So rare to find a professional who is willing to give such detailed advice with no monetary gain for himself, and it was very obvious that he really knew what he was talking about. No snap, crackle, or pop, and little heat from it. I contacted several prospective businesses using Thumbtack and chose GMT. The sales rep, Joe, informed me the previous work was not good or up to code and explained the problem and what they would to do fix it. This included demolishing the old chimney and replacing it, as well as putting in a new liner. They also did work in the basement to replace cracking seals and ducts. Needed the bricks re-cemented - the entire top of our chimney had loose bricks and from the ground…read morelooked like was ready to fall. We called Safeside and they had someone come out for a free estimate. They came the next day and did a thorough inspection, taking pictures and explained what needed to be done. I was impressed by their professionalism and the price was reasonable as the height and angle of our roof was dangerous. The person who sold me the business was very professional and thorough. He used a very fancy video…read moresystem. It was a very large and expensive job, but it had to be done. My main problems: 1) No permit pulled and I had to use leverage from the town permit department to get this done. 2) The old smoke smell still remains. 3) They dumped whatever they were using (mostly cement with chemicals: hard smelling), behind my house, in my yard, and l had to push for someone to come and remove some of it. I'm still worried because I have a well. 4) The workers were leaving before they finished one piece of work in the basement. I caught it on time.
