After hearing so many locals online talk about this place I had to try it out. I was only ordering for myself but intended on having leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I was suggested to try their special for two for $25.99 which includes 2 fried and/or white rice, 2 entrees, soup and 2 egg rolls (I opted for no soup and 4 egg rolls). The order is made to order so it's not sitting under a heat lamp. Service was great and the cashier/cook was very nice. I had the garlic shrimp and kung pao chicken and the portions are very generous. Inside is very spacious with plenty of seating. Next time I'm craving some fresh Chinese food with nice portions at a great price I'll definitely be back since it's down the street from me. Ordered to go once I arrived and it was done in 15 minutes. Very friendly, kind service that gave me recommendations. Well packed too. All three dishes were wonderful. The portions filled the containers. The kung pao was enough for three portions. Not really spicy but I love that it did have peanuts. Honey Walnut Shrimp had a nice breading, not too thick, and balanced sweet sauce. I was surprised at how many walnuts there were, generous. Chow mien had a good char and solid favor. Posted this to Facebook: We had the $40 meal deal last night and have observed the following: 1. The hot/sour soup's temperature was not hot. Lukewarm at best. The ingredients were lackluster compared to other Chinese restaurants. No wood-ear mushrooms, not enough tofu chunks, eggs did not taste fresh. Not enough spicy taste (hot). The sourness in a sense tasted rancid which is a telling sign of chef not knowing how to properly prepare a hot/sour soup. 2. We opted for the Mongolian beef upgrade. Too much of the brown sauce which overpowered the entire dish. Need to add green onion. 3. We opted for the braised shrimp dish. At this point, I was very disappointed with our meal and this may have clouded my review of this place. The shrimp did not taste fresh and was over-fried before tossed in the wok. The sauce tasted like the sauce used for the egg rolls with garlic added to it. No vegetables (onions and peppers would have been perfectly acceptable). 4. We added the garlic sautéed spinach to our meal. Overcooked and mushy... While the staff was friendly and tried their best, the quality of the food is not what we were expecting. While the price point was eye catching, it will be very difficult for me to make a return trip. Much to my chagrin, we left disappointed... I hope the owners really read these critiques seriously. I really wanted to like this place, but I was greatly disappointed! Orange chicken is one of my go-to's when ordering Chinese food, and theirs just isn't good! I read another review that said Trader Joe's frozen orange chicken was better, and it really is! The texture was not crisp, the meat was a little dry, and the orange flavor is very tangy. I also ordered the chow mein, and that was just okay... not horrible but also not great! Lastly, no fortune cookies? That is Chinese takeout 101 and there was no fortune cookie given with my order. When we first walked in the inside was very warm, but the waitress then turned the fan on for us, and it made it a lot more comfortable in there. We were the only ones in there so it was a little worrisome, but we were greeted with happy, smiles and friendliness. The proprietors work hard but they can barely be heard as they speak so softly. I can't describe how grateful I am to have found this place, and so close to my home! I was looking for food late night about two weeks ago and found L.C. on Google. The rating was solid, and it's literally right around the corner from my new apartment, and they happened to have my favorite dish (Jalapeno Chicken) on their menu. I walked in and saw what looked like an operation that was reduced down to two people; the young lady behind the counter added up my total on a calculator (not her phone, an old school, Texas Instruments calculator) and proceeded to tell me that they don't take cash. I was no doubt annoyed, I'd specifically only brought cash with me, but then she told me how the place had been broken into several times and so they don't keep a POS system, or register or even a computer. They do everything by hand I'm a sap, so I added an entree of house fried rice to my order (which many of the reviews and even the server highlighted) and said a quick prayer for the building before leaving. I got home, and man I wish I would have taken pictures...generously-sized, hearty cuts of chicken, fresh jalapenos, just enough veins and seeds to provide the spice it needs...and the sauce was perfection. The fried rice was an uppercut to the jaw, you can tell it was LITERALLY made to order, not sitting reserve in a metal tray or wok...buddy did his thing. The CLINCHER, not only did I have plenty of leftovers THE FOOD WAS BETTER THE NEXT DAY, especially the chicken entree. God bless and preserve this place, there's a lot of love filling those walls. Since I was so tired of walk-up Chinese Food places that you can see prepare your paper container that soaks up all of the juices and flavor, I was seeking larger portions and food that I can see the steam come off of! And YES! I found this in Lucky Chopsticks! The combination rice was delicious! The shrimp with lobster sauce was tasty. The orange chicken was flavorful and the quality of the meat was excellent. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Lucky Chopsticks, a Chinese restaurant located on the west side of Long Beach. After reading some positive reviews, we decided to give it a shot, and we were not disappointed. This place is newly remodeled but feels more like a whole in the wall spot. They seemed to get a lot of phone orders! I got the Spicy Tofu and my son got the orange chicken.. The tofu was nicely cooked, with a perfect balance of a crispy exterior and a moist, flavorful interior. The addition of green onions provided a refreshing touch, and the black beans added another layer of flavor. I will definitely be ordering this again. My son opted for the Orange Chicken, and it turned out to be a great choice as well. Unlike the typical battered orange chicken found in many places, Lucky Chopsticks' version was unique. The chicken was crispy on the outside, yet remained moist and tender on the inside, without the heavy batter. The flavors were bold and well-balanced, with a tangy sweetness that my son absolutely loved. In addition to the great flavors, the service at Lucky Chopsticks was friendly and welcoming. Their server said he is the only worker there. He really wants to help the family get the word out there because 1. It's good food and 2. He mentioned they were a really nice family. I'm all about supporting small businesses and this os one we'll definitely be frequenting. If you're in the mood for delicious Chinese cuisine and find yourself on the west side of Long Beach, I highly recommend paying a visit to Lucky Chopsticks. Do yourself a favor and get the frozen bag from Trader Joe's as it is leaps and bounds better than what I received. The chicken was increasingly dry, tough, and chewy and had maybe 2 tablespoons of sauce for the entire dish, that was just thrown on top, not even tossed in an attempt to coat. Our search for good Chinese food is over. It's not a to go to type spot where you pick your food from the hot bar but maybe that's a good thing. This place has easy parking, very clean inside, great customer service. We wanted a combination type meal with fried rice and chow mein. They have family deals on the menu but it only included steamed rice or chow mein. The woman working said they can sub for chow mein and no up charge. We ordered the beef and broccoli which was good quality and very flavorful so far the best round and we've been looking. The orange chicken was nice and crunchy and meaty it wasn't over battered. The fried rice was good and traditional and the chow mein was delicious too. I've never had egg drop soup but it was included with the meal and that had a thick flavorful broth with lots of egg and crunchy wontons to go on top made it perfect! I'm also going to say they have the best egg rolls, not overly greasy, good veggie filling and a perfect crunch! While we waited for the food to be cooked and prepped to go we took advantage of the buy one get one drinks and enjoyed Thai iced teas. Out the door for all of that it was only $54! Anyway can't say anything bad about this place and this is going to be our new go to for Chinese food it beats Nomads in my husbands eyes for me I like both but it blows any other Chinese food spot out of the water based on quality, flavor and price. read more
