One of the best Korean restaurants I've had the pleasure of visiting. The owner was the sweetest and super attentive. Our orders came with banchan (little sides) and everything we ate was super fresh and delicious. The ribs were my favorite but I loved everything. We live in San Francisco and were visiting Monterey when we searched for a good Korean restaurant and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, and we were so happy to see such a wide variety of Korean dishes on the menu. The three of us really enjoyed the food, especially because there were many dishes that are not easy to find in the U.S. Everything was generous, flavorful, and tasted homemade, just like Korean food should. My mother especially loved the kimchi and said it was much better than the kimchi we usually buy at the market, so we even purchased some to take home. Honestly, the food was so delicious that even compared to what we would eat in Korea, we had absolutely nothing to complain about. Everyone who worked there was also incredibly kind and welcoming, which made our meal even more enjoyable. And I have to give a special thank-you to the staff for going out of their way to safely mail back the cardigan I accidentally left behind. I had only recently bought it, so I was really worried that I might lose it. I was so relieved and grateful to receive it back. Thank you so, so much! We left the beach and wanted to grab lunch before heading home, so we decided to stop here for some Kbbq and we're so glad we did! Our first thought was, "You know it's going to be good when the outside looks like this and an older Korean lady is serving you." Sure enough, we were greeted by the sweetest older korean lady and gentleman lol, They were both incredibly kind and welcoming to our family. The restaurant felt warm and cozy, and I loved the scripture on the walls. The menu had so many authentic Korean dishes that I've always wanted to try after watching Korean dramas lol The highlight was definitely the #26 beef bone broth with sliced beef soup. It ended up being our family's favorite! Both of our kiddos had the soup with rice and completely cleaned their bowls. For BBQ, we ordered Combo #16 with beef short ribs/brisket and pork belly, which was the perfect combination. We also got lettuce, garlic, and jalapeños on the side, which is a must! This place is a little hole in the wall, BUT putting out some delicious eats! When the majority of the people in a Korean restaurant are Korean, you've come to a good place! We ordered the bulgogi and budaejigae (army stew). The bulgogi was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The soup came bubbling on a portable stove. It was so hearty and DELICIOUS- the flava!! I got the bibimbap, which was packed with fresh vegetables and lots of flavor! I loved the sweet/spicy sauce you mix in. The veggies were not overcooked, which I really appreciated. When we want to eat some warm comforting food we always come to New Korean restaurant and Order their budae-Jjigae (army stew) soup. It's a good spicy soup with ramen, spam, sausages, tofu, and a variety of assorted vegetables. The times I have gone the service is motherly and homey by their servers! I was cravingggg Korean food on a work trip in Marina and this was the only place open and I'm SO glad we came here because this was the most quaint, felt-like-home, and sweet restaurant in our entire trip. New Korea Restaurant is located in a tiny plaza with a parking lot next to a Korean market. I believe it's one of the only Korean restaurants in the area, & it feels family-owned/gives small business vibes which I love. We had decent service and were seated quickly. I got the tofu stew (sundubu jjigae) and for $18, the portion was generous. It costs an extra $1 for the egg, so I opted out. It also came with a side of white rice. The soup itself was filling and hearty, but it was a little too sweet for my liking. I've also never seen carrots in my stew but first time for everything! The ban chan also was absolutely delicioussssss and we asked for additional servings of the kimchi because it was so good!!!! Definitely did not taste like Costco kimchi, and much better than the usual at other Korean restaurants. The flavors were well balanced and mixing and matching them with each other complimented each dish. Since it is a small location getting and receiving service was no issue and they'll check on you as well for any refills on the side dishes. The soup was flavorless and thin, and it seemed like it missed the depth that you would get from stewing the soup longer. Meat quantity was also lacking. For the banchan, I enjoyed the broccoli. The kimchi was too salty and "new". Seafood pancake was overly "fishy" and the mussel flavor overpowered the other ingredients. The texture of the pancake was more reminiscent of something bready. The service was OK. We did have to continuously. ask for service.when need it. we ordered the spicy beef soup ( Yugeajung) and the flavor was on point. Spicy level just right. However there was barely any beef in it, almost not existent. The price was expensive for the amount of food especially since it felt like a veggie soup. We came during July 4 weekend and it was busy during during dinner time. 3 hardworking ajumma with beautiful glowing skin was working all the tables. They quickly got us seated. I can't tell you how grateful I was to find this Korean restaurant that had all my favorite Korean dishes. Even the Korean restaurant on caramel didn't have this many dishes. It def feels like someone's home cooking. Everything was well seasoned and delicious!! The barley tea was self serve which I liked but it had a weird taste...I guess they kept pouring hot tea into old tea. Really good Korean restaurant! Service was quick by an older friendly Korean woman. The vibe is just a local casual Korean restaurant. Ban chan: bean sprouts, potatoes, warmed fish cakes, broccoli tossed in sesame oil, kimchi and crunchy radishes in spicy sauce. Unlimited refills too! They have pickled cucumber too if you ask, and just know that this restaurant's kimchi is more sour than it is spicy. #27 Yook Gae Jang: clear noodles, an egg, strips of beef, an insane amount of white onions, some green onions, and bean sprouts. It was yummy! #18 Bulgogi: good marinated soft meat, nothing out of the ordinary, but classically delicious. Decent amount of parking around the restaurant in lots. We visited this restaurant over the weekend while traveling with our family because we were craving Korean food, and the high ratings gave us hope. While the service was very friendly and the staff were kind, the food itself was disappointing. The banchan felt under-seasoned and lacked the depth and care you would expect from a Korean restaurant. I ordered the kimchi jjigae, but it was extremely bland -- I even had to ask for saeujeot to add flavor, and it still didn't taste right. My wife also stopped eating her yukgaejang after a few bites because it lacked flavor as well. My older son's ojingeo bokkeum was also not very good. The biggest disappointment was my younger son's donkatsu. It wasn't homemade at all -- it tasted like a frozen, store-bought cutlet simply fried and served, which was really unexpected for the price. Overall, we ended up leaving most of the food uneaten. For the quality we received, the prices felt far too high. It also seemed like the flavors were adjusted more for non-Korean customers, which may explain why the dishes lacked authenticity. Great service, but unfortunately the food quality did not match the reviews or the pricing. read more

The best Korean food on the peninsula can be found at New Korea. We usually find the drive to San Jose to be totally worth it for Korean food, but the times, we just want to stay local and this is one of our go-to's. If you are a kimchi fan you won't be disappointed! Theirs is top-notch. We also love the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap and all of the other fermented sides. Service requires a bit of patience compared to some other restaurants, so I would recommend getting takeout if you are in a hurry, especially when they have a larger group dining in; but the workers are very kind. I like that the booths offer some privacy; it's one of those places we feel like we come as we are and just have an amazing meal. read more

The style makes you feel like you just went back to a couple of decades ago or maybe a small restaurant on the suburb in Korea (it's clean, so don't worry!) Service was good. No complaints.
