DO NOT TAKE YOUR WEDDING DRESS HERE FOR CLEANING! Our wedding planner recommended New Parisian Cleaners, and after a quick search here on Yelp, I ignored other wedding dress cleaning experiences and relied instead upon our planner's expertise. At only $200 for a wedding dress cleaning, where other places charge upwards of $600, it seemed like a great find. I should have known better, and I wish they would have expressed reservations on their abilities when I brought the dress in. Like any wedding dress, the bottom had become dark grey from rubbing against the dance floor, but they did not ask any questions about when the dress was stained and what the stain could be. When we picked up the dress after our honeymoon, the bottom was still completely stained. In addition, there was an odd yellow spot on the bodice that was not there before. They were unapologetic, unsympathetic, and recommended that the bottom just be cut off or remade. And I had to pay the remaining balance! Since I planned on selling the dress, which I told them, this was unacceptable. They also said they cleaned it three times, and while I appreciate their brute force efforts, they were also setting the dirt into the skirt. I wish they had called and left a message after the first unsuccessful round, instead of pushing forward and setting in the stains. I ended up taking the dress to Heritage Garment Preservation afterwards, and they were able to rescue most of the dress, with minor staining left on the skirt. Heritage said that the stains were from the initial dry cleaning setting the stains in. In short, avoid this place like a pool of red wine, and take your wedding dress to Heritage- it's only $130 more and they'll actually get it clean! read more

CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!! My sister brought her wedding dress to this place to have it cleaned and it came back with a big, blackish grease stain on it! When she came to pick it up and saw the stain, she obviously started freaking out and they were very rude and unapologetic. They didn't try to console her or offer a way to fix the situation. They even had the nerve to tell her that SHE got the dress dirty and that it must have had the stain before she took it there! Can you say defensive? I think she'd have known and pointed it out in the beginning if that were the case... Now, my sister had her dress custom made and the dressmaker recommended this place. Not only did the people at Parisian blame my sister for the stain, their seamstress insulted the way the dress was designed. First of all, if someone is recommending your place to other people, don't start bad mouthing that person. They're bringing you business for goodness sakes. You can bet my sister told her and that dressmaker won't be referring this place anymore. Second of all, why would you insult a wedding dress to the bride's face? Are you crazy? When my sister finally got to talk to the manager face to face, they didn't even offer to compensate in anyway. My sister had to mention small claims court to get them to offer to pay for half of the damage. They didn't even offer to pay in full! Way to take responsibility. Dear customers, the moral of the story is that you should take your precious clothes elsewhere. This place obviously doesn't care much about the value of your items. You're better off taking your things somewhere where the prices are cheaper and the customer service is better. read more

My first tip-off should have been when, as a new customer, I dropped off my jeans for a hole-in-the-crotch repair and the attendants started begging me to tell my friends to bring in their clothes as well. How about we wait to see what type of service I get before asking me to do personal referrals? Chalking that up to the gusto one must have to successfully market and run a business, I left my jeans with the hope that I'd return to find the hole expertly sewn up with great attention to detail. Lo and behold, when I inspected the jeans at the counter, my disappointment must have been visible because the attendant quickly tried to explain what was going on. But, the repair job on the jeans said enough. First, the fraying hole was still there in all its glory (see the pic I uploaded); second, inside the jeans, there was a big patch of material covering way more than just the area I'd identified as needing repair (see second pic I uploaded); and third, there were strings hanging all over the place (see third pic I uploaded). It was clear to me that they didn't repair the one thing I wanted done and that their attention to detail, from taking down my instructions to doing a simple once-over and maybe cleaning up the repair site before turning the jeans over to me, was sorely lacking. When I questioned the quality of the repair, the attendant tried to reassure me that this was the proper repair. Taking her up on the challenge, I removed the jeans from the hanger and plastic and walked down the street to another cleaners/alterations store to ask for their opinion on how to fix the jeans. They took one look and laughed and said that my repair job was horrible, that the fraying hole should have at least 20 stitches, and that the patch piece was entirely too big and unnecessary. When I returned to New Parisian to relay the second opinion I'd received, the attendant said that she could "go back in" and tighten up the repair, for "an extra charge." Whaaaat? Did you seriously just ask me to pay double for a repair job that you botched? As the French would say, "no way, Jose!" read more

I took a very precious commodity here -- my wedding dress. I was nervous but they had good reviews, and when I walked in, I saw another wedding gown already cleaned and pressed, so I took that as a good sign. When I came to pick up the dress there was some discoloration that hadn't been there originally. After another few tries, they were able to clean all the spots. I suggested the staff call their customers if there is a big problem like a stain on a wedding dress that won't come out. A phone call might have quelled some of the surprise and upset I felt as I came to pick up the dress and saw these new spots. Anyway, in the end, the dress looks brand new, all stains were removed, even the grass/dirt ones on the bottom of the skirt. The gals who work here were very sweet, greeted me by name, and carried the dress to the car. This could have been a 1 or 2 star review but they came back strong with good craftsmanship and customer service. read more

I was at a black tie event wearing a beautiful pale blue evening dress I had fallen in love with (and I found it for only 17 buckaroos, see Nordstrom Rack review) while chatting it up with a few gentlemen when one tripped holding a glass of red wine, spilling it all down my dress. And didn't offer to pick up the dry cleaning bill. Clearly this one was raised by chimpanzees. I was dismayed to find my new dress was covered in palm sized red wine stains. It certainly looked like a goner. It may have cost less than one dry cleaning, but I LIKED my $17 ballgown, A LOT. Amy said she wasn't sure if she could get it back to new, but assured me she would try. One week and $25 later I return, and Amy tries to break it to me gently she couldn't get all the stains out. I was bummed, but then she pulls out my dress. It looked perfect. She frets, pointing to a barely detectable watermark on the back of the dress. It's basically new. So, I ordered a beautiful Nicole Miller wedding dress from Jorja boutique. 4 nail biting weeks later, Jorja calls to say, "Um, the factory is no longer making the dress and they didn't tell me until now." Brides out there will know exactly how I felt. I'd gone to every dress shop in and out of town and then the one I settled on was not available, and I found out only after I shelled out the money and had figuratively crossed that item off my list. I am not a dress person and the "what to wear at your wedding" question was just not a detail I cared to linger over. Not to worry, Jorja said, and told me she'd sell me the sample dress (Size 8) and she knew JUST the right person to tailor it to my Size 0 body. Riiiight, I thought. But I went with her to New Parisian, mainly because I was desperate to be done with the detail of having a dress to get married in. Emily Mihal and her team are ---I don't exactly know how to put this---MAGICIANS. They cut the dress down, preserved the beading (and my sanity), and were very sweet and fun to work with. It was a team effort; the New Parisians all working together; very flexible, very friendly. The finished product was a whopping success. More beautiful than the original. This is a quality cleaners. A place to bring you're most precious clothing items... for dry cleaning as well as alterations. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed some very complicated adjustments done with it and when I got it back it was altered so well that it fit perfectly and I couldn't even tell where they took it in. They're that good. All the ladies in there are always so friendly as well and they do their best to recognize and remember repeat customers, which is a nice feeling. Word to the wise, they are not cheap... so if you have a basic dress shirt to be cleaned or jeans to be hemmed I'd take them elsewhere. Keep New Parisian for those special garments. read more

Emily and her team did a fantastic job with alterations to my Nicole Miller wedding dress. She made shoulder straps, added a simple elegant bustle, relaxed the bust line, took in the waist, hemmed it (with the new hem looking much better) etc etc., and did it in record time. Emily has done hundreds of wedding dresses and it shows. Plus, she's so friendly and easy to work with, I actually enjoyed the process. After the wedding, I took it back for cleaning. They got out every grass stain and spot (it was an outdoor wedding), and the dress looks good as new. Plus, she charged me much less than a "typical" wedding dress cleaning, since the dress itself is quite simple. Not cheap, but I'm willing to pay for quality. Came here after reading all the Yelp reviews. I trusted the place with a very important piece-my wedding dress. It's very simple, but the material was pretty delicate. Worked with the head seamstress and she explained everything she wanted to do, which included hand hemming and a buttress. It was great because she answered all my questions and was really thorough. On my first visit, I forgot the shoes I was going to wear, and she pinned it, but didn't rush me because she didn't want to hem it without the right shoes. I came back twice and it's be easy every time. It's a very small place, but it's nice to get the individual attention. She didn't try to up-sell me on any weird alterations and actually asked me what I wanted done. If I requested something that she thought wouldn't work, she would speak up and explain why that wouldn't be the best idea. Definitely expert tailoring. Once everything was done, she even offered to store it for me. Overall, really great, individual service and her handiwork is top notch. read more

New Parisian Cleaners uses an ecologically sound dry cleaning system and your clothes come back with a very faint fragrance, unlike other cleaners that give you back your clothing impregnated with that sweetishly acrid dry cleaning fluid smell. You can take your hangers back to them and they will re-use them, which is a great sustainable practice. So, although they don't have the slick, cheesy "greenwashing" marketing as another dry cleaner in the area, New Parisian is also a green business! They charge $30 for original hem, which they call "French hem". It's $10 more than the original hem service at several other nearby places, but it's worth it. They line up all the seams exactly, and do a much nicer job, so that even if you're really short, like me, and have to have all your pants hemmed, no one can tell that 8 inches of fabric were cut off the legs of your pants! When I examined the underside of the hem of my new jeans, I was completely amazed. I could not even tell that anything had been done, except that they were the right length. Their sewing is AMAZING! I recently discovered when putting on a pair of pants that had been missing one of the inner waist buttons (which I never did anything about, because it still had two other inner buttons plus the regular outer buttons) that in addition to cleaning the pants, New Parisian replaced my missing button with a new one. They actually saw that the pants were missing a button and put one on, without charging me, and without even telling me. It was one of those small but astounding customer service moments that really leaves an impression. I love New Parisian! read more

This review is a long time coming, but I wanted to share my experience with Emily for alterations. New Parisian was recommended to me by the boutique where I purchased my dress, so I figured I'd bring it in and see what was recommended for the alterations. Emily worked with me and let me come in for several fittings. We had an issue with the original satin ribbon sash on the dress not laying flat, and she ended up making me a new sash out of some other satin fabric that worked perfectly. My dress was ready a few days before the wedding and fit perfectly. Considering there was a lot of lace and tulle work, the details looked perfect and clean, which I'm sure was a ton of work. I took some jeans there to be hemmed, as well as a dress that needed fairly major alterations. Emily recommended adding a seam up the back that didn't currently exist to make the dress more form fitting and flattering. When I got it back a week later it looked awesome. People were literally stopping me on the street to say how much they loved the dress. I just dropped off a Bridesmaid's dress to be taken in and I can wait to see Emily work her magic again. New Parisian is where its at! I used to live up the street back in the day, and now I DRIVE IN FROM MARIN to bring them my clothes. You can't go wrong here with either their dry cleaning or alterations services. And the staff at the shop are super- friendly. I must echo what many others have said about their ability to get stained clothes looking like new again, and to fix just about everything under the sun. Really. Its amazing. Also, the process they use won't fade your clothes over time (very important) or leave the funny chemical smell that other dry cleaners' processes do. One of their other specialties is their ability to maintain the original hem when getting jeans altered. That way, you don't have to walk around lookin' like a fool with those sad folded-over hems your grandma might wear -- you can walk around like those jeans were made at the factory for people just your height! Perfect little you! :) I will say that once I returned afterwards to let them know I thought my pants were hemmed unevenly, and they told me that the pants were hemmed okay, but were different lengths because they were matched to my LEGS, which were uneven! I couldn't even be offended.. it was so funny! Plus, they're always very nice and they redid them at no charge anyway, so all was well. I will warn that the price of their dry cleaning and alterations can get up there, so don't say you weren't warned. But! I took my wedding dress to get pressed at New Parisian Cleaners based on recommendations from two friends. When I brought it in, I also asked Emily to create a sash for the dress. She graciously did so (for about 1/4 the cost of what the bridal salon was going to charge me for the sash). When I went back to see the finished sash, Emily asked me to try it on with the dress so we could see the whole look. I had been unhappy with the fit of my dress (which I purchased and had altered out of state) but was resigned to wearing an ill-fitting dress because I had less than one month before the wedding, which didn't leave much time for further alterations. When I tried the dress on with the sash, Emily immediately noticed that I was unhappy with (and uncomfortable in) my dress. She asked me if I wanted her to make alterations to the dress for me and pointed out multiple things she could do to improve the fit of the dress. When I told her that I would need everything completed in three weeks, she said that she would get it done for me so that I would be able to feel comfortable and beautiful in my wedding dress. Emily completely rebuilt the bust of my dress and removed tons of fabric from the bodice so that the dress fit me well, covered what it needed to cover, and allowed me to breathe and move comfortably and freely. I took my dress in to New Parisian to have it pressed and have a sash made. I ended up with a fantastic wedding dress consultant (Emily) who took a poorly fitted dress and made it look fantastic and fit really well. As a result of my experiences with her, I have asked Emily to make casual dresses for me to wear on the honeymoon. I highly recommend New Parisian for tailoring/seamstress needs as well as for having a wedding dress pressed. read more

Quality of work: 5 stars, Price: 3 stars, hence the 4 stars. I took a suit that I had for about 2 years and couldn't wear because it was too big. I looked like I was playing dress-up in my mommy's clothes. I heard of New Parisian from my co-worker and was forewarned that the price would be up there, but that the craftsmanship was totally worth it. I don't regret spending the $ at all. Completely worth it. I got my suit and a pair of pants back in 1 week. I could've gotten it back a day earlier, but I wasn't available to pick it up, so it didn't make sense to have them ready earlier. I'm definitely bringing in any suits that need to be taken in. For me, this place is well-worth the drive. They use a "green" system to get your clothes clean, and I don't mean clean-smelling (read: perfumes and chemical-scented). The clothes are actually clean. They will even de-pill any sweaters you bring in for cleaning. When I bring in an old worn-out favorite, they make it look fantastic again. O, and the alterations! For jeans or pants, they automatically use the original hem/style of hem when altering. If you bring in a dress, they will discuss how much it should be taken in, how short to make the hemline. I've been going to them for alterations for almost three years - I'm short and everything I buy needs to be "fixed - and everything I have had altered looks completely professional. As for those commenting on the price: they ARE expensive, I agree. I would probably give them four-and-a-half stars if I could, knocking off the half-star for price. I just picked up my alterations and they did a fantastic job. I wanted to take in the waist of my jeans and fix a pair that were flared in the leg and make straight. It took only a few days and they look like brand new jeans made to fit me. I can't even tell they were altered. While I have never taken higher priced items here (wedding dress, silk, cashmere) I can say they are the best of the best when it comes to every day clothing. So imagine my surprise, when I picked up my dress, every last smear and smudge was gone, they had performed a few minor alterations, and they only charged me $150?!? (One hole-in-the-wall crap cleaner on Polk wanted $280 for the same services! And Parisian is in the heart of the Marina, too--you'd think if anywhere, it would be the one overpriced.) Most of all, I loved the owner and how friendly she was and how she knew me every time I came in (and every return trip I've now made). I was fortunate to find my dream wedding dress on Ebay after it was suddenly discontinued by the designer. I got it at a steal of a price but needed to have it cleaned. I chose to take it to New Parisian Cleaners after reading reviews on Yelp. They took extreme care with my dress, even deciding to send it to be specially cleaned since some of the beadwork was glued on rather than stictched. It came out beautifully. I gave 4 stars due only to cost. It cost me $200 to clean a dress that is a very slim fitting mermaid/sheath style (I'm a size 4). I actually paid more to have it cleaned than what I paid for it. But in the end I have exactly the dress I wanted. So I wouldn't hesitate to recommend New Parisian Cleaners for items that you want to make sure they take care of. read more

It is through my sister that I hear the owner Emily also makes wedding dresses and evening dress, I saw her dress worn by one of the super models and it was featured in Vogue or something. Anyway so I decided to ask her to give me an estimate on wedding dress for my future wife, they met and she asked her about what she wants in a wedding dress then they decided on a style and 1 day later she came back with an estimate which is way better than the others out there so we went with her. We were worried that she might not have enough time to make it since the wedding is less than 3 moths but Emily did it! she communicated with my wife regularly on the progress and made changes on my wife's request and voila! the dress was ready 2 weeks before the wedding and it fits perfectly! I am not sure if Emily makes wedding dress as her regular job, maybe just as a hobby but she certainly did a great job! We are 100% happy with her work and from talking with her we knew that she can make all kinds of cloth. By the way her alterations are great as well! we had all of our bridesmaids dresses altered there and she did a great job! She also does wedding dresses I think since I saw so many wedding dresses at her workshop waiting to be altered. I took my wedding dress here after letting it hang in my closet, dirty, for at least 9 months. I was convinced they were not going to be able to get all the stains out (dark spill stain down the back, absolutely filthy bottom from walking around the streets of Guatemala, etc) The dress is all lace and seemingly very complicated to clean. I paid the first half and then left with only the slightest hope that they would be able to restore it. A week later, I went to pick it up and was absolutely blown away. It looks brand new. My sister is wearing it in her wedding and I was so happy to hand it over in pristine condition. I think it was $220 total, which was totally worth it.
