I want to love New Moon - The vibe is great and it is not a chain. However - to wait for half an hour for a small salad that consists of some greens and a little tomato is silly. The smoothies do not use fresh fruit - otherwise I would have ordered that. They really need to work on lunch if they are going to be open for lunch. read more

The ham and cheese quiche was great. The crab bisque was good, but was missing...something. The place is too small and crowded for my taste. Felt like there was nowhere to wait for your food. My friends and I enjoyed our lunches, croissants, and coffee. We took them away from the crowds and ate at the Hopeland gardens. Which was a perfect solution. read more

Probably the best restaurant in Aiken. Too bad they don't open late for dinner. If I didn't have to work so much, I probably would have had spent more time hanging out at the cafe. In contrast to the feel of the town (Aiken), New Moon Cafe has a bit of a hippi-ish feel to it. The first place that comes to mind is the UC Berkeley area. The panini sandwiches are delicious, the coffee is delightful, and the weekend breakfasts/brunches are what I lived for during my residency in South Carolina. They offered some pretty raw tasting parfaits, but they still tasted quite good. Their eggs Benedict entree was delicious, and their half soup half sandwich combinations were just the right blend. Some of the interesting things that they have there at the New Moon Cafe include the various types of beverages they offer; they offer sweet tea, green tea (sweet), and "anti-sweet tea" (which is just regular Lipton ice tea). Funny how sweet tea is such an integral part of Southern cuisine. read more

Great service. Had the Garcia and my wife had the tuna phish melt. I had the Asian Cole slaw as the side. Loved the slaw. The Panini's were nice but the bread that was used didn't really work. It was a great big chunk of bread, it makes it a cross between a panini and a rustic sandwich. read more

Very good! Stopped here on our way from charleston to Atlanta. 5 miles off of 20. Got the Cobert and the Tony Montana. Great sandwiches on what tasted like fresh bread. Also tried and liked gazpacho soup side and baked potato salad side. It's the type of place where you want to go back and try ten more things. The bagel chips are cut from big bagels! I love everything they do here, from the simple but awesome-generously portoned food, to the smiles on the faces of the frequantly bumbling staff (including the owner). So, though every visit i either have a loooong wait, or a completely wrong order, or a (not ignored but...) completely forgotten request, its crystal clear any and all mistakes are the result of carefree personalities and never apathy or malintent. We had a very good breakfast here. We ate outside and enjoyed the local happenings in downtown Aiken. The restaurant is small with about 8 tables inside and about 6 tables outside. You order at the counter and you get to see all the wonderful baked goods they have there. Very tempting but we ordered eggs. I had the egg sandwich on sour dough bread and my husband had the lumberjack breakfast which was scrambled eggs, bacon and sourdough toast. The bread is delicious. I guess it would be nice if you could get your eggs anyway, but they only come scambled. My husband's bacon was cooked perfectly, nice and crisp. And the coffee was very very good. We would love to return with our dog, sit outside and order one of their tempting baked goods and that wonderful coffee. read more

The healthy, wholistic vibe is bogus. Anything with "scrambled eggs" is powdered eggs (same color, bland flavor, and rubbery texture). The friend I was with had the same experience with a different menu item with "scrambled eggs", and had only 4 small pieces of vegetables in the egg and veggie wrap. read more

This place was my saving grace during my multiple work trips to Aiken. This cafe is the golden nugget of the downtown. The staff is incredibly friendly (I felt like a local immediately), the coffee is terrific: nitro cold brew, drip or lavender lattes. I would get a vegan fig bar every morning they had them - super tasty. Smoothies are good, food is good, people are good. This small town cafe is serving up some big flavor and doing it their way. Good food but bad coffee is right. Plus, it's sort of cramped in there- especially if there's a line. They have wireless but the only power outlet for your laptop is right next to the door....people brush up against you the entire time. Kind of annoying. read more

Line took 20 minutes to move because the cashier paid more attention playing with her coworkers and cursing under her breath than actually serving customer. Food was just OK. Could get the same quality food by going to Waffle House. Asked for butter for toast and was given one foil packet of butter. I thought this was the south, why wasn't I provided a tub of butter when i walked in the door? If you're willing to pay hipster prices for mediocre food that takes forever, this is the place. read more

The 'New Moon Cafe' has been in Aiken for over 26 years, and because of it's popularity, has opened several Cafe's in Augusta. We stop in at least once a week for lunch - their 'crab soup' is terrific. And don't underestimate their sandwiches, pastries, or drinks - the coffee is roasted right next door! Can't get any more fresh than that! It's what we used to call a 'funky' atmosphere, with the walls decorated with local artist's work abd catchy sayings; mismatched furniture; outdoor seating if you prefer it. They even keep water outside the door for your four-legged friend! In the 26 years we've been eating there, we've never had a bad experience! read more

Stopped in one morning while staying at the Carriage House Inn across the street, whose breakfast leaves something to be desired. This little gem is outstanding! I had Strawberry Jam Ricotta Sourdough Toast made with fresh local strawberries. OMG! This was lick your plate clean, although I didn't go that far. While $6 originally seemed high for two pieces of toast, the two pieces were huge and thick, practically covering the entire plate. Btw, coffee is also the best you will find in downtown. read more

As a visitor to Aiken I looked forward to the local coffee spot. The cashier seemed impatient and rolled her eyes at me as I was ordering. The cafe was not busy but my service was slow, it took more than 15 minutes to receive my mocha. Staff behind the counter played with the next order's cups placing hands and fingers on the rims. When it was served to me it was lukewarm. I asked for it to be heated it was spitefully hot and was not full. The barista did not pour it all back into my cup. I burned my mouth and tongue. It was an extremely disappointing experience. Every customer should be treated like you want return service. read more

Found some New Moon Cafe gift certificates from 2004 ($25.00). No expiration date. Went to the cafe and tried to redeem them. They said they would not honor them. I told them - nicely - I was pretty sure that they had to. And even if they didn't have to, they should honor them. The guy behind the counter went away for about five minutes. He came back and offered $15.00, a couple of cookies and a cup of coffee. Would you have accepted that offer? I did. read more

This is a cool little coffee shop/cafe. They have local artwork for sale inside the shop which is an awesome touch. The food is excellent, I recommend the crab bisque and the chocolate chip frappe! The only complaint I have is that the food service is slow so don't go here if you are in a hurry. Overall a great little spot for lunch! read more

I haven't been in a while ... and there's a reason. This place needs a good cleaning and more customer-focused staff. They used to have awesome scones. Then they replaced 'em with something called a fat rascal or a fat bastard. Whatever the name, it was too thick and was raw on the inside.
