Chinese take out is either a hit or miss. I found this place which happened to be nearby where I was at the time. It's in a strip mall where parking can be a little bit of a trek. The place itself it's not that big. There's a few tables for dine in and the counter where the food is on display right in-front. They offer combos meals as well as à la carte items. First off, I don't want to say it but the lady behind the counter was somewhat rude and a little bitchy. I don't know if that's just the way she is or she was having a bad day. I wasn't ready as I was trying to read the menu on the board and that's when the attitude came out. There were others that were ahead of me and after me which I was very ok with them going infront as I was still debating on what I wanted. Like most Chinese fast food take out, the items are in trays where you see them behind the counter. They had a good selections but some didn't look that appealing. Combos were the hit as it seemed like that's what everyone was going for. I ended picking up three of the two items combos and an order of the chow mein à la carte. Even then she was rude when I was ordering. Anyway, the food was ok. Nothing wow to rave about. It's fast food Chinese take out. They did put a lot of the sauces with the to go which was a plus. Lady was rude to us, we ordered a combo and she was meant to give us a drink but because we asked for a cup of water she refused to give it to us and then she told us our waters were free and she kept of repeating that over and over again. Shrimp fried rice was pretty good tho. read more

This place is a hidden gem. If you're looking for a review to help you decided if you should order from this place - this is it! The food is incredible and you can't beat these prices! I got the chicken teriyaki and it's was very juicy and flavorful. The fried rice and chow mein were also very good. A small drink was included with my entree. All for $10. While waiting in line, the chef was bringing out new trays of fresh food. Nothing looked like it was sitting for too long and didn't look greasy or bland. The flavor was underwhelming. Kung pao: 1/5. Although it did contain chiles, there was no spice to the dish. It was almost sweet. It was quite heavy on the celery, about as much celery as there was chicken, so it really overpowered the dish. It was not what I would have expected when ordering a spicy chicken dish. Spicy pork rib: 0/5. This one I couldn't eat. The meat was exceptionally dry and flavorless. There was a little juice at the bottom that I tried pouring over the rib to help but it was really just excess broth. The rib itself had very little meat, mostly bone. Fried rice: 1/5. My old middle school next to the plaza and I've went here, pretty good food clean and very kind lady just that food is a little overpriced but over all good. I get half and half with chicken drums as well with teriyaki. Everyone has their "spot" for Chinese. Some people go as far as Compton, or Downey, to get their Chinese fix because they've grown on that chow mein. Well, my spot, is here. Every once in a while my father would bring us here to get our fix of chow mein and teriyaki chicken, and I still find myself looking through the same glass, at the same lady, packing the same chow mein in the same white box years later. But now my usual combo is only chow mein and teriyaki chicken. They have steamed rice as a "healthy" alternative to fried rice. I love their egg rolls. And it's great that you get either an egg roll or a small soda for free with any combo! I have been going to New China Express since I moved to Long Beach 7 years ago it's my favorite Chinese food place to go every time I walked in we always get greeted by the same young lady that works behind she says hi my friends good to see you again how you been she's so cute I love her the food is always hot and fresh and when they're low on something they let you know so they can make you fresh food it's a little old school but that's what makes it nostalgic I always make sure that I give them a good tip because they work hard there and they're in a shopping center that has minimal parking a lot of homeless people and the parking spaces are meant for less than a compact car it's crazy but it's worth the experience she deals with it all by herself even when she has a long line and she does the best job she can she's an amazing lady best food my favorite this year has been the sweet and sour chicken and the sweet and sour pork amazing read more

My advise is to skip this place all together, go to subway next door or a near by liquor store to get a bag of chips and a soda. Loved the shrimp fried rice & the shrimp chop suey was delicious except it was missing bean sprouts and I thought I'd get steamed rice with it, like everywhere else.
