Ever been hangry but can't figure out what to stuff in your belly? That's me tonight on a Tuesday. I ended up here and, honestly, I don't know that I'd go back. I got a small gumbo and catfish nuggets at 6.99 each. Even though they have a sign on the door for drink specials, apparently they didn't last more than like two months because they aren't offering that anymore. So I just asked for a water cup. 15.12 and you order at the counter and get your own drink. The water button on the soda machine sticks, so prepare for it to run for like a full 45 seconds before it magically unsticks. Gumbo came out in about ten minutes, but weirdly wasn't hot. Catfish nuggets came out about ten minutes after that (weird since they are both apps) and I asked for my soup to be reheated. I tried a nugget and it was ok, but there's like zero seasoning on them. Bland as my last tinder date people. For a place that touts New Orleans in the name, there's no creole/cajun influence here. Everything was just bland, especially the gumbo. By the way, he took it to reheat and by the time he returned it (14 min later) I needed to leave. He was nice enough to give me a lid and bag though. Service was ok, but there's like one guy and when he disappeared it was for ten minutes. I don't know if he was having to cook it or what but it made service slow. Great service, super friendly and prompt. Ambiance is casual but clean. Food was good but I wasn't blown away by it. Oysters were pretty mediocre but the main was good (we had the shrimp, clams, corn, and sausage with the house sauce at medium). For a point of comparison on the food, I'll use Boiling Crab. Seafood quality was similar but the sauce is where things differed. I prefer Boiling Crab, where the sauce is a bit thicker and the taste a bit more concentrated. Small restaurant and no waitstaff. You order your food at the checkout. Small selection of beers. You make your own table out with wax paper. We got the crab boil with a side of hush puppies. The spice was hot and satisfying. Thankfully so, because the crab and shrimp tasted a bit dry. Unfortunate as our meal was almost 100 dollars for 2. The sausage and corn were good. My only disappointment is that "Hot" was not even close to being mild. I did love the "all in one seasoning", but hot is supposed to be hot. It should force me to drink and want more drinks or milk. Now my son got fire, my hot was hotter than his fire. So New Orleans Crab Shack--turn up the heat. The food is good, but the spice matters too. The fried shrimp and fried catfish did NOT taste like shrimp or catfish meat. It Awful! The only thing that tasted good was the Cajun fries. I left there feeling hungry and ripped off. Crabs legs are one of my top 3 fav foods. This place did not disappoint. The flavor is balanced with savory, spice, and mild sweetness. I like that the sauce does not have that oil base. The sauce is so flavorful. I got the spicy sauce with all of the flavors. The hush puppies have little pieces of corn. They are delightful little nuggets of goodness. I look forward to coming back. I woke up today deciding to have lunch at a black owned business that I hadn't tried before. Definitely not one for cleanliness. How are bathroom and dining trash cans full when you first open? The window sills are filthy and sticky. Floor needs to be swept. Plentiful menu and convenient location, but they can do much better on cleanliness. The food was not so great either. We've order from here twice, both times to go. The food is delicious. We got the B3 in the house special and fries. It's the perfect amount of food for two people, maybe a little too much. We usually have some sausage and shrimp left over. The inside is similar to any other hole in the wall type place. The tables can be covered if you eat inside. It wasn't busy at all the times we've been inside to order and leave. The people were nice, nothing overly friendly about them to be honest, but we prefer that type of service. This specific joint is one our favorite crawfish restaurants as it is always fresh, live crawfish, delicious flavor, and overall great customer service. We are from the New Orleans area and since we moved here it's been a little tough finding something more authentic but it stops here if you want good seasoned seafood. We had seafood baskets the shrimp fish and oysters were fried and seasoned to perfection. The boiled items were excellent just like at home. These were the absolute biggest crawfish we have ever had. I mean I've bought lobsters that were not much larger. And the majority of them were the lighter softer shells so we could enjoy the claws and the tails were easy to peal. My daughter commented positively on the decor when we came in, it was decorated like back bayou country. Service was friendly. One suggestion that will help you out... Make sure your employees understand your product. We were told that the crawfish were medium sized so we thought $8.99 for medium, maybe we don't need so many... and we actually reduced our order. I love this place! I'm so glad they are picking up and busy now. We went last year when they had just opened up and we were able to talk to the owner about his business and where he came from. He is so kind and easy to talk to. We always order to go from here so it was nice to be able to sit in again and see how busy they are. The fried fish is a must!! It is delicious and heavenly. Their crawfish is usually on point and very well seasoned. The last time, it was a bit under sauced and not as spicy as usual though but I would still go back.
