good deals for lunch if you want to fill your belly with okay food for a decent price. I would have given this restaurant 5 stars 10 years ago. This is your typical "cheap chinese" restaurant that you come across in about every town across the US. You know the one.. the one with the pens stuck in a plastic tub of rice next to the counter.. the stack of paper menus at the counter that has the same thing on it you've seen at other places. They're usually named something with an "Express" or a "King" in the title, and you never eat there. Anyone who is inside sitting at a table is waiting on their carryout. I grabbed take out from Dragon Express last week. Crab Rangoons and the Kung Bo chicken combo was my order, and it came with enough food for my dinner plus lunch the next day. On par with every other type of inexpensive Chinese restaurant across the US.. I got what I wanted, paid about what I expected to pay and sat happily on my couch in a food coma. read more

Great place to eat, we eat here about every other week. Pork fried rice is very good, and we really like the sesame chicken dinner. The crabmeat rangoons are the absolute best ever! I was a little taken aback by Dragon Express because I was not a local and they make thier food a little different than the Chinese takout I'm used to. I ordered the Hunan Chicken combo for my entree which was very tasty a good balance of vegetables and chicken but not at all spicy as specified so that was disappointing, and the egg roll that came with my meal was nothing but shredded cabbage which was dry. The house fried rice is a bright yellow rice that was tasty with a little of everything in it but nothing special. The crab rangoon is made with a melting mozzarella cheese which is something I've never had before because I've always had crab rangoon made with cream cheese and those were pretty greasy. read more

We ate there tonight for the first time, and absolutely loved everything! The crab Rangoon was yummy. My hubby and I shared the General Tsao chicken and the chicken with cashews. Both were delicious. Tonight I ventured to a new chinese takeout. It does have a dine in area bigger than most in this area. I ordered the General Tso's combo platter that comes with fried rice and pork egg roll. It was nice sized (enough for two meals). My partner ordered the quart sweet and sour chicken with white rice and with 1 extra sweet and sour sauce and 1shrimp egg roll. This was very affordable at under $22. The egg rolls were better than most places ive tried around here. The General Tso's meal was good. (not great). The Sweet and Sour Chicken was better than good. read more

I have been eating at dragon express since I was a little girl. I loved it then and continue now. Their ragoons. Oh how I dreamed of them when I moved away. I would order them by the dozens and freeze them. Thaw at my home across the country and reheat. That's how much of a fan I am. I knew I had to visit MI when my stock got low. No other ragoons country wide could ever compare! Trust me I looked from coast to coast in my moves. Now that I have moved back I am a frequent diner. They greet me by name. And remember my preferences. They are excellent at helping you choose and even deal with a little nitpicking if there is something you don't want in your dish. Or are allergic to. Sunny people who make world class food!!! The only problem is I can't seem to go there without spending 40 bucks on a wide range of things my family will eat for the weekend! read more

While there are a few Chinese take out places around Grand Haven, this one is slightly better than the others most of the time. The order taker is super nice. The food is ok, but dont expect anything with flavor or spice. Its a shame. Unfortunately I have ordered a number of times and specifically asked for things like NO VEGETABLES (like with the appetizer "boneless spare ribs", WHO PUTS BROCCOLI under a bunch of so called ribs) or ask to make sure no broccoli ends up in a dish like Orange Chicken only to find when I get home they just dont listen or care. If a customer goes out of their way to make sure you dont put something in a dish and you agree and then just do whatever you want, it shows you dont really want repeat customers. This isn't very good food. It's very chain like, but with cheaper standards for quality. In their defense, we only went once. My wife got hot and sour soup which was the consistency of snot. We had to throw it out. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, to which I received what looked to be deep fried Sams Club chicken in a small portion. I guess I'm jaded by Ingcredibles in Lansing Michigan, but cheap Chinese food should taste better. I don't know why I keep expecting to find decent Chinese food in West Michigan but for some reason I keep trying. My wife and I were in the mood for some Chinese and decided to give this place a try. Woman that took our order was very friendly and they had the kitchen in open view of the customers, which was good. We played it safe by only ordering vegetable fried rice and some egg rolls. Order came up pretty quick which made me immediately think they had everything pre-cooked and ready to box up - damn, here we go again. Egg rolls were very greasy on the outside and no flavor on the inside. Fried rice was even worse - clearly made from a frozen pre-mix (you can always tell when it has peas and carrot cubes in it). Rice was under-cooked, bland, and the already horrendous peas and carrots were colder than the rice. Their version of vegetable fried rice is taking this awful frozen mixture and throwing it in a wok with some onions and mushrooms (those were at least real, albeit overcooked). Is it really that hard to cook fresh food? I really don't think so. If you're going to continue to serve frozen, pre-processed crap to your customers, I guarantee you will see less and less of them coming through your doors. Food quality is everything. We obviously won't be returning to Dragon Express. read more

Best place to get noodles, I love their house special lo mein. They also make really great & flavorful crab rangoon. The front lady who is usually there is a sweet heart & during lunch they have a mini buffet by the register which you can order from & get to go almost immediately besides waiting in line. I sent in an online order for which I received confirmation, when arriving the food was not ready and they stated they did not have the order. I was told 5 minutes and it would be ready, so I waited..... at least 15 minutes.... and it had to be 100 degrees in there. Excellent food. I have ordered so many different items that I cannot name them all here. The Kung Bo Chicken is superb. It is spicy but if you want it more spicy, just ask. You can also get a side of their spicy sauce to put on at your own discretion, but you have to ask. The Garlic Beef is also very good. The combination platters are a good value--more than I can eat in one sitting. The Wonton soup and Shrimp Egg Rolls are delicious appetizers. I never eat inside because it is so small. I call my order in and it's ready in about 15 minutes--always fresh and hot. Very friendly service too. read more

We have a good sized party scheduled in our home in about a month so we decided to go check out some local Chinese food places. Reading some of the reviews we thought this place could have some potential...or not. We ordered 8 dishes plus rangoons and egg rolls to go. Four of us sampled most of the dishes. I had a ton of leftovers the next morning and even re-evaluated all of the dishes a second time. The spicy dish we ordered (tso chicken) had no spice in it at all. Did they forget to add the heat or are all of the 'spicy' dishes like this? Visually I see little speckles of red something-or-other on it, but it has no heat to it at all. The Mongolian beef was also made without flavor. With so many onions cooked in it (white, not green onions) I wondered how they could have cooked all of the flavor out of it. Seriously, it didn't even have an onion flavor and onions were half of the dish. The other dishes we sampled all followed suit (beef w mushroom, veggie lo mein, sweet/sour chicken, etc). Slightly different tastes, but not much taste to speak of. I've concluded, after my 2nd leftover sampling, if all of these 8 dishes were added together the look and taste of the whole mixture would not be much different than any of the individual dishes (I'm not joking here, very little variations in any of the ingredients in all of the dishes). The rangoons had a good crab flavor to them, but not a lot of creamy filling. The egg rolls were mostly cabbage and I had a hard time finding any pork in them. Even adding some sweet sauce to them didn't make them much better, and even the sweet/sour sauce was sort of bland. We'll continue to look around to find a place to supply our party. If this is the 'best Chinese food in town' then we'll have to try another town. read more
