I grew up in olympia and am in town visiting. This was a great spot for a late breakfast. There was a bit of a wait but not bad considering how small this spot is. Everything was tasty and plentiful, my only concern was that it was freezing inside. I enjoyed my Amsterdam omelette with spinach, caramelized onions, tomato, organic avocado and smoked gouda with side of fried thyme tomatoes. The fried tomatoes could use a bit of salt. I wanted the chevre omelette originally but they were out of bacon. My friend ordered the halo breakfast sandwich and added cooked spinach and sausage. AMBIANCE: 3.5. Comfortable and well-worn interior. Can be loud due to the hard surfaces, but we were able to converse without problem. FOOD: 4.0. After ordering took about 20 minutes for food to arrive, which was fine. The dishes all looked perfectly cooked with good-quality fresh ingredients. - Northwestern Omelette: 4.0. Two of us had this omelette. Though one felt the salmon was a bit sparse, both agreed it tasted very good. - Amsterdam Omelette: 4.0. Very good. - Classic Breakfast with bacon: 4.0. - rye toast: 4.5. (2 of us chose rye toast with our omelettes): Really good, with melted butter. - fruit side: 4.0. (2 of us chose fruit side with our omelettes): Fresh and lucious. I love New Moon. The food is excellent. Truth be told, every town needs a diner for weekend breakfast. This is generally my go to. Service is good but expect to wait, even if a table your size is available. It appeared to me, they wouldn't seat smaller parties before larger parties, even if those tables were available. I presume this was an attempt to be fair with waiting time but it didn't make sense to wait for the same table along with another larger family. I pretty much love everything vegan they serve, though the hash browns need a makeover. I say this with love . They are too heavy and thick for me. Also, they don't serve ice. This is a great breakfast option whether you're a local or visiting from out of town. It's in walking distance to record stores, books stores, thrift stores and more. You only need to park once and you're good to go! We loved that it's a cooperative (employee owned and run) restaurant. You can also add some money to your final bill for their community fund which helps feed people in need. Lots of veggie, vegan, and carnivore options; something for everyone. Sweet and savory dishes aplenty. We opted for the vegan biscuits and mushroom gravy as well as the "Amsterdam" omelet. The biscuits and gravy were fantastic. The hasbrowns a were a little stringy, cooked a bit more well-done than most places, and they had a lot of oil left over in the plate - overall they were okay but not the best we've ever had. The omelet was yummy and appreciate that it came with fresh veggies and gruyere cheese...mmmm. I do wish their juice was fresh (vs bottled). Wanted to order a chai but they were out...next time! They also have coffee, regular tea, hot cocoa, and mimosas, however we just stuck with water. The space itself is a bit small and intimate, not the best for groups over 4 people. They do have some chairs outside to sit as you wait for a table to become available. A funky space with lots to keep you occupied while looking at the walls. Limited seating means you may need to wait a few minutes, but your stomach and soul will thank you if you do. The artwork on the walls add to the warm feeling of the room. Don't go too early in the morning because when the dining room is empty it takes a long time to warm up, so we were cold for our first half hour. We were the first customers of the day so we had our big coats on for the first 30 mins but once people started to file in, the room warmed up and the ambiance was much better. The food is okay. I got the eggs Benedict and it comes with tons of potatoes, so you won't leave hungry. The description says it comes with a hollandaise sauce, as Benedict's do, but they actually serve it with a cheese sauce which explains my disappointment. IHOP does this too which I hate because it's like they think we can't tell the difference, so I dropped a star just for that. Our server was really kind but he didn't check in us as much as he should, given we were the only customers at the time. Because of that he only asked if I wanted a coffee refill as I was about to leave. I did, but not right before I'm getting up to go. The design is nicer. This is the type of place where they put local artist's work in the walls to sell. Go to the bathroom though and it's kinda cool with the fake greenery draping the wall, but there's a lot of lefty messages in there so I felt a little worried that they might not like us because we're conservative, so we need to not talk about anything in the news. I wanted to like this place. I really did. Because they are clearly trying to be diverse and inclusive, and i like how openly queer friendly they are. We were there driving up on a road trip. First, the place was FREEZING - thru kept the doors open (probably safer), but yea, freezing. And they said they were out of their garlic rosemary potatoes....so we got other sides...but then, less than 3 minutes later, we hear another table order the rosemary garlic potatoes....which made us totally feels like the kid who was told there was no party because they weren't invited...but there really was a party for all of the cooler kids... So yea, they had it, but apparently it was too late to substitute it in....so the only option was to add on a side order.... The food itself was very mediocre - everything was very bland. While I liked the veggie sausage patty, I think this was the first time I've ever had to aggressive salt, uh, sausage. And those rosemary garlic potatoes? Quite disappointing. Three stars because I want to do my best to support queer friendly co-ops and stuff, just recognize that there is better food elsewhere. read more

As soon as we arrived, the front entrance immediately smelled like urine and had some homeless folks hanging out in front. We sat inside for about 10 minutes. Our orders were taken pretty quickly. But as we sat at the table looking around at the atmosphere, we began to notice it was very very dirty. The air filter on the floor was absolutely filthy. We came on Sunday morning at 10:00 on the dot! New Moon was crowded, but we were seated within 15 minutes. I called a few days previously to see if they take reservations. They do not :( I couldn't stay away from the Northwest Benedict and their mimosas. The Benedict I enjoyed had chard instead of the spinach, and it was better that way! I love that they have a hot sauce and condiments station. The only thing that I didn't like was the bathroom-it could have been cleaner. It is a little awkward to have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. The food, service and the people are really nice. It is well worth the stop, but come early! read more

This place has been on our oly to- do list forever! We had a rocky start - they told us it would be 20 minutes and then just forgot about us. We sat outside and after seeing other tables come and go we were finally seated after about a 45 min wait. They have a sign up saying they are short staffed and I'm not worried about waiting, but the inability to check in with folks and seat them in order is frustrating. Once seated, we looked over the menu and the server asked if we wanted any drinks. We said no and tried to order our food but they cut us off and said they would come back for food orders. It was another 15 minutes before they took our order. They were out of the first three menu options we tried to order. The tables surrounding us got their food before we did despite ordering after. It took 30 mins for our egg breakfasts to come out. My order came out incorrectly and had to be sent back. They didn't check in with us about how our food was, or if we needed anything extra. The food itself was fine, even tasty, but the experience was too poor overall for me to come back. The whole experience was two hours long. I don't mind waiting, I don't mind, I don't mind low staffing, I don't mind slow service. What bothers me is a total lack of awareness or apology such an lacking dining experience. The kids and I have been on a mission to find great breakfast places in the local area. I read the reviews, I have seen the lines, I heard from folks that the food is good. We did not have to wait and we sat quickly. It is a small seating area, music was playing - ordered up the food and that is where the disappointment began. I am feel like I came on an off day that or the people of Olympia have zero clue on good food. Food quality was basic, taste non existent, toast dunked in margarine, and display of food was sparse. We haven't been here since before Covid... we completely forgot how good their food is! The place isn't very big, so you sign your name on a paper outside to be put on the list. Don't worry... it's worth the wait! Their menu has both typical menu options as well as lots vegan options, they make their own biscuits (SO yum) and blackberry jam (available for purchase too!). We go there for breakfast, but after looking at the lunch menu, we might be back to visit at a later time next weekend. I got the Northwest Egg Benedict... it has smoked salmon (which they do not skimp on), tomato, spinach, in top of an English muffin and topped with Hollandaise (if you refer to photo, my personal preference is hollandaise on the side so I can poor myself... they give you more than what's pictured, fyi ) Let me tell you.. they poach their eggs to PERFECTION. My Benedict paired well with the garlic rosemary home fries. My husband's Beast Mode consists sausage, bell peppers and onions, sour cream, eggs, and home fries and a biscuit. Delicious and VERY filling. I highly recommend New Moon Cafe. The staff is great and the food is top notch. One of our favorite touches of this diner was the notepads on all the tables... you can spend all meal browsing the pages filled with all the doodles, notes, and random things from other patrons (or add to it!). Doesn't looks like much from the outside, and it's quite small inside so I wouldn't recommend a large group go hear but the food is out of this world good. I got the breakfast burrito it was a big portion but it was so good I ate all of it, no questions asked! The little bit of gravy with the sausage in it was such a good idea... must have a mastermind in the kitchen. This weekend we checked out New Moon's chill vibes and mimosa pitchers... mostly the mimosa pitchers, I'll be honest guys. It was clear that everyone else has heard about said mimosas because it had a bit of a wait for a table which my sister said was the norm. This restaurant is a tiny little place boasting big flavors, out of the box ideas, and fresh natural ingredients. A unique cooperative run business, it sources its ingredients from vendors providing equitable labor practices. You'll also find them supporting local photographers and artists, and in the know about cool Oly events. Despite the wait for a table, once inside they got the process rolling...or time just passes quickly with a mimosa in your hand..either way, service was friendly and the food just seemed to magically appear in front of me. The menu has lots of gf items to choose from for those of you that are with me in the ihategluten club. They have gf bread and can transform their sandwiches, toast, and even their french toast into a gf delight. When ordering I mentioned celiac to our server and I gave him a mental high five for immediately knowing that meant allergy precautions. I was craving some good buttery toast to pair with my mimosa and inquired about the toaster. They were awesome about problem solving and getting a girl some non contaminated toast by means of oven technology. My chevre omelette with silky avocado, fresh tomatoes and spinach was awesome with a side of crispy bacon. My sister let me paw at her northwest salad topped with local smoked salmon and a killer lemon tahini dressing. Her boyfriend devoured the beast mode. The husband had the biscuits and gravy and although he ordered sausage gravy he somehow got the mushroom vegan gravy and was not a fan. I keep trying to convince him that mushrooms=delicious; however, he is certain that mushrooms= dirt... what can one do? The food was fresh and tasty, prices are competitive and service was friendly. Came here for the reviews and the food looks pretty good. Decided to stop in and upon waiting for about 15 and have people seated ahead of us. We decided that the judgement and volume of the establishment wasn't going to be worth the wait to either eventually get seated or have another group get seated ahead of us. First of all I have to admit the food was AMAZING! However, the service was not. We were so excited to try this place as vegan & queer customers. One server sat us and was super friendly. Than the other server came over and barely said two words and barely made eye contact. I thought maybe they were just having a bad day (as a server bartender for 15+ years we all have those days) so my wife and I tried to be overly kind and patient. But it kept going down hill. What was most upsetting is that I was observing our server being kind and cozy with their other tables and for whatever reason didn't give two about us. When we got into the place we took the only table open that was freezing and closest to the door. Four tables opened up and before we had food or anything on the table I kindly asked if we could move to another table since we were shivering and we're just told condescendingly "I prefer you not." So we sat back down and kept shivering while the other tables remained open. After our food was dropped off the server didn't stop once at our table. I was out of water for over half the time and we were both out of coffee. Nobody asked us how the food was tasting. When they finally did stop they put the receipt on the counter and walked away without eye contact before we could ask kindly for more water. I think our experience would've been one hundred times better if we would have had the other server. Or if for whatever reason our server treated us with the same respect they did their other customers. Once again being in the service industry I'm annoying patient and sweet to the server wherever I go. And I typically tip over 20% but I felt so degraded I barely could give one. read more

Inside looked dingy as well. It used to be cozy and eclectic. Now it just seems disarrayed and disappointing. We started to go in and changed our minds. Interesting little place. Walking into the restaurant we had to weave through some homeless people malingering in front of the restaurant. The outside smell of urine and cigarette smoke wasn't very pleasant either. Inside the restaurant is very small so when sitting down you will likely sit next to some more homeless people that are napping, at least that's what we experienced. It's also VERY dirty inside! There were bug flying everywhere, the walls are dirty, everything hanging in the walls is dirty, there are cob webs EVERYWHERE. Even the air purifier is covered in some black substance. This used to be one of my favorite places for eggs Benedict. No more! I received two of the tiniest eggs, which were both grossly over cooked. Zero liquid yolk. The hollandaise sauce had no citrus whatsoever and was pasty and bland. I don't think the English muffin was even toasted.
