I really enjoy coming here. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the vast selection on their menu! I've been here for chai only, as well as, a meal and I've never had anything bad. I've always been pleased with my food. The service is great and I found the personnel is easy going and always in a good mood and very helpful and friendly. I go for the great food and the great customer service I'm provided. The bakery portion, provides many baked goods to choose from and always tasty and fresh. It's a rather small place, so expect to wait to get a table, but overall, I have no problem waiting a few minutes to enjoy the atmosphere that I find here. My boyfriend and I went to New Day Bakery after church. We got lattes and cups of soup. The atmosphere is neat, different and very Eugene! We have been going to New Day since it was called World Cafe and it has traditionally been a great place to go, I like the atmosphere and quick service. However, lately I have been unimpressed. Today, I was served food with HAIR cooked into it; this is at least the SECOND time that has happened to me. I ordered sausage, which is rare for me, only because it is reportedly from Knee Deep Cattle company (a local farm). The sausage was not worth eating and I had everyone at my table taste it to make sure I wasn't crazy. It was so dry, I wondered if they had given me tempeh sausage on accident. Disappointing when choose carefully when to order meat and don't get it often. I'm getting close to avoiding New Day. It's too bad. read more

How does a bakery in the Whit not have any vegan options? No wonder I never hear anyone raving about this place like almost everywhere else in this neighborhood. I asked the server "do you have anything vegan?" He gives me a stoner shrug "nah we don't have anything, don't have anything gluten free either. People are always asking for it though". Take a hint. Some of us prefer our treats without torturing animals, some of us have dietary restrictions. And this neighborhood is known for adhering to such requests. Very disappointed in this place. read more

When I moved to Eugene in 1999 New Day was exceptional.I moved to the Blair area last summer. First visit.There was so much salsa on my food, I couldn't see it. Second visit, served another heaping plate of salsa.Third visit, I ordered a patty melt. This was served on a cold, untoasted bun and the home fries were like cold mashed potatoes.I will try one more time this afternoon.Would love to be able to eat at New Day and give them a nice review.Went for the last time today.Had a Mexican scramble. Eggs were OK.The cold, brown rice was not appreciated or eaten.The kidney beans on the plate were OK-seemed unusually bland.I'll be back for a fresh bagle.No more meals. read more

I had never been clapped at before I went to New Day. I'm not sure if you have but it was extremely humiliating to be treated like a dog. CARL, The gentleman (if i can say that) who clapped at me needs a big lesson in communication and customer service. This place is rude and and made me feel horrible. Arrived from out of town, super hungry. The California burger and "fries" (they're actually seasoned large cube hashbrowns) really hit the spot. The establishment is very clean and the employees are courteous. Grabbed a bag of pastries for breakfast too. It smells so good, they may not make it until morning. I live in the Whiteaker. New Day Bakery is a convenient breakfast spot & place to meet friends. I will admit that I have a special place in my belly for their food, but the service & quality are spotty at best. You never know what you'll get. . . I've eaten here at least 50 times or more. I don't expect the clerk to know me by name, but there are a couple things I do expect: If I order a slice of pizza (which has gone up in price twice in the past 6 months), and you tell me that it's going to take 20 minutes, then I expect it in 20 minutes (30 minutes, if it is swamped). If 45 minutes pass and I still don't have it, and I have to track a food runner down to ask where the pizza is, then something is wrong. If you bring out the slices after 55 minutes and they are doughy & undercooked, something is definitely wrong. It makes me wonder why the pizza took this long. But I'll leave my wonder for others to discover. read more

This cozy place is a Whiteaker neighborhood gem. I'm a big fan of the bakery, the soups, the burgers, Bill & his staff, but most importantly the pizza dough. There's no better in town, and you can even get it in select stores, like Market of Choice. The ambiance is perfect year-round. There's a piano anyone can tinker on. Please don't if you play poorly. Nobody likes crappy piano players. The place is surprisingly romantic in a hipster kind of way. They have great beer, local organic products, and it always smells good. New Day just simply makes me feel good! Oh, and Sam Bonds Garage is next door, so hop from one patio to another and enjoy yourself a scotch & rocks after you get your New Day fill....... read more

I'm giving this 2 stars because I've had decent pizza here, but yesterday my husband and I both got very sick to our stomachs immediately after eating, it was either the home fries, the salsa or something in my husbands bean bowl ( I had a bite.) It's more than a bakery: they also have an extensive breakfast/lunch menu and good espresso. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant, and sometimes they host live music on the outdoor patio. Added bonus: they offer public WiFi. I love this place, and I'm unsure why more Eugeneians don't come here. read more

My father told me a good indicator for any food dispensing place is how clean their bathroom is. This holds true at new day bakery. A faucet that barely works, a bar of soap, and a towel for your hands. Didn't seem sanitary at all. It was right in line with the poor decor and lack of hygiene that was seen of one of the cooks. The food was decent and moderately priced, but the architecture and seating arrangement was off putting, and the bathroom sealed it's fate for this review. Not impressed read more

Great spot for coffee, baked goods or a sit down breakfast with fresh ingredients at a reasonable price. The breakfast menu is impressively expansive and everything is extremely well prepared. Staff is nice and the space is large and includes an outdoor patio area for the warmer weather. Just a heads up though, a visit to New Day does not include table service, so keep that in mind if your next visit includes a hangover. read more

My boyfriend decided to walk down the street to pick us up breakfast. He ordered two very over priced breakfast burritos. They put them on plates and handed them to him. He said "uhhh I asked for these to go". They told him they didn't have any type of bags or containers. So they through some wrap on the top and sent him on his way. He has to walk all the way home with paper plates and burritos. They should really consider thinking of some way to accommodate all types of orders. I live down the street and we would have love to make this place our regular spot. But it's just not worth the price or issues I have had. There cups dissolved while waking back home too. I'm all for being environmentally conscious, but it has to be practical too. Definitely won't be back. read more

I stopped by New Day Bakery in a hurry on a Sunday afternoon. My boyfriend and I needed a quick lunch and figured a sandwich would fill us up and be ready quickly. I've passed by this Bakery so many times but had no idea how huge it is on the inside! When you walk inside, the delicious and comforting smell of fresh baked pastries hits you right away. We were greeted by a friendly woman who said the five most wonderful words you can hear in a Bakery: we serve breakfast all day! I'm a breakfast fanatic and always looking for yummy egg-tastic dishes that don't end at 11am. Unfortunately I did not try the breakfast yet because of how much of a hurry we were in so we decided on two veggie sandwiches on sourdough. We grabbed a number (actually a flag of France instead of a number) and found a booth. Our sandwiches didn't come with sides so I asked for some of their carrot slaw. The sandwich itself would have been even better toasted and definitely ask for the carrot slaw ON the sandwich....yum! The cucumber was too thick and they sadly skimped on the avocado. The hummus tasted good but without that slaw I ordered it would have been a very dry and bland sandwich. A suggestion would be to spice up the veggies a little bit and make it something special. Maybe pickled onions or marinated tomatoes. Veggies deserve love too! It was almost like eating an undressed salad on some bread. I do appreciate the amount of veggies though. Next time I go in I will definitely be ordering one of their breakfast items and will update my review. They also have pizzas, pastries, burritos and fresh baked breads. read more

My go-to place in Eugene for a healthy, mellow and inexpensive lunch. They have a combo burrito made to order with a long list of fillings that is my favorite. Their menu is pretty wide ranging, and safe to bring folks with much different tastes(soups, pastas, sandwiches, burritos, pizzas...). Also, their desserts are delicious and super cheap(flan, cheesecakes, cakes, cupcakes, ...). I like this place! Their outdoor seating is nice too. read more

My parents loved their turkey sandwhiches (they roast their own turkey). We had the almond cookies too - wow! They do a great job on simple foods! I came for a breakfast pastry and coffee. Their pastry case was surprisingly small for a place that advertises itself as a bakery, so I was a little skeptical. I got a blueberry scone and a house coffee. The scone was a little eggy and chewy, as well as pretty bland...I'm a (unprofessional) baker myself and I wasn't impressed. The coffee was fine, although I was surprised they didn't advertise better what kind of coffee it was, as Eugene has so many amazing coffee roasters. It's clearly more of a meal place than a coffee place, and I definitely fought for (limited) seating with the lunch crowd. All that said, I wasn't dissatisfied, and I'm glad I came to try it out. I ordered the omelette. I got black beans in it with some jack(cheese), mushrooms and avocado slices(on top). Paired with it was some delicious sourdough toast. SO GOOD. This family business is as good a bakery as bakeries can be! Over our 8 months in Eugene, this is our top discovery. The garden terrace is wonderful (can't wait for Spring). The breads & croissants are great, but the petits pains au chocolate and challah bread are divine. Even our Jewish friends in Portland rave about it. Huge disappointment. Even though there appears to be a huge menu, there really wasn't that much variety, and, for the heart of the Whitaker, it's very vegan-unfriendly. None of the desserts are vegan and even the whole wheat bread apparently had some non-vegan ingredient. The staff was at least very accommodating, announcing what wasn't vegan and letting me substitute, but I was dismayed at how limited my choices became. I had the grilled tempeh sandwich which was ok, but pretty dry, bland, and nothing you couldn't quickly make at home. However, it still took them over an hour (!) to bring it out. Granted, I had come with a large group, but we were nearly the only ones in the restaurant and people's food came out one-by-one, so it really should have been faster. Maybe non-vegan foods are more flavorful, but I definitely would not recommend to vegans. The bathroom is also a little gross. They have a big table of cheap day-old pastries, which is a nice bargain but it seems like they're not well-organized to always have so many leftovers. read more
