Apologies in advance if this review is a bit long--it's one of my first, and I'm genuinely happy to share my experience. My husband and I moved to the Hollister area about a year ago, and ever since, we've been eager to transform our backyard, which was just a patch of dirt when we arrived. As a first-time homeowner, I felt completely overwhelmed and unsure where to begin, especially when it came to choosing the right contractor. After getting some neighborhood recommendations for New Leaf, we decided to reach out. (Just to note, we had already reached out to several local contractors, but none gave us the confidence to move forward. We always had lingering doubts--whether it was about pricing, professionalism, or trustworthiness.) Javier, the owner, quickly arranged an in-person visit to check out our yard. He shared timelines, and pricing possibilities with us. He also collaborates with a landscape designer, Charlene Brum (www.brumlandscape.design.com). Working with Charlene was such a smooth and stress-free experience (everything I needed!). She created CAD plans to scale, which really eased my worries, confusion and all the unknown. Charlene was incredibly patient, clear in her communication, and so friendly. It honestly felt like talking to a friend who was just as excited as I was to help with my yard. Once the work started, there was no stopping the team! Javier has a fantastic crew that works hard and cohesively. Fernando, who led our project onsite, was very respectful and always took the time to make sure I understood his answers whenever I had questions. It was also heartwarming to see Fernando and crew mentoring a young adult on the team, teaching him about the trade and safety. My husband and I were consistently impressed with the daily progress, especially since some of my neighbors had shared less-than-ideal experiences with their own yard projects. I'm so relieved to say that our experience was nothing like that--ours was smooth! After about three weeks of hard work, the crew finished, and we absolutely love our new backyard and are excited to add our future shed and dog area. Our German Shepherd loves the evolved space too! We enthusiastically recommend Javier and New Leaf Landscapes for their landscaping services.  We took on a large backyard renovation project, and Javier was fair, honest, and delivered a quality product.  During our initial search for a landscaping contractor a couple years ago, we interviewed several companies, but we felt the most comfortable with Javier. His understanding of our project assured us that his company was the best choice for the job. The project involved many parts which included the removal of old concrete, installation of new concrete, laying artificial turf, adding drainage, adding pavers, building a cement seating area for our fountain, installing a decomposed granite (DG) pad and a DG walkway, etc.  We were very pleased with the quality of the work and how Javier was able to bring our vision to life.  We used his company again this year to remove and install a new concrete walkway on the side of our house. The work included new drainage, as we were having issues with water pooling next to the house. Javier was always honest with us and gave us great recommendations.  We were also very grateful that he honored his original quote, with just a few minor adjustments, over a year after giving us the initial quote (due to COVID and our need to save up for the project). We plan on using Javier's company again possibly next year to start a front yard project. We will never hesitate to contact Javier with any of our landscaping needs. read more

I'm new to the area and tried my luck with brand X, who did mediocre to crappy work. My neighbor called New Leaf and told me that they showed up on time, were responsive via text and phone calls, and had great design ideas. He's a tough customer, so I called New Leaf. My delusions of grandeur led to a $30K quote, which was a very fair price. Well, they worked with me and I was able to get what I needed, about 50% of the work, for less than half of the quote. I know what you're thinking, because I thought it too. They are going to cut corners. They didn't. The turf was expertly installed; they graded, installed a drain, compacted, weedstop, turf, bender board, secured, and filled/brushed. They must do a ton of work, as they moved efficiently through the process with perfect results. Not only did they do everything they said, on schedule, they did little things I never asked for. They pulled all the weeds in my backyard, they swept my walkway and patio (they didn't work near the patio!). Bottom line is these guys are good. They won't hesitate to give you everything you want for a fair deal, and will work with whatever budget you have. I will having them do the rest of the work in a few months! read more

The New Leaf team did an amazing job on our yard! From the initial quote when Javier took the time to discuss what we wanted, what our options were and how we could fit it into our budget, we were impressed. That willingness to help us design something we would love that would fit within our budget really made him stand out from others that we received quotes from. That thoroughness continued throughout and it shows in the finished project. The crew did a great job and I was really impressed with how much care they put into the details. Not all of the work that goes into a project is visible but I was really happy to see that they took the extra time to make things just right: things like extending the drains and making sure slopes are appropriate, and adding piping for A/C condenser runoff, running irrigation lines for future, and more are things that aren't aesthetic and you might not notice but goes a long way to improve functionality. They were tidy in their work and took care of our property and left it clean after each days work. We extended our driveway, added concrete walkways, as well as pavers, a retaining wall, and turf in our backyard. We moved to a new home in Hollister almost 9 months ago now as June 2023 and we started a long search to find a trusted partner to landscape and hardscape our front and backyard. After going through many interviews and one outrageous estimate that I still laugh about, we met Javier Quesada. He is simply the best contractor I have ever done business from start to finish. We had a lawn, retaining walls, pavers, drip irrigation, pergola, and plant installation done. Javier is excellent we worked with him and his design specialist to plan and implement our backyard project. We bought a new home which had only dirt and rocks in the backyard. They helped us design and implement a perfect backyard environment that my entire family could enjoy. Everything looks excellent and they where able to accomplish it very quickly. We did artificial grass, plants, walkways, and a pad for a hot tub. He did an excellent job connecting it up to our existing play area that I put in and even fixed it to level it with the grass. We bought a new build home in Hollister and along with that came an empty backyard full of dirt and mud. We contacted Javier and a few other vendors in our area to get bids for pavers, etc. Javier had the best price and awesome customer service so it was easy to choose his bid over the others. We went back and forth a few times on what we wanted/what worked for our budget and Javier was a great sport. He was very patient and responsive, and sent the revised bids ASAP. I contacted New Leaf to turn my crushed granite driveway into a paver driveway and I was very impressed with the customer service and the quality of work. Here are some highlights: - Javier called me back within a day of my initial inquiry and came out for an estimate within another day - He was incredibly responsive during the entire process, ensuring that I understood color and pattern options - He was concerned about a tree close to the driveway and recommended that I call an arborist to ensure his crew could dig up the old driveway without damaging roots. The arborist said it was OK, but he still sent his crew out to dig a test area to ensure the roots were deep enough under the driveway. - He texted photos of the work while it was being done to keep me in the loop - His crew did a great job cleaning up - there was no trace of dirt or old crushed granite after the jobwas complete. I was so happy with the driveway that I also had New Leaf re-landscape my front and back yard. I had the same great customer service experience and results with the landscaping job. We are so glad to have found Javier at New Leaf Landscapes. We didn't know where to start, so he referred us to a fabulous designer Charlene, who put our ideas onto paper. We highly recommend New Leaf Landscapes for your next landscaping project. We hired them to redo our front and back yards where they installed pavers, cement, a new irrigation system, drainage pipe, trees, sod, bender board, rocks, and tan bark. They also removed a few small trees. Javier, Fernando, and his team were very professional and responsive throughout the entire process. Javier responded quickly to my initial request for a quote and came out multiple times to work with me on ideas for the yards. Javier is very knowledgeable about what he does, but also made sure that we were getting what we wanted. We received multiple bids for our job and Javier's prices were very fair. During the job the itself, Fernando was very responsive and available to address any questions or concerns we had. We were working from home during the project and the team notified us when noise would be occurring so we would be aware and even worked around our meeting schedules if the noise was going to be too loud. Javier's team arrived on time every day and left the work site clean at the end of every day. Javier did not push for payments until that specific part of the project was completed. I contacted several contractors in the bay area for my project. Javier was the only one that replied back immediately. The others replied back days or weeks later. There prices were very expensive, but New Leaf Landscape was very competitive. I hired New Leaf to install pavers in my backyard. I wish I could post a picture here to show you the result. The backyard is absolutely stunning. The workers showed up on time and didn't leave a mess. I was given a timeline and it was completed exactly as stated. I did my research and New leaf is Bonded with Workers comp insurance.
