All you gourmands can say what you will, but where are you going to find this much delicious food for under $20? Inquiring minds want to know. When it comes to cheap eats, I prefer Chinese over other carbs because I can get vegetables with my food and still pretend like I'm being healthy. There's one of these places in every decently sized town and New Mei Garden is no exception: unassuming, plainly decorated with a sign straight out of the 90's? I'm there. After an Uber Eats fiasco where the delivery drivers played hot potato with my order on a rainy night--I recently moved to Braintree and apparently delivery from a restaurant 4.5 miles away is a no-go--I picked up the phone and called for pickup. Things were dire. I was hangry. This hit the spot. I got the hot and sour soup and the beef with green beans and pork fried rice combo platter. It was fast and fresh; the green beans were nice and crunchy and the fried rice had that wok hei flavor I can never get in my homemade version. I picked up within ten minutes of placing the order. Be advised that there is a $15 minimum if you're paying with a credit card. read more

I ordered takeout here a few weeks ago. The COVID-19 pandemic is going on right now so I've been nervous to even go out to get food but this place is doing it right. I ordered my food online (love places I don't have to call) and chose to pick it up. They do deliver too. I paid online which is a huge plus not to have to use cash or hand over my credit card. Pickup was great. I went in and they had everyone's orders on a table with your order number written on it. Zero contact pick up. I got veggie fried rice. Loaded with broccoli, green French beans, carrots and egg. I would of liked some peppers and onions in there but it was still very tasty. I also got chicken wings and chicken fingers. Delicious!! I'll definitely be back here when I'm in the mood for Chinese food. read more

My new favorite takeout Chinese spot in Braintree. I don't expect a lot from American Chinese food- I need it to satisfy a craving. The General Gaos was perfectly done. Scallion pancakes were not burnt wafers. Crab Rangoons had decent amount of filling. Finally, the hot and sour was nicely balanced. read more

This review is based only on my experience and is not influenced by the previous reviews/photos. Saying that, I would have hesitated in regards to ordering from them had I seen them! I ordered delivery and it came very quickly and the service was friendly. I ordered pan fried dumplings: texture, flavor, quantity was as expected. Wonton soup was yummy and happily surprised me with the number of wontons and plentiful veggies. General Gau's baby shrimp with boneless ribs and pork fried rice was good; the batter could have been crispier, but the flavor was tasty. The pork fried rice was alright and the boneless ribs were good, not dry. Sesame chicken was also good, since the pieces were cubed the chicken was thicker and not as tender, but it was still flavorful and not overly saucy. read more

Visiting Friends in Braintree, we decided to order some food. Egg Rolls were pretty good as was the Chicken Fingers, Crab Rangoons and the Lo Mein. The Fried Shrimp was a little too greasy for my tastes and I did take a star off for that but the big thing that sets this restaurant apart from others is how FAST their delivery service is. We didn't even wait 10 minutes to get our food! Summary: Fast delivery and decent if not good Chinese Food makes this the must go to place in Braintree for Chinese Food. read more

Ordered combination plates, just because I ordered two of the same in a THREE appetizer plate, was charged more at my door without manners. Explanation didn't make sense, was yelled at in my hall to "Not talk to him about it!!!" Called, was probably just as rude. Was told to "look at the menu/receipt" because I wrote on the notes "Extra duck sauce". Was told that I wrote double double fingers. I didn't, I even have my receipt. Very tasty and well worth the prices for their portions! I moved to Braintree from Quincy (Chinese food in Quincy sucks except for Cathay Pacific), and the food from Mei Garden was superb. Aaahhhh... chinese take-out.... you are so bad, yet so so good. The food at Mei Garden is average. There are a few better places in the area(Tikki palace) and some that are not as good. What is good about this restaurant then you ask.... they are super super fast delivery. Im talking at your house in 15 minutes and nice to you on the phone and in person. There is a $2 delivery charge (which is normal) and they deliver until 10:30pm daily. A few things that I have enjoyed: Teriyaki beef, Beef low mein, general gau's chicken. Here from Chicago and thought I would order some of the basics from this place Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Chicken wings, and Beef Fried Rice it was all bland the best thing was the fried chicken. The rest of it I literally threw in the garbage, it was horrible. The Shrimp Egg Foo Young was separated from the gravy it had a funky taste. Worst chinese food ive ever had in my life and thats saying alot because everyone knows chinese can be hit or miss sometimes. The chicken fingers were wwwwaaaayyyyy over cooked. The outsides were so dry it was like plaster. Chicken inside was dark brown. Out or so chicken fingers that came in the box 3 were edible. Beef teriyaki was rubber on a stick. I could barely bite into it. Ended up taking it off the stick and trying to cut a piece off with a knife, then gave up when i could barely chew it. Pork strips were atleast edible, they just didnt taste fresh at all. Pork fried rice was the only thing i thought was good, but that might just be that i was hungry and it was the only thing i really ate out of all the food i got. For a suburban Chinese restaurant, this place is actually quite decent; I've had a large enough sample of their food and others to compare. This place is somewhere between actual Chinatown food and your typical suburban joint of yesterday. They have the "traditional" American-Chinese stuff (which is actually decent) and more authentic dishes. Haven't had a bad meal here, so kudos to them. read more

This is a regular spot for me every few weeks when I'm in the mood for Americanized Chinese food. It's always takeout orders for me. They have the most spectacular Chicken in Garlic Sauce dish... must get it with white rice. I also find they have the best Pork Fried Rice in the south shore. Food here is very inconsistent. Occasionally something is good (not great) but often it lacks flavor. I'll only order soup or egg rolls here. On several occasions I received grey "chicken" and grey "beef." I wouldn't recommend wasting your money taking a chance here when you can get a fantastic meal across the street at Cafe Asiana. read more

Charged order and when handed charge receipt, noticed the charge had been rounded up an additional .39. Called immediately and told Jay, a server, that I had not authorized that additional amount. (There is a $2 delivery charge that was already included). After a short time, he came back and said that one of the menu items was wrongly priced online (even though the receipt attached to charge slip showed the first price I was quoted). At times good, but inconsistent overall, Mei Garden is nonetheless a convenient place to go when you need takeout food. Prices are very good and some of the dishes aren't bad at all (the Singapore noodle can be excellent here). This is the only negative review I have ever written, but this place was terrrrible! Moo Goo Gai Pan chicken was so slimey and the chicken was more the consistency of noodles. I was going to take it back but my roommate ran it down the garbage disposal before I could even do it. Very disappointing, and not cheap. $25 for the Moo Goo Gai Pan and some rubber chicken teriyaki and some bad ham fried rice. Not recommended! read more

Typical Chinese restaurant. We moved to the area and they were slightly better than the rest. Shrimp rice fried always had minimal shrimp and very small, but the broccoli brown sauce, crab ragoon, and fried rice was good/average. The lo mein was consistently greasy. The issue is always the owner's wife, who is the face. She is always nasty, it doesn't matter how seemingly friendly you are or how often you order. One time, they were short staffed and she delivered to our home, and she looked shocked and literally said "you live here?".. cue shock that our family could own a decent home. Anyway, I got past her attitude. On NYE I preordered $300+ worth in food the day before. There was a mix up with part of the order (the son took 50 pieces to mean 50 orders and an order comes with 2 pieces)... owner's wife comes RUNNING OUT BEHIND THE BACK SCREAMING DEMANDED TO GO INTO OUR CAR AND PROCEEDED TO RUN OUT ASK MY HUSBAND TO OPEN THE DOOR AND STARTS OPENING PANS OF FOOD AND TAKING STUFF OUT. IT WAS GROSS! The display of food handling, the fact that we offered to pay the overage so they didn't take the hit, and the assumption that we were somehow driving off when I was still there and paying. To add insult to injury, I calmly told her it was a misunderstanding and we frequent this place and I was shocked that she responded " we're done. Next." I was not only angry but saddened by this display as a community member and gazed at all the awards they've won and will NEVER EVER EAT FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN!! EVER! Wow! I love this place! My family and I order from this place by chance, now we do so regularly. We stumbled across it looking for some good cheap eats. We found New Mei Garden. The Singapore rice noodles adds just the right amount of spice and flavor. My all time favorite. Also great if you're gluten free. We also love the hot and sour soup. Loaded with yummy stuff, not too hot or sour. Just right by me! Sometimes we get the Beef fried Chow Fun noodles, a very good dish. Not too salty or loaded with brown sauce. This time around we ordered the Beef with peppers and onions which came with white rice. De-licious! Will be become "regulars"...YOU BET!! Go for exquisite Chinese food at Bernard's in Chestnut Hill (The Street) and -yes, I know it is not in the neighborhood-and then eat at Mei Garden....So awful. Better off buying PF CHANG in your freezer section and making Chinese at home. Everything from MEI tasted the same: No hint of Chinese 5 Spice powder, Star anise or touch of chili spice.
