I have had two repairs done so far. Ricardo was the only mechanic I found that was able to figure out how to strap up my gas tank on my 2003 Isuzu Axiom. Every other mechanic in Yonkers told me it was impossible and that I needed to get rid of my car. But thankfully a short ride down to the Bronx I was recommended to Ricardo who was experienced in dealing with older cars. He was able to salvage my gas tank and secure it for a reasonable price. He recently did my breaks and both times he was able to fix my car same day. I recommend him if your looking for a mechanic who can handle difficult repairs. I have dumped my Yonkers mechanic and I will be driving down to the Bronx from now on. read more

Had a gasket leaking from the lower flanged portion of my exhaust manifold. The bolts were loose since the donut gasket was deteriorated, but I didn't have the right tools to get the nuts off the studs. I brought the donut gasket and two brand new bolts. Owner told me $50.... thought that was a bit high, but agreed to it. Went back 45 minutes later after a trip to the ATM for his money, and an iced tea- and he says thank you, then tells me I'm short- that he said $60. I would NEVER have agreed to $60 to do the job!! I didn't pay $60, I was unhappy with the $50, for a job that at most other places was $40 at the most. So for overcharging me, changing the price on me Mr. Vasquez of Vasquez Mufflers- I have to give you 1 star and will not be back even though you referred to me by my usual mechanic of 19 years. read more

Ever hear the phrase, "good, fast, and inexpensive; pick two"? Well, I got all three at Vasquez. I had my catalytic converter stolen/cut out and O2 sensors cut while parked for one night on the street in a nice part of Manhattan. Got it towed to Vasquez via AAA. I called around to places all over Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn and no one would help me out of around 15+ shops. But several recommended I go to the Bronx to get it fixed. I looked at all the muffler-related Bronx options and chose Vasquez because they had the most and best glowing Google and Yelp reviews. I called to ask if they could not only fix it, but fix it that day and to my surprise he said sure, come on by. Ruben was expecting me and had a lift open for me. He fixed the pipe, welded it, and fixed another part of it for a very fair price. Afterwards he showed me all the parts and pieces he fixed as well as what he replaced. Clear as day. I texted a good friend of mine who knows cars inside and out and told him what happened and the price and he confirmed that it was an amazing price. You never know what you're going to get at an auto mechanic you've never been to, but Ruben was fast, honest, fair, a nice guy, thorough, and did an excellent job. I was pleasantly surprised. I told him he's now my go-to mechanic whenever I'm in the NYC area. He seems like such a good guy that if the opportunity arose to hang out with Ruben outside of his shop, I wouldn't hesitate. read more

But, my experience with Ruben at Vasquez Muffler was so exceptional, I have to write this review. I hit a NYC bump on the highway & my muffler broke off. I showed up the next day without an appointment at 3:30pm to get an estimate on replacing my muffler. To my surprise, Ruben told me he could fix it on the spot. The price he quoted to me was super affordable & he was done with the job in about an hour. I am extremely pleased with my experience & am happy to tell others to give them a try. I'm always skeptical about going to any auto repair shop, but I was pleasantly surprised when I went to Vasquez Muffler & Radiator. I was greeted professionally and with a smile! They assured me of the work needed and gave me a great price! The old muffler and tail pipe was removed, and a new muffler and tail pipe installed within 40 minutes! On Saturday, I was referred by one of their most loyal customers, a neighbor of mine. Unfortunately, the service was poor to mediocre. A helpful mechanic, Ricardo, was assisting me with the Volvo issue that could not have been resolved by them. Ricardo referred me to go to a shop that works with the electrical components of a vehicle. A Mexican-owned shop super nearby. Ricardo was cool to inform me that the shop will not be able to do much since it was pretty late in the day. Ricardo offered a temporary solution to this dilemma I was facing. He spent almost 20 minutes with me and the Volvo. I thought quickly that I must give Ricardo a cash tip $10 for just looking the fan's electrical module and advising me what I could do. A temporary fix, you know. A second mechanic of which the name I don't know was near the driver side entrance of my car. He saw the cash I had. I asked for two 10s and did not respond. If I am correct, he said this in Spanish, "I'll make it worth it for you to give that $20". I stepped out of the car and was perplexed. He quickly said again, "Your door is messed up. I can fix that right now for your $20." I was not quick enough. Ricardo was looking and holding back from saying anything. The 5'10" dark Latino salty-pepper beard took a strong a heavy rubber-ised hammer and pounded on the bent shell located on the right lateral edge of the driver side door. He threw the hammer on a cart, took the $20 I gave to Ricardo and left abruptly. That reaction was boorish. He was quick, abrupt, careless, showed disregard and disrespect to the customer. Oh, and the pounding he did on the Volvo door was not good. He created waves of bent metal that does not allowed the door to close effortlessly. But wait there's more. Now the locking mechanism is messed up. Unlocking the car is causing trouble. Ricardo was quiet but also tried to convince me that what the other guy did was better for the car. I did not appreciate this experience. I support local businesses and this experience made it me realized that I should have gone to the Volvo mechanics. read more

We recently had some work done on our car at Vasquez Muffler on Jerome Ave. in the Bronx. Our mechanic was Roberto and I have to say, it was one of the best auto repair experiences I've ever had. Roberto was very knowledgeable and worked with us with a smile and a great sense of humor. Even though they were very busy, they made the repairs on our car quickly. We dropped the car off and everything was done by the end of the day. Other repair shops have taken days to do similar repairs. I highly recommend Vasquez Muffler.
