Ordered takeout. Moderate prices and decent food. We ordered Chow Mein and Mongolian Chicken. The noodles were fine but the chicken was just okay, quite bland.

Classic Mandarin Cuisine at its finest. Chen's is a time capsule of Chinese Take-Out with a dash of fine dining. We arrived at the peak of lunch hour on Friday and the service and ambiance was nothing short of spectacular! Everything ordered was delicious! I cannot wait to comeback. Thank you Chen's!

I've gone to Chen's twice and the food and experience has been amazing. If you're looking for a place that has good Chinese food - not like a strip mall type of Chinese food - pull up at Chen's. The staff is also super friendly and always willing to give recommendations! 10/10 def recommend Ang will be back.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression! This was my first and last time dining here. I can't comment on the quality of the food, because we didn't even get that far in our dining experience. My family and I arrived and it took at least 15 minutes to be greeted and have our drink order taken. My son ordered orange juice and I ordered a Thai tea no boba. I had to send his drink back because it was not orange juice, it was Sunny Delight. My Thai tea had boba, so I sent it back. When the waitress returned with the new one, she "tripped" and spilled it all over me. She offered a half hearted apology.

The food was delicious. Great servers and staff. Will be back soon! My favorite was the combination lo mein and honey walnut shrimp

We had an event here and it was my first time ever eating here. The rest is clean and seems bigger than I'd imagined. Staff was trying their best given how many people were there. Though they should have had coverage knowing we had booked it months in advance. Took them awhile to take drink orders and getting the glasses out for guests. The food was your typical Chinese restaurant. Super greasy and not a whole lot of flavors n my opinion. Hopefully they can re examine their menu a bit and the flavors as they were lacking. The pork was dry and noodles were greasy.

Casual and quick restaurant with decent food. We got the Kung Pao Chicken which was good. The Bbq Pork Lo Mein was tasty too, but hardly had any pork in it, and the Beef Pan Fried Noodles which were very salty. For the price and convenience, it was fine. Service was good and staff is nice.

Friendly service, fast seating. The TV's were all playing news commentary and the staff turned it off around 8. HK noodles are a hit. Great prices.

Ask the Community - Chen's Chinese Restaurant

Are you open on Christmas Eve, Dec 24th?

Yes they are open everyday except for Thanksgiving

Is the rice made with water? I see lots of vegetable dishes - are they really vegan? No stock in the prep?

Chicken base/stock, I asked for a Kosher friend and there is chicken base in most veggie dishes.

Do they use MSG?

Msg is literally flavor, i hope they do.

Came by on a Thursday night and got seated immediately... and then watched the line form right…read morebehind us. Timing has never been one of my talents, but apparently it was that night. Parking is a bit of a game of chance thanks to the tiny lot, so plan accordingly. Once you're inside though, the restaurant is super clean, modern, and the service is fast and attentive. We started with the papaya salad. It was just okay--I'm still trying to figure out why there was a blanket of romaine lettuce casually lounging on top. I ordered medium spice, which turned out to be "medium if you breathe fire for fun." The papaya was also a little more raw than I personally like. The tom kha soup was decent, but the real MVP was the drunken noodles with beef. Those noodles were absolutely swimming in savory goodness and perfectly soft. I would've happily ordered a second plate and called it "dessert." Overall, I'd definitely come back--mostly because those drunken noodles are already living rent-free in my head.

My family and I were heading to the Aquarium of the Pacific and wanted to find a good dinner spot…read morenearby afterward. I came across this place on TikTok because of their famous Thai tea popsicle, so naturally I had high hopes. First off, we got incredibly lucky with parking. I can definitely see how parking could be a nightmare since the lot is tiny, so consider finding a spot part of the dining experience. When we arrived, the inside was cute and seemed clean. We were seated outside, which also looked nice at first glance, but I noticed quite a few spider webs around the windows. My boyfriend even felt webs brushing against his arm while we were sitting there, which wasn't exactly the extra ambiance we were expecting. We ordered quite a bit: spicy Pad Thai, Bang Bang Shrimp, Pad See Ew, mango sticky rice, and of course the Thai tea with the popsicle. I'll give credit where it's due. The Bang Bang Shrimp was easily the best thing we ordered and was absolutely delicious. The Thai tea popsicle also lived up to the TikTok hype, although the actual Thai tea itself was on the sweeter side. If you love sugar, you'll probably enjoy it. My biggest complaint with the food was the spicy Pad Thai. The flavor was great, but it came with what felt like a whole chicken farm and a cameo appearance from the noodles. I ordered Pad Thai, not chicken with noodle garnish. The Pad See Ew was also noticeably salty. Now you're probably wondering why I'm giving this place a low rating if most of the food was decent. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. When it was time to pay, my aunt was figuring out how much everyone needed to Zelle her since the restaurant only allows a maximum of two cards for split payments. While we were trying to do the math, our waiter stood over us watching the payment screen like he was supervising a final exam. He was clearly waiting to make sure a tip was entered. My aunt politely asked him to give us a minute, and thankfully he walked away. Maybe when you see a family actively calculating a bill, that's your cue to...actually give them a minute. Keep in mind we also tipped 20% despite all this. Throughout the meal, he did stop by our table, but it rarely felt like he was checking in to make sure everything was okay. If anything I felt rushed. He also gave off that "customer service smile" that disappears the moment you stop looking. The cherry on top for me happened as we were leaving. We had been sitting on the outdoor patio talking for a bit after paying, which is pretty normal for my family. Before leaving, I went inside to ask where the restroom was. The guy and girl behind the bar looked at each other, laughed, and then asked if I was a paying customer. Keep in mind, I was literally holding a to-go bag with leftovers from the restaurant. I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. Between hovering over us during payment and questioning whether I even belonged there after spending money, I left feeling more unwelcomed than satisfied. I'll happily support a restaurant that appreciates my business instead of making me feel like I have to prove I earned the right to use the restroom after paying for dinner.

Excited to have found a solid place for Chinese food in Long Beach!…read more We came in on a Friday night and it was steadily busy. We were seated and the food came out quickly, but after that, service was a bit slow. We tried several things including the crab and pork soup dumplings, shrimp wonton in chili oil, house beef noodle soup, orange chicken, and walnut shrimp. Definitely a place you can easily have a family style meal at! Crab and pork soup dumplings - really good flavor, wish there was slightly more soup in the dumpling! Would definitely get again, especially if you get their HH price Walnut shrimp - my new favorite walnut shrimp in the area! These came out nice and fresh, shrimp was cooked well, sauce was good balance of sweet and savory Beef noodle soup - broth was surprisingly not as hearty as the deep color would make you think, but still very full of beef flavor. The beef was very tender, melt in your mouth! Noodles were nicely bouncy with mild chew. Good option if you are in the mood for noodle soup Orange chicken - unfortunately seemed to be a mix of freshly cooked and an old order as some pieces were warmer than others. Good flavor, but chicken inside the breading was quite dry. Wish it was a bit saucier Shrimp wonton in chili oil - to me had a strange aftertaste. It does have cucumber in the wonton - warm cucumber taste was not for me Inside had a rustic appearance with brick walls and industrial lights. A good place to eat with a few friends and try different things. Would come back for the walnut shrimp and crab and pork soup dumplings!

I wanted to find out if this spot was as good as I had remembered it. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I was practically disappointed by two out of the three dishes. Two of them that should've been the best. I'll start out with the Mongolian beef. There was plenty of meat and onions and green onions, but there was no kick to it, not the greatest flavor either. It was also a little watery, which was a major letdown for me. I was really looking forward to enjoying it with the white rice that came with it. Next up was the chicken chow mein. I was expecting to have long noodles in its to go box but when I was eating it, it was small noodle cuts. That was a bit shocking for me. It also didn't have a lot of great flavor, and again I was let down. I did get vegetable fried rice, because who could actually screw that up. It was the best dish out of the three. Not a ton of flavor in it but enough for me to actually enjoy it. I tried using the leftover chow mein by putting it in a skillet and adding a few spices and oils. It improved it just a little bit, but not enough. Clearly, I can't go back here. It's like they say: buy cheap get cheap.

She did not let me down as we walked in and noticed how truly authentic it was going to look. Chinese decor on the walls and boxes of restaurant supples in the corners. Just as it should be. The bonus was that they had a TV showing the NBA Finals when we arrived. Pretty nice touch and in the back of the restaurant so as not to distract everyone. We went with a couple of our favorite dishes to run along and the Chicken Lo Mein was pretty good. Crispy pieces of chicken and soft noodles and veggies to go with it. We chose to get Mongolian Beef and it was absolutely fantastic. Crispy celery, green onions and decent sized pieces of meat in a terrific sauce. I would love to try to replicate that. My wife wanted a shrimp dish so she ordered the honey walnut and it even looked good to me when they brought it. She loves egg rolls, so she got a four piece and said they were pretty good. My biggest wow of the visit was their vegetable fried rice. MY GOD. I dont know what they season or flavor it with, but every fork full of rice that i ate, it was this sense of flavor that reminded me of butter or something else. I really loved the sensation i experienced from this particular dish. I am really curious on what it actually is. I will definitely be ordering out or coming in for Chinese because that reminded of many other places that put out fantastic dishes.

We had plenty to share, which is always a plus. The restaurant has a nice family-style vibe, but it's a lot smaller inside than it looks from the outside. If it's busy, it can feel pretty cramped, and you'll probably have to squeeze between tables and chairs to get around. If it's not crowded though, it's much easier to move around. The service was fast, which I appreciated. The only downside was the food runner who brought out our meals. He wasn't very friendly and kind of just set the plates down wherever there was space, even on top of the plates we were already using. It felt a little careless and took away from an otherwise good experience. Overall, the food was definitely the highlight, but because of that experience with the service, it'll probably be a while before I come back.
