We've been coming to this bakery for over 15 years, (I went to the high school across the street) and no matter how far we move or how many other places we try, we always find our way back to Koreatown for their amazing cakes and desserts. From birthday celebrations to graduations and every special moment in between, this little hidden gem has been part of so many memories for our family. We live about 30 miles away, but it is always worth the drive. The cakes are incredibly light and airy, the fruit is always fresh, and the buttercream is honestly some of the best we've ever had. I was visiting my friend Robert up the street. I decided to walk to his place and then walk back home. I rarely walk around my neighborhood. I admit that I have seen this bakery many times in passing but never stopped to look at the inside and what they have. Who doesn't love a good sweet treat? I do! This bakery was around the block from where I grew up in Ktown. We would get random pastries but the most unique one was the croquette. Deep fried flakey exterior but the inside had a mix of vegetables (potato, slivers of carrot). I'm not sure if it was vegetarian or had some small amounts of ground meat. It was very good. I have stopped by since my childhood just to get a bunch of them. I think they are vegetarian as they did not seem to have meat in them or the recipe change possibly. They're not as amazing as I thought growing up but still good. Very hard to find any bakery or stores making croquettes or korokke. I've been told that this bakery has been around forever. I wanted to pick up a birthday cake for my boyfriend's birthday dinner, was in a rush, and this place was on my walk home from work. The store has a completely family-owned-style feel. They have an impressive variety of cakes, cheesecakes, tres leches cakes, pastries, cookies, almond cookies, red bean donuts, palmiers, pizza topping pastries, sandwiches, roll cakes, brownies, cream pan.... Anything you can think of! In addition to full-size cakes, they sell individually-wrapped pastries and slices from around $1 - $3. They do themed children's cakes and wedding cakes too. I ordered a medium-sized mocha cake for $20, which I'm sure would have been more expensive elsewhere. The sweet woman who was helping me (who seems like she may be the owner) offered me a plastic knife and candles, wrote my boo's name on the cake, and asked if I lived close by. I told her I did, and she told me, "Here's a sample for you to try!" and put a wrapped sugar donut in the bag, too. I was out the door with everything I needed in less than a few minutes. Everyone loved the cake at dinner. It was light, spongy and fluffy, with a good, natural mocha flavor and not too sweet. The KBBQ waitresses asked for slices after cutting it, then asked if they could have the rest if we didn't finish it. LOL! I've stopped by on my walks home from work for cheap matcha roll slices or pastries when I have a sweet tooth attack.... Never more than a few bucks and always good. If you ever try to visit this place, the line going into the store should tell you it's reputation is no secret. The lady who works at the register speaks English, Spanish, AND Korean. I visited with my now husband several times and we were always floored by her efficiency, language proficiency, and customer service. She is so sweet. I had them make my wedding cake. At first, my husband and I wanted a modern fondant cake and were getting quotes from several places, but our wedding vendors consistently recommended this place so we had to give it a try. We were disappointed at first that they no longer decorate their cakes with fondant, but immediately after we were given a sample of their vanilla cream cake, we were sold. There is no competition when it comes to the taste and consistency of their cake. Our florist made sure our cake was stunning for photos.
