I have used Manchester Sewing machine twice now to fix my Pfaff Expression 3.0 and both times have been excellent. The people that own it are very friendly, approachable, and can answer any question you have. The first time, my machine just needed a tune up, so it was easy, and I had no questions. The second time, I got thread stuck inside my machine and had to bring it to get untangled. I told them I was working on a project that was a gift and needed quick service. I got it. I ended up here because I needed a belt for an older Pfaff. I was told to ask for John and he was nice on the phone.....well, the first time anyway. I had done my research and knew exactly what size I needed. All I needed was for someone to go into the back of the shop and bring me the right size belt so I could pay and leave. Sounds simple, right? Uh, no. Apparently this shop doesn't actually keep track of the sizes they have in stock. They're just all thrown into one box together and you have to bring in your sewing machine so they can try the belts on one at a time to see which one fits. Same story with the bobbin winder parts. Seriously. I am not making this up. The salesgirl brought out a small box filled with little o-rings that she insisted had to be tried on the actual machine to see which fits. Since my machine is a heavy, all metal machine I wasn't too keen to go lugging it around, especially when I already know what size it takes. So I asked for John (who I had already spoken to earlier today on the phone and told I would be in before they closed at 5:00) only to find out that he wasn't there. But he might come back in. At some point. But they weren't sure when. Even though this is his business and he might presumably want to be on hand in case he has customers or something. So salesgirl called him on the phone after much exaggerated politeness on her part. You know the kind - where every overly formal word sounds like she really want to curse you. Because really, customers who know exactly what item number they want are just so much trouble. So she hands the phone to me and John is on the other end, acting all irritable because he doesn't want to come back into the store because "he's a busy person." Ahem. Whatever. Then he found out I didn't bring my sewing machine and kinda wigged out on me. I suggested that perhaps I should order my part (I know the part number, remember?) from an online retailer. At that he slammed the phone down on me. As I handed the phone back to icy politeness salesgirl, she was glaring daggers at me. Knowing I wasn't going to be exchanging any small talk or pleasantries that these small town businesses are so famous for, I left. Then I called the sewing machine guy I used to go to before I moved. I gave him the part number, he checked his stock, said he just ran out but would be glad to order it for me and I should have it in a week. Then we chatted about his store and how he used to work for Pfaff (I did not know that about him!). I told him how much I appreciated how nice everyone always was every time I went in there and how much I missed it. I meant every word. Good fabric and sewing machine shops are a dying breed. And the best part? He never asked me to bring in my machine. read more

My mother has been taking her sewing machines and scissors here for years. She recommended I have my kitchen knives sharpened here. I'm so happy I did. Very nice couple. Great service. Friendly. It took one day for 14 knives. So happy I could spend my money at a local business too! My kitchen knives can is shave steak nice and thin or cut through a tomato or squash like butter. I have purchased 2 sewing machines from New England Sewing. Both have been excellent. John the owner has kept them in top operating form, and Barb his assistant has made sure I can use them easily. I originally met them because John repaired a machine that another shop had messed up. Their repairs are quick and accurate; their prices are outstanding! I called ahead to ask if they could fix my machine and they said yes. Drove an hour to get there, only to be told they don't repair that kind of machine. Perhaps they're fine when they fix something, but their customer service is terrible. If the person answering can't answer questions correctly, they shouldn't answer. The repair technician was pretty rude as well. read more

John and Barbara are not only completely knowledgeable about every product they sell but they are both excellent trainers and just pleasant to deal with. We just purchased our new Pfaff sewing/embroidery machine from them and we are totally pleased with the experience. This is the third new sewing/embroidery machine that we have purchased from them. Over the years our older machines have required a few minor repairs which NE Sewing has handled quickly, for a very reasonable fee and - most important to us - they were always fixed correctly the first time. Never have to make a second trip to get it fixed correctly. I have nothing but good to report about them. read more
