New Moon is a favorite spot for some of my Yelp peeps and it's been on my list. My friend and I had tickets to the movie theatre up the street and decided to meet here for a drink and a snack. The place is quite popular and parking can be difficult. The lot was full but I found a spot down the street. The ladies at the front desk were friendly and pointed me in the right direction to the bar, which has very cool artwork on the wall. Our server Garrett was delightful. He was so sweet. We both ordered vodka martinis and shared the Vegetable Pot Stickers. Garrett brought us some crispy wonton strips to munch on while we waited. They were addictive, especially dipped in the plum sauce. The Vegetable Pot Stickers were pan seared. They had a nice texture and the vegetable filling was tasty. Apparently, it was prom night and we enjoyed watching the young ladies walk in dressed in decadent dresses. Our delightful evening ended with a fortune cookie half dipped in chocolate. Checked out New Moon for a nice Chinese dinner. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. There's some street parking but they also have a parking lot. There's a separate area for a bar with some lounge seating. Not so busy on a Tuesday night, we were sat right away. They have a large menu and prices are a little on the higher side. We started off with some calamari for our appetizers. Light batter, nicely salted, and plenty of jalapeños. For our main dishes we went all out- Mongolian beef Chicken with jalapeños Chloe's shrimp Hunan spicy garlic shrimp Vegetable chow mein All were very tasty but the BEST was the Hunan spicy garlic shrimp. I really like their food. I always get it to go, and they get the orders right. If you have a special request, they will respect it. I am gluten free and always mention it. If you want something included (I always want snow peas or bok choy in my food) or left out (no bell peppers please) they will fix your dish the way you like it. The people at the front desk are polite, kind and welcoming. There is free parking, but if it is full you can park on the street. Some people think the prices are high, but to me it is worth it to get exactly what I want. Portions are large and I always have leftovers. Try it! read more

I came by here to pickup food for my friends while they were visiting at Glendale Adventist hospital ICU. I didn't try the food myself so I can't say if it was good or not but I could see those in the waiting room were famished and they ate everything I bought for them. I reviewed their menu before driving in that direction and placed the order over the phone 20 minutes out so I didn't have to wait too long for my order. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad, Lo Mein, fried rice, mapo tofu, and garlic chicken with spinach. The restaurant was quite big with also a bar on the other side with a TV to watch sports games. They also have seating outside. There is parking in the rear but only five spaces so you'll need to park in the street which is plentiful. It's modern and spacious inside. read more

We don't always pair a visit to Descanso Gardens with a dinner at New Moon, but we often do that and it's always a great meal experience. Last weekend we had taken Sweet Granddaughter with us to see the tulips and other spring blooms, and had already decided on New Moon for after. It was warm enough to sit outside, which delightful. The staff took good care of us and our varied requests. We started with Wally's Shrimp; always a delight. Won Ton Soup was plentiful enough to satisfy us then, plus lots of leftovers. SG is in her noodle era, so Chicken Chow Mein was a must. She loved it, plus the crispy fried won ton strips (free starter). She even ate some broccoli - score! Dear Hubby and I shared some of everything, plus their Pork Fried Rice. New Moon's recipe and prep style takes me back to my childhood and several of the Chinese restaurants that my dad took the family to back then. When they say generous portions, they mean it! We came here last night after trick or treating around Montrose. We were with about 6 families with tons of kids. The food was pretty good, we ordered kung pau shrimp, hunan shrimp (really good!), mongolian beef, ribs, beef salad and a few drinks. All the food was good and the portions are family style, so enough to go around. I really liked how accommodating they were. They put up with all the kids, which included a broken glass and crazy boys. They were also playing the dodger game, which was cool. I had never been here before but can tell why this place has been a Montrose staple for years. Loved it, definitely worth coming back. read more

I worked with the manager Nikki to reserve for a party of 28 to celebrate my parent's 50th yr anniversary. Nikki was super responsive and accommodating. Everything went super well and our server James was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the food including sizzling rice soup, black bean noodle, black bean fish, Chloe's shrimp, Mongolian bbq, and kung pao chicken. They even brought out a complimentary red velvet cake for my parents. The table setting was nice where we were able to comfortably sit close to each other. We were even able to hang out for a bit in the outside patio afterwards. We'll probably be back for another event soon! read more

I can't believe I've been sleeping on New Moon for so many years. I met a friend here between the lunch and dinner service so we had a nice chill meal which allowed us plenty of opportunities to chat with our waitress and ask a lot of questions. I had my mind blown so many times! Let's begin with the won ton strips and dipping sauce they bring to the table. I couldn't stop snacking on these and could have made a meal just out of those because they were that delicious.... I didn't understand how something as simple and basic as won ton strips and dipping sauce was blowing me away. We also ordered the honey ginger tea which was so good I had to ask the waitress why it was so good. I have been raving about that tea for weeks. Since it was our first visit, we ordered the appetizer platter, the Chinese chicken salad, Kung Pao Chicken and Chow Mein. This was a crazy amount of food for two people because everything is served family style here and the portions are generous and very fairly priced. It worked out because we had plenty of leftovers to take home. The appetizer platter is a great choice if you have a few people at the table so you can all try the various items. The Chinese Chicken salad was also incredible and something I have been thinking about for weeks. I'll definitely be coming back to new moon when I'm in the 818 and want Chinese food. Ever since Panda Inn in Glendale was remodeled it's just not the same so Panda Inn is dead to me and New Moon now has my full loyalty. We decided to give this place another chance recently eating dine-in. A couple years ago we did not have a great experience with the food quality. Fast forward to our experience recently. Even worse. We sat outside. The waiter was nice at first, but then disappeared after taking our order and telling us a story about being half Italian. Other waiters brought our food. We ate our food and then we waited a very long time until we could ask someone for the check. Someone at the front desk finally came out for another reason. I let her know that the waiter disappeared, and instead of apologizing, she gave us an attitude and made excuses that the waiter was helping a large party. That doesn't mean we should be neglected! Now on to the food. It was edible but not as good as other Chinese restaurants. The oils used didn't seem very good quality. The food doesn't seem the same like when we used to order take out 5 years ago. Very disappointed with this place. read more

Man not sure what happened to this place. Used to eat here all the time years ago and it was solid. Recently had it today for the first time in a long time and I probably won't go back. I got takeout of hot and sour soup and the beef chow mein. The hot sour soup was watered down and tasteless. Felt like I was eating hot water with pepper in it. The chow mein was pretty bland and the beef was OK. If it wasn't for the red chili sauce and the hot mustard I doused all over this meal I would not have been able to eat it. My wife went to New Moon for lunch with a friend, and brought me back leftovers. It was a lunch special that had some spiciness to it. It was quite good, but hard for me to justify it being that much better than any of the other Chinese Food places in La Crescenta (especially for the price). It seemed a bit "american" chinese food, and on par with Panda Express. I did enjoy the leftovers, so it was a solid 4. I don't know about the other dishes there, since they offered the lunch special and soup. The cost was about $18 for the special a soup. Not a great deal, but also not outrageous. If going with a larger family meal, I'd probably venture to Arcadia to try something over there. Service was fine, and the restaurant was clean and tidy. It's also nice how it is so close. read more

We had not been to this location at all. Visited the spot in DTLA, but what a joy it was to come here. Great place, excellent service, clean venue and delicious food. The ambulance was fantastic. My family, friends, and I have been coming here for the past 15 years and it's has never disappointed. The food is always delicious and we never skip ordering the Hunan Crispy Garlic Shrimp. The service is usually younger high school/college kids so the service isn't the greatest but they're always very nice. The restaurant is similar to other Chinese banquet rooms but a little more modern and with a nice private bar area. Parking is tight but has never been an issue for me. Definitely recommend New Moon to anyone coming to town. read more

We went on a Sunday evening around 5pm and a few tables were still available but it was so crowded inside! The tables are put so closely together you can barely move or get up from your chair without hitting the person next to you. Maybe it was an off day but overall the food lacked flavor except for the new moon dragon beef. The eggplant dish( no flavor whatsoever), new moon salad and braised beans were very little flavored. The NY jumbo egg roll was not good at all. Looked like you're at the county fair. The dragon beef was excellent. Service was good overall. We would probably skip it next time around. Been here now a few times and met many nice people. I've also been to their DTLA, the NM Cafe at Fig@7th and the Valencia location, when it was open. But the Montrose spot has truly become one of my top three "go-to" spots for excellent food and service. The location is easy to find and they have a dedicated parking lot. Alan and Josh, the bartenders are exceptional and are customer-focused. It's always fun to go someplace that you are familiar with and are recognized. Did I mention that weekends are the best?! Their Happy Hour menu is truly unsurpassed. In this economic climate, many restaurants are having to cut back to stay afloat but New Moon does a great job. Prices are very reasonable and the portions measure up. I also really appreciate their gluten-free options and the care they take to notify the kitchen staff of any allergies. The dinning room was full yet we were able to sit at a table within a few minutes. We had attentive service by the bussers as soon as we were seated and great service from our server. We ordered and expected our food to take a while due to how busy they were. I was pleasantly surprised to have our food tabled within ten minutes! And that was with a packed house also fulfilling take-out orders. Great hospitality from everyone and I observed harmonious teamwork by the staff to please every guest. Drove out to Montrose last night to an old favorite restaurant from Santa Clarita unfortunately that location closed after COVID which hit them hard. However some of the same people went to the Montrose location the manager Pook & Scott who is also a server one of our favorite servers Nikki all landed in this location. We've been coming to New Moon since our son was in 7th grade, and he just got married last week, so you know it's a long time. It's been a staple for us, and in particular the signature Chloe's Shrimp is a favorite. We ordered it tonight and my wife decided to try something different - the combination appetizer plate. It was pretty much inedible. The jumbo egg roll was soggy, the paper wrapped chicken was burnt, the barbecue pork rib was dried out and flavorless, and the rest of the items were barely adequate. Thankfully, the Chloe's Shrimp was up to its usual standard, as was the garlic string beans, but even with inflation, when you're paying almost $100 with tip, throwing out half your order is not what I'd call a satisfying evening. It's even harder to understand given that we called at 5 and picked up the order twenty minutes later, so it's not like it was the tail end of the evening or the order had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. It's been upper 90s the last few days and having worked in restaurants, I know it was probably pretty hot in the kitchen. I'm going to chalk this one up to just a bad night and hope that the next time we order we're back to the quality we've come to expect from this usually reliable neighborhood spot. read more
