I suppose I've been absolutely spoiled rotten because I live right next to hideaway bakery, but this place was a resounding disappointment. I'm not sure I understand the other reviews --the pastries are all obscenely huge, and the puff pastry is more like greasy bread than actual pastry. I had the mushroom and herb pastry, and it was simultaneously greasy, bland, and terribly textured..., I couldn't finish it. The atmosphere is wonderful, I wish the food was at the same standard! Stopped here for lunch so my wife could meet up with an old friend while we were visiting Eugene. I had just polished off two pints at Ninkasi up the road and I wasn't too hungry. My wife and her friend, however, were starving. This place has a MASSIVE menu board. Seriously, they must go through two boxes of chalk to put all that up there. The wife got the grilled tempeh sandwich. Her friend got a burrito. I opted for dessert only. Got myself a mocha cheesecake and a hot mocha beverage. The dining room looked reasonably clean. They have a large patio in front of the place. It appears they have free wifi--I saw several folks clicking away on their MacBooks. The food came out of the kitchen promptly. The food looked really good and the portions were generous, too. That burrito was huge and for $5.95, I'd call it a bargain. I can't pass judgement on the tempeh sandwich because, well...ick, tempeh, but my wife ate the whole thing and seemed to enjoy it. My little cheesecake was quite tasty and I have to say that the espresso drink was one of the best I've had in long time. All-in-all: good food, friendly service, decent prices. The food is great and the prices are reasonable! This would be a four star review if it were not for the absolute TERRIBLE service I have gotten EVERY single time I have gone there. I feel like they only hire young people who go out partying all night and show up for work hungover. Every single time I have been there I have been treated like a huge inconvenience for wanting food or coffee. This is the only reason that New Day is not my go-to spot in Eugene. If you don't mind shitty service and people that make you feel like a nuisance for merely walking into their establishment, then by all means, go check out the delicious food and great patio! read more

Why don't we have this in my city... I love it, I loved it from the smell when I got in, I loved the friendly vibe of the place and the relax mode of the clients. The food got to my hearth and the pastry is so honest.. and what is not to love about honesty when it's delicious at the same time. I went in today for cheese cake. In my opinion some of the best cheese cake in town. Not only did I get cheese cake I also bought a bag of "day old" pizza rolls (they are normally delisous). I finally get home to open my bag of rolls and the top roll was molded on the bottem and the other 2 were exceedingly molded. Now the restaurant part of the bakery is really bad, the food is horrible. The building isnt horribly dirty but it isnt all that clean either. The only reason I have gone here in the past was for bread and desserts, but I think that's over with now. I don't think I can trust that they have good quality fresh food. read more

About the worst service I have ever recieved. We arrived at opening. No one helped us for 30 minutes. Finally the delivery driver felt bad for us and came to the counter. Though people were sweeping and setting up no one came even after another half hour passed. Realize it is a counter order cafe, but for heaven's sake....help out your customers. So unimpressed. Cinnamon roll was fine, but seems they forgot the cinnamon. I am one who loves to give good reviews and does so often, but this place is icky. read more

New Day Bakery has wonderful baked goods, and a very eclectic menu. There is definitely something for everyone. Pizza, burritos, spaghetti, scrambles, and just about anything else. If it isn't on the menu, you can ask for it and they will make it. The prices are good, with most entrees in the 8 to 10 dollar range. The coffee is great, and the service is friendly and laid back. Unlike other hippy-trippy places, there is no pretense at New Day. It is just a couple blocks from Ninkasi, where God's nectar is on tap in the form of Oatis. You can park at the Red Barn and then make a one-stop shopping trip. read more

I had the Jalapeno Burger with home fries. The burger was very good--great soft bun, fresh veggies, and tasty, flavorful meat. I loved the way they placed the jalapenos in the melted cheese. But, I wish they had french fries to go with the burger. The side of home fries (a breakfast side) isn't ideal in my opinion. I also prefer to have free soda refills (that I can get myself). Here, they allow one free refill only, and the machine is behind the counter. This place is weird in that you order at the counter, but the place feels like a sit-down restaurant that should have waiters. I suppose this is a good place. I guess I'm just not as much a fan of these hippy-oriented joints as my wife is. read more

Here's the thing: it's been 4 days and I can't stop thinking about the Grilled Tempeh sandwich I had here. My BF kinda sorta insisted we go here for that particular item and since I was visiting from out of town I figured he would know the haps. Anyway I ordered my sandwich blindly, trusting said BF all the way. Then I re-read the menu and realized there was no mayo or sauce or any other such condiment on the sandwich I ordered. For a moment I was skeptical. And then the counter girl/server brought this delight to our table and after the first bite I was hooked. I keep asking myself (as well as the BF): "Why/how is it so good?" It's so basic: grilled tempeh, house-made carrot relish, red leaf lettuce and tomato all served on what is some of the freshest, most wonderful wheat bread I have ever eaten. All we can figure is that it is a fresh, light meal and it is done exceptionally well. Oh and did I mention they serve beer? This girl is SOLD! I found the service to be friendly and prompt. So there's that. I thought maybe writing about this sandwich would be cathartic in purging my never-ending cravings. Turns out I want one more than ever. Go figure. read more

Great food, kind and polite employees. The baked goods are wonderful to take home. We come here often and it's very much worth the money. Expect a line, especially when there are many to-go orders (which they've got lots of right now, presumably because it's too cold and wet to sit outside, plus people are concerned with social distancing.) I can only rate this on their baked goods I purchased at the Farmer's Mkt. Almond danish: Fresh, soft, delicious. Homemade oreo type cookie: Basically two chocolate crinkle cookies together with oreo type filling in between. Cookies were great, but just too sweet for me with the sweet filling. Don't go there for lunch. Great breakfast place, but I've tried it more than once for lunch it just doesn't come out right. Quesadillas with all the ingredients served on the side? Burgers one step away from raw, and even then the meat is unseasoned and tasted off maybe it was one day away from going bad? Each time I have gone with others and none of the lunch meals were right. That said no matter what time of day the entire breakfast menu is delicious, just skip the rest of the menu, it is consistently disappointing. read more

My wife and I just spent 25 bucks on a meal here. I think we could have just went and bought groceries made it ourselves and had a way better meal. I had the avocado and swiss burger. It had no flavor what so ever. The patty was definitely out of a box and there was 3 tiny little slivers of avocado. Had a salad with it and everything in it look like it had been sitting around for longer then I should, the tomatoes were way over ripe. Completely disappointed with my meal. My wife had the cheddar and ham scramble. That was so small I though it was made from the kids menu and she was served toast that was hard as a rock and not even warm. Not sure how this place stays open. I'm thinking there bakery goods must be really good but I'll never know because I won't be coming back. The food was fresh and delicious! I ordered the Huevos Rancheros; the salsa tasted fresh and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The dish was quite hot when it came, but not too hot to eat. The service was prompt and friendly, and I enjoyed the spacious interior. The outside seating is also nice during the spring/summer. I will definitely be going back regularly! read more

Loved this place! The menu has a wide variety. Pizza, calzones, sandwiches, coffee and (the best part) breakfast all day! The staff was super friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a nice low key atmosphere and was very clean. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because my food was a little cold when it was served, but overall I really liked this restaurant. I had a pasta dish the last time that was runny and generally mediocre, but I do love the atmosphere of the patio and the employees are friendly and efficient. Nasty juice bar These people have no clue how to run a juice bar. The idea of a juice bar is to make juice taste 1. delicious 2. drinkable. I ordered a carrot ginger juice and my friend ordered a ginger juice. The ginger juice was plain ground ginger and water with no sugar or apples or anything. It was gross!. My carrot ginger juice was bad too. My stomach was churning and I went home and threw up and my body was covered in hives :-(. I know that I am not allergic to either carrots or ginger so they definitely put something else in my juice. The bakery looks unhygenic and the employees look like they never wash their hands. Even to this day when I hear the words carrot ginger, I feel nauseous. They definitely ruined a good thing for me :-( read more

I really love the atmosphere and the location of New Day. I come here for breakfast often, and for some reason I always expect (home?) that it'll be better than it really is. Their rancheros sauce (heuvos) tastes like marinara sauce, and their mexican scramble is dry, bland, and very mild. As I'm gluten-free, I am pretty limited to their non-bakery items, so I can't say whether their delicious looking baked goods, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches might be much better than my own experience. read more

This is my must stop every time I am in Eugene. To me its a great place to get a good breakfast at an affordable cost. My faviorte being the french toast. Its made out of high quality egg bread, and it just soaks up the syrup. I also enjoy their coffee drinks. This is place is not for everyone. Its laid back and the general vibe makes it a great place to relax, and enjoy your cofee and whatever you are eating. The staff is friendly but always busy making new things. The selection was all over the place and ultimately, there was still so little from which to choose. I settled on the chili, which I would probably say was the worst chili I've ever eaten, only I'm still not certain, as something has to have at least SOME flavor in order to tell if it was good or bad. Chili powder would be a good place to start, but then what would you have been flavoring? It's difficult to find the words to describe the texture, somewhere between a creamed soup and oatmeal. All I could do was apologize repeatedly to my friend who was visiting from out of town. In the past, I've gone back to restaurants after trying something on the menu I didn't like, and I'd be willing to give New Day a second try, as well (though, not the chili), if the staff had shown the slightest acknowledgement of me or my friend's existence, outside of taking our money. Micro aggressive / inappropriate question from employee and now I won't be returning. Had been eating here every morning getting a breakfast burrito with basil. Last time, I was sitting at a table waiting for my food, an employee there was sweeping by my table and almost swept my shoes she was too close for comfort then she blatantly asked me "Are you from Jamaica or do you just wear your hair like that?" I said "Why would you ask me if I was from jamaica?" She replied "People from Jamaica wear their hair like that" I replied "Is something I'm wearing making you think in from Jamaica?" she said "nevermind" and walked away without apologizing. I was wearing a white and pink hoodie and nike shoes no Jamaican colors and I don't have an accent.. I'm just black with dreadlocks.. The couple at the table next to me was laughing at the whole thing and I felt really alienated and uncomfortable being the only PoC there. Do you ask every asian person that eats there if they are from China? Having worldly flags from all over the world at your establishment and then alienating me. That is unacceptable behavior especially from an employee and I will never be returning. Terrible and traumatizing experience. I mostly come here for their pastries, bread and calzones. I got their breakfast burrito and it was very bland but their calzones are sooooo good. Their coffee is pretty good too, better than the over sweetened coffee from dutch bros. I love their sourdough bread and pastry selection. I really enjoy coming here. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the vast selection on their menu! I've been here for chai only, as well as, a meal and I've never had anything bad. I've always been pleased with my food. The service is great and I found the personnel is easy going and always in a good mood and very helpful and friendly. I go for the great food and the great customer service I'm provided. The bakery portion, provides many baked goods to choose from and always tasty and fresh. It's a rather small place, so expect to wait to get a table, but overall, I have no problem waiting a few minutes to enjoy the atmosphere that I find here. I always see someone I know because they frequent this place too and everyone is having a nice and relaxed time. read more
