This place rocks! Not only is it in the heart of downtown, it is the only place in Aiken that actually roasts their coffee beans onsite...well right next door. The smell of the beans roasting permeates the air and draws you in the door. Once there you find yourself inside a café/coffee bar/art gallery. The walls are covered with the art of local artists who display their work. My favorite spot to sit and enjoy my cup of coffee (and people watch) is at one of the patio tables located on the sidewalk as you walk in. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I'm new to town but we found this place on the best street in Aiken and have been regular customers for the past 5 months. My family and I frequent new moon at least once a week or more. Hi my name is Parinaz Serri and I am a regular at your aiken new moon store. We have been telling all our friends to go to your cafe for years we've lived here. First and foremost I want to begin with this is not a new problem. Your employee Laura (blond manager up front usually on weekends) is the rudest person I have ever met in my life. When we first encountered a few years ago she was snappy and kept rambling on about how you guys dont want any more business (this was after i asked how come you guys close at 5). This behavior was consistent every time we came in. We eventually started avoiding your restaurant when we saw her working. Today was the last straw. Its sunday 1:30pm we came in to grab a quick coffee. There was a line out the door. There were many people who were part of the evacuation who were there. Laura was running around yelling rudely saying things like "cant y'all read a damn sign, we've been closing for the past 20 yrs at 2 on sundays" "God damn" etc... at 1:50pm she closed and locked the door. Which is 10 mins before your closing time. My husband was already inside in line. I came in to join him. She rushed past me pushed my stroller and slammed the door. She then proceeded to yell "ughhhhh we're closed. You all cant just come in here as you please" She was clearly yelling at me and my baby daughter considering we were the only ones who entered. I turned to her and told her my husband is in line. She huffed and walked off. It continued. She rambled more and yelled at people who were just looking in through the door. When we approached the cash register i asked for the owners info and she told me to go on Facebook. I told her she was rude and she yelled back at me. Telling me she worked there for 9 years and that the owner is her best friend and will always back her up. Your other employees were embarrassed and and gave us an apologetic look. She then said "you all are regulars why dont you know we close at 2:00pm. Many of our friend have had similar experiences with the same employee and stopped going to your restaurant. We will never come to your establishment again. Evacuees were talking about how rude she was and they were in shock that a restaurant in such a humble town is like this. I got a cafe mocha and a bagel w/ sundried tomato creamed cheese. I loved the atmosphere of this place. It's great that they serve breakfast all day and the mocha they made me was really good. I grew up in Aiken and remembered that New Moon Cafe used to be a great place with wonderful food, not the case any more. The hipster service was typical, meaning there was none. You basically served yourself, and then when you pay at the counter, before you get your food, you are asked for a tip. I ordered the sherry cream of mushroom soup thinking it would be fresh mushrooms, they were fresh from a can. The place is small, crowded and loud. I am no prude, but I was a little embarrassed I brought my seventy year old mother there to grab a bite while Christmas shopping after I realized their was explicit music playing. To top the experience off the restrooms were appalling and in general the place seemed to need a good scrub all over. read more

I admit we were running late and arrived here 10 minutes before their closing time, although we didn't know that due to covid, businesses have changed their times. My concern is not their food or great coffees. It's the rude attitude of one of their staff. While customers are trying to enjoy their coffee, this person showed a lot of angst toward shutting down and cleaning up. It was uncomfortable and we felt like we were shoved out the door. Will NOT be returning to this establishment anytime soon! There are MANY MANY more coffee shops out there. read more

What a cute eclectic little cafe in Aiken. Came here for breakfast and ordered their grits w/ cheese and bacon, a breakfast burrito and their smoothie green monster. The grits so far has been the best I've had in the south, no joke. I've had grits in New Orleans but the one here at the new moon cafe was exceptionally very tasty. The green monster smoothie was delicious and refreshing. Great way to start the morning with a yummy shake. Coffee was very good as well, not too strong. Service was a tad slow but worth the wait. During Lent, I got a pimento grilled cheese sandwich. Today I tried a Cuban sandwich. It tasted like an authentic Cuban! New Moon also roasts their own coffee beans. Phenomenal!! The food and staff we're amazing. They have combinations I would never have thought to put together but it works. I had the Jalepeno popper on sourdough bread and I chose the Nuttella Fairy on wheat instead of white bread with beets power juice that had all kinds of good things in it. That was just for breakfast. I went back for lunch and had the crab bisque with the Italian grilled cheese and those are the biggest chunks of crab I had ever seen in soup. To drink, I ordered the mango coffee cherry soda; at first I thought "interesting", but it works. Another customer was bragging on the chicken noodle grits so I bought some to take home, can't wait to try it. If I'm ever in Aiken again I will definitely be back. Great job!!! New Moon; one of my favorite places to hang or meet friends. Love the coffee. Love the yogurt quinoa bowl. Also the egg and cheese breakfast croissant. They serve a big variety of excellent healthy food, including smoothies. It's totally cool, artsy, small, and crowded. Got noisy spots to sit in the middle of everything, quieter, out of the way tables around the corner in the back room, and the outside tables on the sidewalk in front. I would give it 5 stars except that it's sometimes too noisy and crowded for my comfort. read more

This is a cool little dive in Aiken. It has a really cool vibe. I was there during Masters week and I heard that is the only time they do shrimp and grits. The locals really look forward to this every year so I had to try them after I had eaten a hour before at Betsy's on the corner. They had really good flavor but they were a little more soupy than I prefer but they are definitely worth a try. I will go back and try a meal just because of the atmosphere. read more

Love the free-trade coffees. If they have it the crab bisque is amazing! My wife and I rarely eat there for lunch so can't really comment on that but we frequent there for breakfast. My wife loves the scones and muffins and I prefer the bagels and cream cheese. Again we both love there coffee; almost daily they have a roast for every taste. read more
