Hughes Motors Auto Repair

Hughes Motors Auto Repair

I found Hughes Motors Auto Repair as I was scrolling through hoping to find a good and possibly my…read morepermanent mechanic going forward as going through mechanics is a struggle I own an Alfa Romeo Stelvio so was hoping that at Hughes, they will service my car and which they did I got an oil change and a brake flush bringing in my own parts, now this was the first mechanic that required me to bring in an OEM oil filter which I found interesting to say the least but I had a good feeling so the next morning, went to get a OEM oil filter and went to Hughes. I have gotten lower estimates but I think I rather pay a little more knowing I'm in good hands and I think everyone can agree with that. Now, the staff was very welcoming and very nice so I was talking to the staff about lowering my car and doing other repairs in the future and they basically told me that I shouldn't and that a lot of mechanics will turn away modified cars due to their geometry and needing a special lift.. but I am still going to haha, I'm a little stubborn so hopefully they will still service my car in the future and be my permanent mechanic going forward! Extra things to note, they do have a waiting room and they offer things to eat and drink!

I guess if you're not doing big money jobs, you're low priority. Came in here to do a simple…read morebattery replacement. Let me just say that I've been coming here for YEARS and have spent thousands since I had another car that I serviced. It's been convenient and most of the mechanics are friendly and knowledgeable. Today, I had a different experience. First off, the guy at the front (I won't say any names) is rude. It takes nothing to say hello back to someone who came in and said hello. Anyway, came in to do a battery replacement. Everything was done and as I was walking to the office, I see my car....left UNATTENDED WITH THE HOOD UP and my car still running for several minutes. He just left it there like that. I walked to the office (hood was still up). Stood there waiting to get my bill and keys (hood still up) Mind you...it's a rainy day. This kid was negligent with my property. I don't know if me being a woman alone made that acceptable but it's not. Big or small job, it's business and you treat everyone's property and them with respect. Then after seeing my car left on with the hood up, I make them aware of it and then I paid and left. As I was driving, my USB/anti theft system was not working. Screen blank. Not only was he negligent with my property....he didn't finish the job. You have to reboot the anti theft system for that and the USB/screen controls to work. I was more than willing to tip the guy since I know they don't make much on batteries but after that experience, no. You don't just put a battery in...you need to reboot the system. Today was EXTREMELY disappointing and needless to say, I will go elsewhere from now on. Maybe give JJ a bit more training.

MG Martins Auto - Oil Change Service

I dropped car off and a couple of hours later I received a text saying my car was ready. Perfect experience. Thank you Antoine! I'll be back. Highly recommend this business!

Being a recent transplant from Massachusetts, I was quite spoiled by the plethora of excellent…read moremechanics in that state, whether it be at private shops or at the dealership, who took pride in their work and resembled the Magliozzi brothers of Cambridge Mass who ran the popular radio show "Car Talk." So it was quite disconcerting when my first encounter in NY was with Westchester Toyota Service (feel free to find and read my dismal review). Hence I ran my alternator to its death and was towed to Antoine's shop, MG Martins Auto. Antoine is the owner and head mechanic. Since then I have returned for other repairs. MG Martins Auto's, or Antoine's, service can best be summed up by his three personal qualities: consistent, honest, and efficient. Whether it is your first time or fifteenth time calling the shop, he will consistently never waste your time, speak in his trademark no-nonsense tone, and get to the root of your car's problem within a few short exchanges. I find that urban New Yorkers love to throw around the despicable phrase "hooked up," idiotically signifying that one would need to get friendly with an employee or owner first in order for him to "hook you up" with good service. In that sense, Antoine is, thankfully, very much un-"urban New York." You love to see a mechanic who isn't shy about wasting ink and paper. When I have asked for an estimate, which is every time, he would print out a detailed invoice within seconds. There is no handwritten scribbles. This is no bullshit about the labor and parts breakdown. There is no mystery and there is no deception. And finally, what most shops would find to be a shortcoming--small square footage and limited lot space--has become Antoine's greatest strength. He doesn't have the space to hold your car hostage for hours or days. When your car is done, he calls you right away (and leaves you a detailed voicemail AND text if you don't pick up) so that you can come drive it away and free up space for his next job. As described by him, this forces him to be efficient and not leave any jobs incomplete for the next day. It is refreshing when a mechanic doesn't have the luxury to be slow. It also doesn't hurt that he has promised to come in before the shop opens to work on my car and actually came in early, and is younger and not yet a grumpy old mechanic with a rough side or a few teeth missing.
