Really expensive. I only got a blunt cut trim on my long hair. No hair wash. No styling. No blow dry. The trim was fine but it cost $60.

I went to Emily for my perm. She is very sweet and her customer service is great! She's quick to respond to emails and phone calls, she offered snacks and coffee/tea during the perming process, and she provides a little table for you to bring your food because it can take up to 3-4 hours. She also let me know beforehand that I can watch movies or do work on my laptop. Overall, highly recommend! read more

Going to a new stylist is always a bit nerve-wracking, but Emily quickly put me at ease. She's warm, friendly, and made every effort to ensure my experience was great. I mentioned that thermal reconditioning can make my hair look a little flat for the first few days, so Emily trimmed my hair in a way that gives it more movement and volume. I'm so pleased with the results, it looks so much fuller and healthier. I also appreciated New Look's measures to maintain Covid safety. Emily is GREAT! I've searched a lot of salons in Seattle area and this is the closest one I can find to do digital perm. She is patient, trying her best to understand what you want. She is also honest, telling you what is practical and what the final result will look like. She spent the whole five hours on me! Everything looks professional. Instead of trying to sell me a lot of products, she gave me many advice about how to maintain the curl. She even gave me a brand new hair cream for free. When I mentioned that I will give her great reviews on yelp(I actually found this place on yelp), she looked very happy and told me that she was always embarrassed to ask ppl to do that. Emily is a lovely stylist -- thoughtful, flexible, and incredibly skilled. She does a great job not only with the services she provides, but also with all the logistics running the salon. It was apparent to me even from my first phone consultation with her that she has impeccable attention to detail. She asks all the right questions and will even do expert stylist techniques to learn more about your hair (i.e. finding out how well it takes a curl, or finding your natural part wherever you part your hair) so that your treatment will be personalized to what you want and what is best for your hair. I got a digital perm from her last weekend. I didn't have a lot of availability, but she was able to see me in the morning on Sunday (by appt. only) even though it was Mother's Day. She was very communicative about the process and what I should expect, as this was my first perm. She told me I should bring something to read and maybe even a snack, as the process would take about 4 hours. I liked that she is very socially aware. If you're a talkative person she is happy to chat, but if you're tired or not feeling talkative, she will not keep making small talk unless you want her to. And during the process, it's obvious that she knows exactly what to do. She works very efficiently yet carefully. She is truly such a friendly person and made me feel comfortable even though this was my first hair treatment. She gave me some great tips and told me everything I needed to know. I imagine New Look is great with hair. They must be, because what I experienced was so horrible I cannot imagine people regularly going to them for any salon treatments without an angry mob pitchforking the place into the ground. This is really my failure, fellow Yelpers. I spent a goodly amount of time researching the best place to go get my brows and lashes tinted, and I was also due for a brow wax. After mulling over a place in Ballard and another in Georgetown, my evening plans changed, and I was either going to wait a week, or find someone in Wallingford. I figured, how hard is it to dye a bit of facial hair? It's hard. And painful. And god help me, hopefully not scarring. After inquiring if they were available for these services when I walked in, a girl lead me to the back and had me lay down. Without any preamble, she whipped out her supplies and was ready to tackle my blonde features. I stopped her and asked if maybe I should remove my mascara before she tried to dye them, and after a moment's consideration (really??) she pointed to the bathroom and told me to wash my face. The tiny bathroom had a sink and some hand soap, and when I asked her if she had any makeup remover or something besides hand soap, she sighed and had me lay down again before swabbing at my eyes with some cold liquid that took way too much rubbing to be makeup remover. I told her I wanted natural colored brows, and dark lashes. She began, and I couldn't help wondering if everyone's experience was like this - having a tiny paintbrush crammed and jabbed in your eyeball repeatedly for 15 minutes straight. How many coats does it take? And why was she trying to dye my irises? After awhile she moved on to my brows, which was relaxing enough. The problem was that after letting a coat dry for about 5-10 minutes, she would come back and scratch at my eyebrows with one of her nails, and then swab some chemical all over it to remove the dye. She would then check the color, determine it wasn't dark enough, and repeat the process, with a healthy dose of paintbrush-in-eyeball torture in between. Now, I'm not a prissy girl. It takes pains to be beautiful, and all that. But after the third dose of the eyeball jabbing, the dye started stinging my eyes, BAD. Even worse, the skin under and around my eyebrows was so senstive from the scratching, and very harsh chemical she kept swabbing, that it felt like an iron was being held to my face. Tears ran down my cheeks uncontrollably, and I sat there, shuddering and trying not to make a scene, while she fussed and couldn't figure out why I was in pain. Finally, she pulled away and said "I don't know if it's dark enough for you, what do you think?" I tore out of that seat as though my face was on fire - well, it kinda was - ran into the bathroom I had scorned ninety minutes ago, and threw my face under the faucet as though my life depended on it. The end result? She said she misunderstood and thought I wanted light brown lashes (which they, um, already are naturally) so she was reapplying to make it darker. She also said she didn't think to check how my skin would react to "all the chemicals" she put on my eyebrows. My lashes look pretty much the same, although I have a dark rim of brown stained into the skin like a messy child's hand drew eyeliner on my face, and lovely brown tear-tracks down my face. My eyebrows are red, puffy, and six hours later they are STILL pulsing in pain. My face effing hurts. It is stained all over, messy, and even when that eventually goes away, the lashes look nearly the same. This was the single most painful salon experience of my life - including getting my ladybits waxed. In the salon's defense, the girl who worked on me seemed apologetic and very embarrassed, and only charged me for the eyebrow wax she insisted on doing after the dying mishap. I imagine if I had been there for a digital perm or something, I would have had a different experience. But, I didn't. Save yourself the red blotchy brows and puffy brown tear tracks, and NEVER get anything tinted here. My guess is they were never taught how to do this, but bought the supplies and maybe didn't think to distinguish between chemicals-for-hair, and chemicals-that-should-never-touch-delicate-facial-skin. I'd rant more, but my iboprofen is wearing off and the angry eyebrows are getting angrier. read more

I made an appointment here after google searching "balayage seattle" and noticing that a blonde lady with very beautiful hair had written a review about how wonderful her experience was. When I called to make the appointment, I clearly stated that I would like to do a full and not partial balayage and that I had medium to long hair length. I arrived to my appointment 15 minutes early and waited as she meticulously spent her time cutting another gentlemen's hair. After waiting half an hour, she approached me and without introduction, ran her fingers through my hair. Then explained to me that she couldn't work on my hair today because it would take at least 3 hours and the store closes at 7 (it was 4:45 PM). My response: Why didn't you let me know ahead of time when I called and made my appointment? Or immediately after I came in before I waited 30 minutes? I got a digital perm a while back (I think November 2010). I got one in Korea a few years before then and wanted to get one here in Seattle. I looked online and saw two close to UW. I picked this one based on the pricing I saw online. Emily was really nice. I looked through her book of photos to pick which one I liked, and the curls turned out well. At first it was more curly than expected but she assured me that it would calm down after a few washes, which was true. Emily is amazing. Honest, and diligent in her work. I've received so many compliments on my hair, it's ridiculous. I initially called to get a Digital perm. Emily checked my hair and suggested I wait a couple of months since I dyed it not too long ago. I came back about a month earlier than she suggested because well, I'm impatient. The Salon closes at 7, but she agreed to do the digital perm for me at 6 p.m as that was the only time I could make it, although digital perming takes around 4 hours. I ended up getting a cold perm instead as it was more in line with the types of curls I wanted. Emily was the perfect amount of conversationalist without the overbearing-ness. She left me to my book when she saw I was reading. After the perm was done, she gave me a curl-styling cream for free. The perm was amazing "right out of the box". I've permed my hair before, and it usually takes a couple of weeks for it to iron out and look natural. I was ready to spend my first few weeks looking like an old grandma with her overpermed hair but surprisingly it was not the case at all. My hair isn't as dry and hay-like as it was with my first perm either. My husband came here for a haircut at my suggestion, and he loved it as well. He said he could see the kind of care and pride that Emily takes in her work. I wish we had found out about this place earlier and avoid all the expensive & bad haircuts/hair stuff we had for the past 7 years. We'll be moving across the States soon, but I'm still going to make this my main salon as we'll be visiting Seattle often as we have family here. read more

I recently got a digital perm here and was really impressed with the quality! Emily was careful not to damage my hair, which had highlights from a previous salon visit. The perm turned out amazing! I now have the loose spiral curls that I use to spend almost an hour in the morning trying to achieve and now they occur effortlessly. It was a very time consuming process, so I would suggest bringing a snack, as it took nearly 4 hours. However, Emily was always offering my fresh cold water and a new magazine, and never failed to continue checking up on me. It's short because I cut it too short on my own, but she worked with it and the way she cut it, it'll grow out pretty. Great place to get your nails done too! I stop in here once every 6 weeks or so to get my eyebrows done (never needed an appointment, they do a great job, and it's only $10!) and, since I was going to a fancy dinner tonight, I decided to stop in to see if they had time for a mani/pedi. They did, and before I knew it, I was in the chair and they were getting to work. It doesn't look like they do a lot of nail services, since they don't have pedicure chairs - just a really comfy chair and a soaking tub with jets they bring out for your feet but it worked out fine and I was very comfortable. I like that they did my manicure at the same time - I wasn't in a time crunch but it was nice to feel pampered. I didn't have any hands left to read a magazine, but the stack right next to me was filled with the latest issues, so that's a plus for future pedicures. They did a great job, paying careful attention to detail, constantly making sure I was comfortable, and making nice conversation. I also got some pretty amazing hand and foot massages! In less then 45 minutes I was done and and out the door. $35 for both, plus a nice tip for taking good care of me. Also, as I was paying, I noticed they were scrubbing out the foot bath and restocking the cart - I like knowing that I'm getting clean or new products. The place is so clean and the women who work there are very nice...quick, clean, comfortable, and in my opinion, on the cheaper side. I've paid double the price for mani/pedis in Ballard and the work is pretty much the same. If I didn't have such a great stylist elsewhere, I might consider getting my hair done here as well, but I'll definitely be back for all my eyebrow and nail needs! read more

I regret to inform you how happy I am with Emily's services because I fear you might all go :) I have had a great experience with my two visits to New Look Beauty Salon. I first went to the salon to get a digital perm after reading her great reviews. However, when I went in, she let me know that my hair (which is very fine, thin, blonde hair) wouldn't take a perm well. She said it probably wouldn't be very curly, and it might result in some damage to my hair since the strands are so fine. I was very happy with her honesty. I got a hair cut and later rescheduled for a balayage. I wanted to get the balayage done before my wedding (about 4 weeks out) and was only available on weekends. She came in early, at 8:30am, to get me into her busy schedule. I don't have any color in my hair and hadn't done any treatments previously. Emily was very careful to make the balayage look very natural since it was my first coloring. She did such a good job integrating my new highlights with my natural highlights that it's hard to tell the difference between the two. My hair looks as if it would if I spent lots of time outside through the natural bleaching process. I was so impressed. Emily definitely puts her customers' happiness over her own profit. Two other things that really impress me about her: 1) She never tries to sell me product, 2) She takes reservations via e-mail, which is great with my busy work schedule. read more

Emily is AMAZING! She did a Liscio Japanese hair straightening treatment for me. I have thick/wavy/frizzy/poofy hair. The first try at the treatment worked about 85% I would say. I called Emily and asked if she could do a touch-up and she was able to schedule me right away and fixed it gratis :) The process takes a long time, so I really super appreciated all of her meticulous work. I now have pin straight, shiny hair and it's so much easier to manage. She also cut my hair as well. Emily is super friendly and has been running the place for about 13 years, so she really knows what she's doing. She made sure I was comfortable the whole time too. There's a lot of free parking available nearby, so that was really nice. Definitely come here if you want to permanently straighten your hair! Worst hair appointment ever and big mistake randomly choosing this place after reading some reviews. Emily is a nice lady but doesn't understand English as well as I assumed nor understands directions. When I said I'd like my hair length long below my shoulder to keep it long, she cut all my hair above the shoulder in one single butcher cut in the middle of coloring my hair, without any warning or asking me what length I actually wanted. She had said she would cut my hair after coloring it so I thought we would talk first about the desired length before cutting. I had no control on how much hair was cut (about 5 plus inches) Then she added very uneven layers making it look even worse. The original hair color she picked was almost blond, when I said to match my natural Asian black color hair. She then curled my hair at the end without asking. Needless to say, I feel very traumatized and violated by the experience and have to live with and wait a long time to grow out the bad hair cut. read more

Emily is great with digital perms and she is such a perfectionist at what she does. She is so sweet and fed me almonds, yogurt and coffee during me four hour visit. She listens to my concerns and is very careful with my cowlicks when she perms around them to not break off. It's still not a cheap service but it's definitely more affordable then lots of places in Seattle that offers digital perms. This is my second time to have Emily do my perm. I got a digital perm here a few weeks ago and I am loving it. This is my first time going to New Look Beauty Salon but my second time getting this particular type of perm. New Look not only did a better job but was cheaper ($150 for hair past the shoulders) than the previous place where I had my hair done. The salon is nothing fancy (compared to places like Seven or Gene Juarez) but is very clean. The lady that did my hair was nice, extremely quick, and paid close attention to detail. My only issues were that it took an hour (but I haven't gotten my hair cut in a while so maybe that's normal) and it cost more than I expect (I was thinking maybe $30 and it ended up being $40), but that was all well and good because it is cheaper than everywhere else I've been. Emily is a genius with color and cut. She is also a sweet, sweet lady! My hair is ridiculous, fine and thin and getting frowsy with white hairs creeping in. It has a stupid wave that looks like a sad perm, neither curly nor straight. I have never found anyone who could make my hair look nice, just basic. Just a blunt cut, and they want me to cut it all off. I'm enjoying longer hair! Emily colors it and gives it a lightly layered trim. It has movement and body now! She is a true master of hair. I tried a digital perm, thinking I would get lovely banana-size curls that would just appear on their own as my hair dried. I'll NOT try that again, as it didn't work on me. Just stripped the color and gave me a bunch of yucky split ends and stressed hair cuticles. But Emily put the color back in and trimmed my hair.
