I am absolutely in love with Wei Asian Café's home style tofu! As someone who is water chestnut-adverse, I can't tell you how thrilled I am that they don't automatically add them to this dish. Instead, it's a perfect mix of tofu and vegetables, all coated in their rich, flavorful brown sauce. What really sets them apart is how they prepare their tofu. This is the only restaurant I've found in Tucson that actually presses the tofu properly--getting all the water out so it can fully soak up the amazing flavors. It makes such a huge difference, and they nail it every time. I live on the west side, but whenever my friends suggest Wei for lunch, I get so excited to make the trip. Food-Ordered my go-to dish General Tso's Chicken. Can't say that I've ever had a soy sauce based Tso's dish but that is what you get here. The chicken was fine but I even asked about the sauce and the guy confirmed that yes this is in fact GEN Tso's chicken. Everything else was great food wise. I've been going to this place for years. But I had not been here since the format change and/or change of ownership. I don't like it anymore. First of all they charge ME a convenience fee for ordering online. Seems to me this is a convenience for them. They don't have to answer the phone. The food Mongolian chicken, Chicken vegetables and egg rolls were very lacking in the protein and flavors. The egg rolls were poorly made, one bite and the whole inside pulls out in your mouth. We had 4 of them, all the same. What's up with this place? The War wonton soup was pretty good. That's a plus. There are too many good options available for me to consider a visit here again. Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - one of the dishes was great but the other two were meh.... Salted Squid with Hot Jalapeño Pepper (Chef's Recommendation #12) 5/5 - was battered and fried squid with some bro and peppers. Flavor and texture was great with a hint of sweetness, some saltiness, and ends with a great kick! Mongolian Beef (Beef Dish #15) 2/5 - is typically a beef dish marinated with soy sauce and brown sugar then fried with some ginger, chili peppers, and green onion. Corn starch may be used to thicken the sauce. We got a dish that was 75% onion and 15% green onion then just little pieces of meat drenched in sugar and sauce. The texture of the meat was oddly soft to where it almost disintegrate as you bite it. For something that was recommended, we couldn't finish the dish Cantonese Lo Mein with Pork 2/5 - the noodles were very short and choppy. Not much flavor to the dish other than saltiness from soy sauce At the bottom of the box. Would not have been able to tell you the protein if we didn't order it Ambience: n/a - ordered food to go. Restaurant was nicely decorated but a bit dim inside. Many to go orders but no one eating in the store Service: 5/5 - very friendly and was able to give recommendations. From conversation we heard, it sounds like it's a family ran business and the cashier has been working there for 8-9 years Value for price: 2/5 - food was hit or miss but the pricing or what they charged us for wasn't clear since they don't provide receipt with item charge. Finally, a decent Chinese restaurant on the east side of town. Flavors were good. Not outstanding, mind you, but good enough. Definitely not up to par with my favorites on the west side of town (China Szechwan, Jun Dynasty, Guilin, Noodleholics). But it will do. We had the cashew chicken and the beef broccoli. I always get beef broccoli to get a baseline on the restaurant. The beef and the broccoli were plentiful. The beef was tender. The broccoli just a tad tough, not too big of a deal. Cashew chicken was flavorful, but I would liked to have had about 15%, 20% more chicken and about 100% more cashews. I added cashews to it. But it was good. It has chopped water chestnuts in it, which I liked, and mushrooms from a can, not a big deal. A note about the rice. It was slightly larger grained than the usual long grain Chinese rice and was sticky. I liked it. My favorite rice is Japanese rice and this was close to it. The stickiness made it easier to eat with chopsticks and soaks up the sauce more. This was a take out order and the container of rice they gave was larger than the usual size you get for Chinese take out and I appreciated that, too. Service was good. I walked in, ordered, and 10 minutes later was out the door. They were not busy and I think only one phone order ahead of me, but I heard him tell the kitchen that I was a waiting customer. I never leave negative reviews but I am so very disappointed that the Wei Asian we've known and loved for years is no more. Apparently under new management. The pork egg rolls are slender with little filling and too much wrapper, the BBQ pork fried rice is flavorless and the sesame beef was flabby not crunchy and has an off putting flavor. This unassuming hole-in-the-wall is in a strip mall at the southwest corner of Golf Links and Harrison. Someone on my Nextdoor website was looking for a Chinese restaurant in the hood and everyone overwhelmingly recommended this place. I went down on a Wednesday night. There were a few tables occupied, so seating was plentiful. The two of us started with a Thai Beef Salad - it was excellent. Red and Green peppers, scallions, tomatoes sat on a bed of lettuce, with a nice pungent tamarind dressing. The beef was tender and grilled to perfection. For main courses we had were Orange Chicken (looked unassuming but was packed with bright flavor), Squid with Vegetables (really recommended), and Pad Thai. All were tasty, well executed, and had tons of flavor. Between the Thai and Chinese cuisines ordered, both stood true to authentic flavors. The Pad Thai could have used more bean sprouts for crunch and more limes on the plate to squeeze over. I will return. About ten minutes from my house, and I'm sure the food to go would hold up by the time you got home. read more

Wei Asian Cafe does delivery! One of the "gems" of the Eastside, this spot serves up major varieties of Asian cuisine. Granted, the majority of the dishes in the menu is mostly Chinese food but they have some Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, and more. So far, I had a craving for pad thai and their take has beef, shrimp, and chicken all in one dish! It was different but good. If you're wanting Vietnamese, they do have pho or bun thit nuong (grilled porkchop over vermicelli) or the spring rolls. The other dish that I really enjoyed from this place is the Eggplant with garlic sauce, which isn't always great in most delivery places but really packed well from them. I've never tried to dine in pre-covid times but from the quality of the delivery I'm sure the food is worth the try especially with the minimal options for Asian food this side of town. read more

I give this place 5 stars if you go Friday or Saturday nights. The best chef must be on duty those nights, because the food is always excellent. We especially like the vegetable egg foo yung, lo mein, kung pao whatever, and sesame whatever. Moo shu is pretty good, and our son adores the miso soup with tofu and seaweed. I visited Wei's after reading a review in the Daily Star. They offer an extremely diverse array of food, including Cantonese, Szechuan, Thai, Korean, & Vietnamese. The lunch special is offered 7 days per week, ranges in price from $7.82-$8.82. Lunch includes soup (hot& sour, or egg flower) an egg roll, and rice (steamed or bbq fried rice). Deciding which of the 20 dishes to try was a challenge, but I ended up ordering the Szechuan fish, hot and sour soup, and steamed rice. Every table gets wonton chips and sweet and sour sauce. I enjoyed the soup, the egg roll was unremarkable, and the fish was delicious and unlike any other I've had. It consists of 4-5 pieces of lightly fried delicate white fish, rich brown gravy, and what I assume are frozen vegetables. Impressively, the crispy crust survived the gravy. While it was a salt bomb, I loved it. They have a number of lobster dishes, which was interesting, though perhaps not enough to actually order. However, I will be returning to try the Peking Duck. read more

Spent $60!! I'll start by saying that I use to come here all the time when I was younger. It was close to my parents house so I would frequent it often. It's probably been 2 plus years since I had been here and I was very disappointed in the food. When you first walk in there is a display of a Buddha and it had so much dust on it clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. My wife and I sat down the server was very nice got our drinks order. I ordered Pepsi wife got tea both tasted weird and an appetizer. We got "the volcano" sounded good a sample of several different things. It was plated well but an absolute waste of money $18.99 and not good at all I wish I had taken pictures. The chicken wings were so small and not seasoned, nothing was seasoned just very disappointing for almost $20 bucks. Entrée I got Mongolian beef my wife got teriyaki chicken neither was bad but not great. My wife had mushrooms in her teriyaki chicken and she hates mushrooms but there is no descriptions on the menu. Over all it's expensive little dirty and I would definitely stay away from the volcano unfortunately I probably won't go back read more
