Delicious sushi here ! Found this sushi place by accident. Was in smithtown, so I was going to go to Kotobuki, my fave, but it's closed on Mondays. Was told to check out Sakura.Glad we did. Started off with Gyoza and a tuna Tartar. The tuna tartar was outstanding. It was prepared very differently then I have had before. Almost like a citrus taste from the orange on the bottom of the tartar. Then we had the crazy tuna roll with black pepper tuna and the Tiger roll.Both rolls where on point. Will be back for sure. Huge selection of special rolls here you won't be disappointed. My girlfriend had the chicken teriyaki and she enjoyed it as well. read more

I've come here pretty often in the past and have noticed the quality has gone down over time. I recently tried their lunch special bento box and was disappointed at their portions as well as their quality. The amount of rice they provided was extremely small, the beef was too well done and salty, and the tempura was a bit too thick. The sushi combo isn't too bad for lunch but I would not recommend ordering a bento box. Over all I would go to the other Japanese places in the area but won't mind stopping by if I'm just going to get a quick bite. read more

It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but definitely not the worst either. I've only been here twice, on desperation since there's not many sushi places around where I live and I was craving it. The variety of rolls I've tried weren't all that. I think it was missing the flavor, as much as it looked like it had some. The second time I just ordered a Philly roll bc you can't really mess that up. I honestly can't rate anything else but their sushi in my photos. They're really quick to make the food, I always order for pick-up. What your looking for in a sushi restaurant above everything is quality for obvious reasons because the wrong place can get you very sick. The best way to find a good sushi place is word of mouth, and of course looking at Yelp reviews. Outside of that, consider it's decor, food creativity, and service. I've been to Sakura on more than one occasion, and can say that its a decent choice. There's not much that this place stands out from the rest. It's not the best, but certainly not the worst. The sushi is good quality, the menu is pretty creative, and the service is fair, but friendly. Additionally, I haven't encountered any issues with any orders. *Quick tip: whenever at sushi place (goes for most) beware of anything with crab for it is more than likely imitation crab, and not the real thing. At this particular restaurant, they sell imitation crab..I've asked. read more

Went for a late lunch/early dinner on a weekday. Very clean and quiet--only one other table was occupied when we arrived. The server was attentive and our orders accurate. Good miso soup! We ordered a few rolls and the shrimp tempura appetizer. We wished that the tempura had been a little more "flaky" on the shrimp for the texture one is used to, but the flavor was still good. They kept a steady supply of water and hot tea coming throughout our visit. Reasonable pricing and a good experience. read more

Got the volcano appetizer it was good but very small had pears inside with the tuna which was nice and fresh avocado on the outside. Special rolls range from 7-12 which is very good pricing. Ordered the Sakura roll which was bite size. Had cucumber on the outside just like a Nurto roll and inside was tuna salmon and fluke ( pretty good). Freedom roll was delicious!!! Lobster with cream cheese and avocado and shrimp on the outside of the rice. They had a ginger dressing which raised very fresh like they just blended a lot of fresh ingredients together and made it themselves. Thought it was very different in a good fresh way. The prices were very affordable ($16 for 3 rolls) and they made my to- go order within 10 minutes. However the salmon tasted "off" , so I only ate a few pieces of each of the rolls, I still had *severe* food poisoning that landed me in the hospital with an IV. I had not had anything else to eat that day except oatmeal so New Sakura was definitely the culprit. For reference, I ordered 1 salmon avocado roll, 1 sweet potato roll and 1 crunch salmon roll. I love this place. Really. I was looking for another spot to order from because my other favorite is closed Monday and decided to try them based on the fact that they serve a roll that has 2 elements I love in it...Lobster and cream cheese. Thats right...the freedom roll people. Lobster tempura, cream cheese, avocado (which I am allergic too so they leave it off for me) and topped with shrimp sashimi and eel sauce Wow. This is the decadent roll I have been searching for my whole life. Not to mention they always remember to leave off the avocado and eel sauce for me- and the kicker? The most expensive chef specialty rolls are around 13 bucks!!. If your a sushi buff you KNOW that is a good price. The whole menu looks like that. Priced beautifully so you can gorge your face more often. I have had a few other items; the fluke in ponzu sauce, the shumai, and my daughter had a few rolls she raved over...in fact she said the salmon was so fresh that it tasted like the just pulled it from the water....so far everything has been so delicious. The people who work there seem to be so nice. I have only had the delivery so far so we will have to update this upon a dine in experience. I hate the closed on Sunday thing too...but no stars lost for that no way! Great Japanese Restaurant My parents owned this restaurant for about 10 years now. We have a great sushi and kitchen menu. The fish is always fresh the rolls are delicious. My favorite roll is the Sakura Dream Roll. California roll fried in tempura batter, gets cut and toped off with spicy tuna and avocado. Yum. My favorite kitchen item is the sesame chicken. I recall coming here once years ago with a friend for an early when we couldn't get into Kotobuki. This time, we went for a mid-week lunch. The decor and atmosphere is quiet, traditional Japanese, and the service friendly. You may have to wait a bit for the sushi, even when the venue isn't crowded, but I think it's worth the wait. After changing my mind a dozen times (every roll sounded good!) I settled on the Kirin roll, with its shrimp tenpura, pepper tuna avocado, and eel sauce. It was delicious, especially the pepper tuna on top. I had to force myself to share. My companion chose the lunch special, with a tuna roll and a Philadelphia roll. I usually don't care for Philly rolls but this one was good. The tuna was excellent. The only down side seemed to be the odd, flavorless dressing on the house salad, quite a departure from the usual tasty orange/ginger stuff. I'll be back for more specialty rolls and to try their sushi/sashimi. read more

Walked in no one there in the restaurant. Should have been my first clue to turn around and walk out. Two people walked out of the back and didn't even greet me. I asked why no one was there and they kind of giggled. Got the sushi regular that should come with seven pieces of sushi and a California roll. The pieces or wafer thin you could almost see through them and only one piece of salmon one piece of tuna and all the rest was junk fish. Reading some of the previous reviews, I'm going to go out on a limb and say some of them may be a little biased. That being said, here's one yelper's objective take on New Sakura... It's decent. Would I plan a night out here? Probably not. Would I drop in for lunch during the week? Definitely! It's a no frills Japanese restaurant and it's consistently the same. The waitress and sushi chef, who I assume are the owners, are very friendly and the atmosphere is, as one yelper described, "cozy." I can't really say anything bad about the food other than there are better sushi options in the area, but New Sakura offers it's own brand of charm and is not a bad lunch spot if you work in the area.
