Every single dish at Suerte was completely worth it. The family-style ordering was great because my partner and I got to delight in each dish together. The portions were clearly intentionally sized: nothing too big, but also nothing too small. And each bite had us both sitting and often closing our eyes to fully experience the food. We spent just as much time not talking as we did talking. The food did a lot of talking for us And when we were talking, it was either to one another, or to our server, Jake. Lemme tell ya, knocked it out of the park. His timing was on point. He never hovered, and he practically appeared out of nowhere when our need for him arose. I literally said to him at one point: "your timing is impeccable!" He was delightful, funny, knowledgeable, and very easy to converse with. Our visit would have been wonderful with the food alone, but Jake made the experience particularly memorable. Thank y'all - especially Jake and the chefs - for such a wonderful (and rare for us) date night.

It took so long for our food to arrive that we were already full from sharing a little over one small basket of chips amongst three of us. They charge $2 + tax for the chips and salsa, but it is very worth it as there are unlimited refills. However, they did not refill the salsa until we finally asked, which was fine, but then they also didn't refill the chips which were almost gone as well. The tortilla chips were very thick, which we thought was so unique. We really enjoyed them. My friend asked the hostess afterwards how they make the chips, and she just laughed in response. I got the chipotle pineapple chicken tacos, which were very good. I really enjoyed the sauce and the chicken. The rice was normal. The beans, however, were very liquid-like and did not taste good. They were so watery. My friends shared the chimichurri carne bowl, which I guess says in the description that it's a meat bowl, but they were surprised it didn't come with anything else like rice or beans. They said the steak was good, and the shrimp and chicken were fine. The food was good overall, but the service was so slow and inattentive that it made for a poor dining experience. I think the server forgot about us at the end because we waited quite a while while she kept walking by us, and we finally just went inside to the front to ask to pay the bill.

I ordered the sweet potato toast thats sweet potato slices topped with tomato, guac and egg style of choice. I should have added bacon but thankfully my fiancé went with the traditional breakfast that came with a ton. I added a stolen piece of bacon and proceeded to inhale it. It was so good. His breakfast was massive and we both really enjoyed the food and the service. It's beautiful inside here too. Will be back!

The restaurant looks brand new despite being here a few years. The decor was bright and colorful making the sunny day outside even better. We were seated inside as the outside patio does not have shade, so sad. But the view from the table was amazing. I can imagine an evening sunset seating. Had to try the Black and White as it was a mix of espresso and their homemade (vegan) horchata. That drink was amazing...if you're on the fence, just try it. We started with the flautas, crispy and great seasoning on the meat. I went with the ACHIOTE & CITRUS CHICKEN, quarter size, dark meat and it was great. The nice part about the wood fire section is you can choose how much and it makes it easy to share. The accompaniments, charro beans, rice, and grilled onions were all cooked and seasoned well. We also tried the churro split which was a lot...yet tasty. Definitely will be back or try one of their other locations. The restrooms are unisex and they are fabulous! The space was so bright and the window looking out gave a great view. I also really enjoyed that the local showing vacant/occupied were on both sides of the door. So no wondering if it shows correctly to the outside world.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

With all the fantastic Mexican places in the Austin area, I probably wouldn't go back. But that doesn't take away from the fact that I enjoyed my visit here. Our service was fantastic. Server was super sweet and gave us great service and the place was clean and good great atmosphere but the food was garbage. Maybe it was late in the day or something but I mean this to the fullest extent, Taco Bell or Taco Cabana would have been better options. We had queso as an appetizer and should have ran for the exit at that point. It was warm milk with a side of Pico de gallo. Zero flavor, like I lost my sense of taste during covid kind of flavor. We stayed because the kids were starving so they ate the chips and salsa. We ordered the beef fajitas, what came out was soggy small chopped up beef chunks swimming in oily onions and bell peppers. It was terrible. It looked like the inside of a cheap gas station Philly Cheesteak. I know meat, I grill A LOT. I honestly can't tell you what cut of meat the fajitas were but it damn sure wasn't skirt steak. Maybe highly processed minced chuck, it was bad. I really wish I would have taken pictures. My wife had a taco salad with salty beef that had some weird dressing on it with a few beans and corn at the bottom of some lettuce. That was probably the best thing. The kids chicken quesadilla was stuffed with dried out marinated chicken thighs soaked in grease (how the hell do you dry out chicken thighs) that didn't even smell appealing and tasted worst then they smelled. I'm not here to complain, this may be my first food review I've ever done. I don't send stuff back or cry to managers, I just don't go back to places I don't like. I guess enough people like this place to keep it in business. Or maybe it was an off night. I did see much better looking fajitas on yelp pictures and they may be going downhill or shrinkflating, who knows. I post this to warn other people to lower your expectations if you plan on coming here. Like really low. I wish I would have saved my hundred and something dollars and gone to Taco Bell for some crunchy taco supremes or some fajitas and queso from taco cabana, both would have run circles around this place
