My dad has always said "There are certain types of food that shouldn't be on a buffet and Chinese is one of them." That's definitely true. It wasn't my choice to eat here; my fiancé wanted to try it out. So I wasn't expecting much. The price wasn't bad: $10.99 for all you can eat. I didn't try the Mongolian grill station but wished I had, because a lot of the food appeared to have been sitting for a while. So with the grill, you can at least have something hot and fresh. Many of the hot foods were room temp or cold. I had some sushi rolls, which weren't bad, except for a tempura-fried roll that was soggy and cold. I also had a hot and sour soup, which was about on par with Panda Express; some salad; and some crab wontons. The wontons weren't the best I've had, but you really can never go wrong with crab, cream cheese, and fried goodness. Even bad crab wontons are good. My fiancé sampled a lot of the dishes and said none of it was really good. This place is quantity over quality for sure. The staff was nice, but they were mopping the floors when we were there. This was the first time my wife and I had been in here and I have to say it was really good. The food on the buffet was fresh. From marinated baby octopus to pizza they have it all. Let me start by saying, my family has been coming to New Town Buffet for years, since they first opened their doors, and it has usually been decent food for a Chinese buffet.  Today, however, was the worst.  When we walked in the door, the hostess was chatting on her cellphone, and motioned us with her hand to follow her to a table, never once uttering a single word to us, but continued to talk to someone on her phone. Normally, within 30 seconds, our drink orders are taken, and we proceed to the buffet.  Today we waited for nearly 10 minutes before someone took our drink order.  When we went to get our food, several items were mislabeled.  The chow fun noodles were labeled as "Steak", egg foo young was labeled as "Coconut Shrimp", and spicy chicken with red pepper flakes was labeled "Orange Chicken".  Upon starting to eat our food we soon found many of the foods were cold that should have been fresh and piping hot, especially considering we got here at 11:30am.  When we told the staff the food was cold,  they told us they would talk to the manager and suggested we should pull the food from the bottom of the trays.  And then about 30 minutes later, a staff member came to our table and told us we should go get more food now because it had just now been prepared hot and fresh.  I do not know for sure why the food was cold, but I strongly suspect when they opened, the leftover trays of food from the night before were pulled from the refrigerator, and placed on the steam heating buffet tables to reheat.  If we had come here an hour later, the food would have had time to heat up and we would never have known.  The manager never came to speak with us.  I sincerely hope none of us get food poisoning due to unsafe food handling.  We will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. read more

K, I don't usually go for the janky Chinese buffets, but it wasn't my idea. Let's do this. First, it was way nicer on the inside than I was expecting, and much cleaner. The staff was also quite nice. Right there - best Chinese buffet I've ever been to! The sushi was... what it needs to be to keep the operating cost down. Most was meh. The mixed tempura dumpling type thing was original, but not great. The spicy tuna roll was... actually ok! It had a big chunk of imitation crab (dat operating cost), and the rice was dry, but I think I snarfed down six of them and felt like I had a win for the day. The rest of the stuff was pretty much to be expected. There was the assortment of heavily-breaded meats in different sauces. A non-breaded "spicy" chicken which wasn't bad at all. Wonton soup (can't go wrong.) Highlight of the day was when I stumbled upon the gyoza (pot-stickers, fried dumplings, etc) complete with good sauce. I do feel like I cheated myself by not trying the Mongolian. Next time. Yes, I will be back, if only to try the Mongolian and have some more fried dumplings. read more

I like the Buffet styles as I can eat a little to see what I like best. But, it all tasted good so I could hardly walk out. The cost was more than reasonable and the staff was wonderful. The food here was a little average. There was one dish that was very good (honey chicken) but there were some problems with almost every other dish that I tried. The rice in the sushi was dry, as it had been sitting out for some time, making parts of pieces entirely inedible. Which is important--because this place has signs up saying they'll charge by the pound for uneaten food (even if it is dry rice that no one should be forced to choke down). The sesame chicken could have been okay but I got several tough, dry pieces. This seemed to be the case for most of the chicken dishes--a few good pieces within several bad pieces. I did appreciate that some of the dishes were heavy on the veggies. There was one pork dish that had lots of green peppers and onions. It was a little cold though, and should have been served warmer. I wasn't that concerned about the food temp, but others were. Here is what bothered me the most about the experience though: They have buffet monitors wearing all orange that watch every move you make. At one point I had put some hot and sour soup into one of their soup cups. No big deal. I walked over to the cheese wanton area and picked two up and placed them into the soup. It is something I like. One of the workers came right up behind me, stood up on her toes, and then looked over my shoulder to see what I was doing. Keep in mind--I had done nothing crazy here. Was not contaminating food. Was just making a rendition of a dish. I found it extremely rude to get into my space and look over my shoulder. I said, "Is everything ok?" when I turned around. She didn't say anything to me, just waved a hand and then walked off. So I'm not entirely sure what the exchange here was, but it made me uncomfortable. I suppose I could see them checking on dishes, but they're actually very carefully watching every move you make. I was not a fan of this encounter either so I may not come back here. U-Like and other buffets are not as obnoxious to guests. Service, poor. Had drinks refilled once but had to wait about 15 minutes and had to flag someone down to get the refills. read more

That means that there are times when the food will be fresh, hot, and yummy fer' yer' tummy. That is when you go. Showing up at times other than these can and will result in a sub-prime dining experience. So when is the best time to go to a buffet? Usually within the first hour and a half of them opening for the day and from five in the afternoon to about six-thirty, unless it's a Friday and/or sometimes Saturday evenings, (depending on their clientele). I personally like to go here around 11:30 in the morning for the early lunch. Showing up right when they open means that you run a chance of them not having every thing out, so delay for half an hour and then come in and chow is serious fashion before the lunch crowd gets there around 12:15. In regard to New Town, five stars, baby! Sweet Thang, Spazmo the Speckled One and yours truly shows up 7pm with our biscuits dragging after a 7 hour drive on Good Friday. Was the buffet tired and sad? Oh, nay, nay! The tables were fresh, hot and delish! Do not miss the fried zucchini, medallions coated lightly in breading and fried al dente, Put your favorite sauce on it or, do it a la Panoche, and place a sliver of ginger from the sushi bar on top and enjoy! No soy sauce, mustard, cocktail sauce, nada. Go on, try it, I dare ya', Take a walk on the wild side. The sushi bar was spanking fresh. Be sure to throw the sushi master a buck in the tip jar. Highly recommended! First, full disclosure: I have a fussy stomach. It only takes one dirty cup and, next thing you know, there's yet another restaurant on my Do Not Trust list. I mention this because, after years of being painted into a corner by eatery after eatery, I have nearly run out of places I can turn for a tasty, reliable, and nutritious supper. Here's the good news: Newtown Buffet in Marana stands alone, in a *good* way. A very good way. We've been eating there a couple of times a month for close to a decade and have never (literally *never*) been even slightly disappointed. The food is hot, tasty, colorful, nutritious, and plentiful - what more could you ask for? Friendly, competent, attentive wait staff? Check. Facilities and equipment that's clean and just plain "nice"? Check. Convenient location? Flexible, reliable hours? Reasonable prices? Check, check, and check. There's just one thing I don't think you'll ever find at Newtown Buffet and that's sloppy hand-washing or any other lazy staff behaviors. The management has proved over time to me (the customer with the super easily-triggered digestive overreaction to such things) that they take the health of their customers as seriously as that of their own families. I'm grateful that these good people have built something that, as far as I can tell, is about as close as you're ever going to get to the Home Cooking of your happiest dreams - see you there! read more

This is the place we crave to go to. We have been going there for about six months. BEST buffet in Tucson. Sushi is limited for lunch, but much better variety for dinner. We drive down from Catalina just to go there. Usually 2-3 times a month. Friendly people. Great WonTon Soup! So much variety! Love the dumplings. Always find something great to eat. Last time we were there, Pepsi drivers (6) met for lunch. Police officers, too. When we left it looked like UPS drivers convention was pulling in. I feel sick instantly! The chicken tastes like it expired and they chose to cook it anyway. The soups are so bland, no flavor! The noodles have a weird flavor like they were nuked in styrofoam. Your options for a comfortable The food that was available!..All appeared to have been there for several hours,..Most of it missing.. Plus the items you did self-service to was massively over-salted.. Now! I love salt. So, if can get me to complain about salt? You know you gotta problem! It was as if the cook dropped ladels of salt on dishes that would otherwise go fairly unrecognizable. The Orange Chicken, Broccoli Beef .. Shrimp in lobster Sauce, .. Even the damm crab puffs.. Oversalted! Also...everything is served in flimsy plastic plates? Hell! I thought I was at a damm picnic!? Oh! And, You can forget telling any of the staff about your concerns over extreme levels of sodium! Even the assitants to the head assistant just stare at you as if you have a horn growing out of the center of your skull!? The owner, who's usually standing upfront near the bar, was no where to to found!? Probably knew the onslaught of disappointed diners to come! Eventually I attempted to eat jello & peaches... Hell. That tasted salty as well! Even my partner who tried to eat there had the same complaint. He's a heart patient who's gotta be careful. We're monitoring his blood pressure now. Because of the crazy levwls of salt in the food tonight. In total, I spent $39.41 for two dinner entrees... The worst decision in my life so far when it comes to eating out on a limited budget. Positive: a lot of food options, friendly staff, clean environment Negative: not many places for large groups to sit, food layout was small and people easily bump into each other, no real system of knowing if your food is done at the Mongollen beef station just listen for the bell and hope that its yours My daughter liked it more than I did, but she is 8. I am suprised to see so many negative reviews in here. We actually had a great dinner here last night. After a day seeing the gem show, we are ready for a dinner. We found the buffet by accident because it is right next to highway. Alough there are a lot of people in there already we were seated right away. I had the freshly prepared BBQ noodle and it was really good. The waiter served us constantly. Standard chinese buffet. Food was at an expected quality aside from three notable problems. Didn't seem to have any cleanliness problem. Fried Rice I think was a jasmine rice or some flowery rice without the flavor of something like soy sauce or oyster sauce. Soft serve literally didn't have any flavor I just tasted frozen dairy. Just okay.... I liked that they had a sushi bar, and some of it was actually pretty decent for a buffet-place. Skip the mongolian grill. Or get it, but don't use any of the meat. It was absolutely HORRIBLE quality - disgusting! You could get it with just noodles and veggies as a nice side, though. And the buffet itself... a bit lackluster. It was okay, but nothing special. Some of my usual favorites (general tso's, sesame chicken), I didn't even like here, but there were a few new-to-me items that I thought were decent. My husband and I ate here this past weekend since we were in Tucson for the weekend. We have eaten here two or three times before. Their buffet is rather limited, but seems to have all the basics that Chinese buffets would have. What needed to be warm was warm. The sushi is good for buffet sushi, and kept cool. The rice didn't have the hard texture. If you are expecting high end sushi dont go to an all you can eat buffet for it. The place was pretty clean, and didn't have that weird smell most Chinese buffets do. The service has always be nice, and prompt. The price seems reasonable and inline with the buffets we have gone to in the Phoenix area. As I said before, my husband and I have eaten here two or three times prior every 2 months or so, and everything seems to be fairly consistant. read more

I want my time and money back. Ever since China View Bistro closed, I have been searching for a decent buffet. This place is not it. I should have turned around once I saw that there was only 10 tables with customers. Sadly I remember no one was smiling. I know why. The food was bland and very little of each dish was available. I imagine since there was few customers, they did not want to waste food. This was a Saturday night at 8pm. If the food was good there would be more. The best item was the store bought frozen cream puffs. They had a sushi bar. Nothing looked good. Their Vegas roll was an onion topped roll. Vegas rolls are supposed top be deep fried rolls with eel sauce and are yummy. A thing to note, nearly every dish had a weird spicy sweet taste to it. Not sure if it was cinnamon, all spice or what. My guess is that they mixed up the salt with another spice. Dinner cost me $11 a person. That is way too high, especially for crappy food. It was steak night. By steak I mean cheap pieces of grilled beef soaking in broth. If I wanted steak I would have gone next door to Texas Road House. Service was good, but all they had to do is bring us water and the bill. I wish I could recommend another place to go, but I can't. read more

One of the worst Asian buffets I've ever been to!!! $10.99 for dinner/ $1.59 for soda per person. This was our second time there. First time was few years ago when we were here on vacation, right after they opened it. Back then the food was great! Not a big selection but everything was awesome. Well, not this time. During this vacation we decided to eat here again since we had such a good experience the first time. Unfortunately, this time everything was horrible. Went there on a Sunday. Expected way better considering our first experience, especially for a weekend! Unfortunately we all left hungry. We tried almost everything they had. We spat out almost everything we tried and they waitress picked up all of our plates pretty much full. I also noticed that we were not the only getting rid of full plates. Where to begin!? Orange chicken was spiced wrong. Wanton soup was tasteless. Green beans were old and stringy. Broccoli and beef were severely overcooked. Mongolian BBQ was undercooked. Tasted like microwaved food. The vegetables were not even hot. Fried chicken was terrible. I didn't even think anybody could mess that up. Lo main was inedible. Spring roles were bad! Dry and tasteless. Mushrooms had a funky flavor. I can go on, and on... Hot and sour soup was passable, just OK. Coconut shrimp was passable. Kinda OK. The only thing good they had was egg drop soup, and the honey chicken was good (if you like sweet chicken). We didn't dare try the sushi. Didn't feel like risking it. On a positive note the service was great and the place was clean. Don't waste your money, time and energy. The place is bad. Really bad. We paid $39 ($36 + $3 tip) for 2 adults and a 9 year old, and left hungry. Go eat somewhere else. read more

The food and service here isn't the greatest, but when you need to get some Chinese food quick and easy, this place is one of the best. The biggest problem here is the consistent quality. Sometimes the food is excellent, but most of the time it's just okay. Out of all the Chinese buffets in Tucson, this is probably one of, if not, the best. The last time we went there, I found a fingernail in my sushi. Because it's a public buffet table, there's no way to tell if another customer had dropped it in there, or if it was from one of the cooks. I showed it to our server and nothing was done about it. We were somewhat nervous about eating here given so many negative reviews. However our experience was positive. There is a very large selection of both Asian and American food so there is something for everyone. The food we had was tasty- shrimp and chicken and spare ribs were very good. The noodles were not the best-not hot and somewhat soggy. However other than that we felt the food was tasty and generally heated properly. There also was a decent selection of desserts. The waitress we had was attentive and very pleasant. Alot of food for 10.99 and all in all a good experience. Rating a restaurant is a very subjective thing. My friend who went with me to New Town Buffet absolutely loved it, proclaiming it some of the best Chinese food she's ever had. I, on the other hand, thought it was quite abysmal. My friend loaded up on the fried foods, two plates worth. I, on the other hand, don't do fried foods which meant there was very little left to pick from at the buffet. I did have the wonton soup which was pitiful. Bland would be an overstatement. I put together a plate of food for the Mongolian BBQ. Their choices were rather limited compared to other places I've been to (no snow peas for instance!). My biggest disappointment was that they had no ginger to put into it. I asked if they could get me some tofu to put into it but they said they didn't have any. When it came time for desert I thought at least they couldn't screw that up too much, right? Well, the soft serve was good. The almond cookie was probably one of the worst I've had, kind of mealy and lacking in taste. All the other deserts just didn't call me at all, looking like they came straight from a cheap food store, so I ignored them completely. Well, at least there's the fortune cookie! The fortunes were lame and so were the cookies. My friend cannot wait to go back. Me? Yeah, no thanks! Clearly it depends on your tolerance and acceptance of unhealthy foods. If you love fried type Chinese foods, you'll love this place. If, on the other hand, you prefer your Chinese foods on the lighter side, skip this place and look for something else. read more

As seen on my check in, I was hesitant with going. I saw so many mixed reviews, so naturally....now happily I report I have lost all hesitation with this buffet. Not overly salty. Great friendly service. Clean (noted the use of gloves at the grill station and sushi station). Tasty food. Variety. Freshness. All the things I look for in a Chinese buffet. I call this a win. My husband has declared this a win. We will defiantly be back when we are craving the Chinese foods. Try the Hawaiian chicken, general tso chicken, beef and broccoli, the cream cheese puffs. I have several food allergies and sometimes it isn't always easy to find a place to eat and still find plenty to choose from. I don't have that problem here. I have not had a bad experience yet. My husband and I really enjoy it here. I'm pretty sure this place is owned by whoever runs U-Like Buffet on Oracle Road. Same food, atmosphere, decor, et cetera. We go to both, depending on our errends. Anyway, my husband and I love it. I cannot complain about endless wontons. The food is delicious and kept warm. My husband loves the sushi buffet. I love the Japanese chicken. It's always so tender and fantastic. Everything is just delicious. The ONLY thing I dislike is the orange chicken. It tasted like plain soy sauce. Otherwise, all is great. The selection is quite large and actually kept fairly fresh. Everything is clean. I love that I can always find something for my picky toddler. The fruit is good and nothing ever looks old. They have good desserts. It's all yummy. The staff is also very nice. The ladies always play with our kids and they are so sweet. We really enjoy it there. It's the place we go when we just want something we know we will like, and we might even take my in-laws there when they visit from Utah. Oh, something nice is it's nursing friendly. I can request a corner booth with phone charger for privacy and nurse my son with no issues. A huge plus. read more

Was just OK, I don't think its a tourist trap. I think a lot of regulars go there. For $10.99 you shouldn't expect to much for your basic Chinese Buffet. Other option is a McDonald's meal for $7. Four more dollars you can go back for 2nds, 3rds, and soft serve ice cream.
