I haven't written a review in over three years- but after the experience I had here it felt completely necessary. My Macbook Pro, my files, and my wallet-- were saved! I went to the Apple Genius Bar this past afternoon, and was told my computer was not able to be fixed, and that I probably wouldn't be able to get data off of it. The technician (and two other employees) I spoke with said they could "try" to fix it, but it would have cost around $600, with no guarantee of the Macbook actually running again. There was no specific reason my laptop stopped working, I opened it one morning and it wouldn't turn on. So to hear from Apple that I'd have to buy a new computer seemed ridiculous. I began to question the geniuses behind the 'genius bar'. Hours later, I was looking at prices of new Macbook Book Pros (mind you, my current computer, that was deemed "broken" by Apple, is less then two years old). I was frustrated to say the least, and remembered this place that my brother had brought his computer to a couple years back- so I googled it and was re-introduced to New York Computer Help, I'm so glad I did. The staff were extremely kind and understanding. As for my computer-- after about an hour at New York Computer Help it was as good as new. ALL of my documents, pictures, and data are in tact, and my laptop was fixed for a reasonable price-- to say I was relieved would be an understatement. Lessons learned- I went to New York City computer help to get my mid 2009 MacBook Pro fixed on April 5, 2018. I needed to upgrade the ram and I knew it needed dire improvements. I am a musician, singer songwriter, and producer. My major is Cinema and Television, so I use my computer everyday. I edit reels and video, and radio commercials. I also have a podcast on SoundCloud named The Black Gypsy. They informed me they can rush everything and fix it properly so that it can be fixed and running by the end of the next day. Nevertheless, they offered to get me another mouse, which was an okay solution. I live In a foreign country and just was visiting and thought this would be a great place to fix my computer before I head to another place more deserted than where I am at now. My computer had major issues since it was so old, but Patrick did what he could while the computer was in his hands. I arrived back in Mexico with minor glitches so i immediately called Patrick. He was able to disable my trackpad and also get my computer to run successfully, without the glitches. Patrick was able to complete this remotely! I was highly impressed and satisfied by the service I received at this establishment. Thank goodness i don't have to worry and stress over "Old Faithful!" (Thats my computer) To even better the customer service, Joe, which i assume is the manager of the store took off some money for my troubles of being out of a computer and not being able to work my first night back in Mexico. I spilled a giant cup of liquid on my laptop and it immediately shut off and wouldn't turn back on. I called one store closer to my apartment that refused to quote me a price range for checking my laptop and said they'd need to keep it with them for days. This place deserves the five star rating it has. I came here after my laptop spontaneously shut off and then wouldn't restart. They quickly diagnosed the problem and gave me a quote as well as options on how I could proceed. I chose the option that best fit my needs and they were able to fix it by noon the next day (I dropped it off at 6 the night before and they close at 7). My 2015 MacBook Air crashed, and the screen went dark. I called Apple support and after a few attempts to reboot, they suggested I google a "data recovery place near me". The first place that came up was New York Computer Help. I was frankly overwhelmed by all of the amazing reviews for everything from service to expertise to fairness and price. It seemed a bit over the top, but there were a lot of happy people who are far more tech-savvy than I (I'm 73 and have had some incarnation of an Apple computer since 1994). So I decided to give them a try. The magic of the guys at NYCH began as soon as I called. They were kind and thoughtful (I was really nervous that I had lost my entire life, since I had been an idiot and hadn't backed up my computer since my last external hard drive had died and I hadn't gotten around to buying another during the pandemic...) and not at all judgmental. They told me it would be a couple of hours to determine if they could recover the data and, if that was possible, they would call me and let me know, at which point it would be about 24-48 hours before I could pick up the hard drive. They called me in less than 2 hours, and said "yes" and gave me a price of $300 to do the recovery. I was thrilled! In the meantime, I went to Apple and bought a new MacBook Air and found out that Apple no longer transfers data from an external hard drive (only from computer to computer). So, when I went to pick up the hard drive, I asked if they could also transfer the data to my new laptop. And...another "yes" from the guys. It was ready before they said it would be. They even helped me not be too scared about setting things up and walked me through the beginning sign-in and getting familiar with my new laptop. They made me feel so comfortable! The staff was extremely nice and helpful they definitely seem to know what they were talking about I didn't have to wait forever for them to do a diagnostic to tell me what was wrong with my laptop and I would definitely recommend this place to other people. Until last week, I ran out of options to resolve my custom built PC that won't boot and faulty USB ports. NY Computer Help was able to quickly diagnose the issue and provide a resolution. I am an Emmy nominated composer who has scored Emmy and Oscar winning film projects. I had a 20 year old project on old hard drives that suddenly, I had to refer to for a new project. Since the drives were very old, I had originally thought I would have these guys install them into an old Mac G4 Id bought online for this occasion and purpose. Bringing the computer and drives to these guys, they didnt install the drives but rather, copied the drives onto a new drive. To my disappointment, bringing the new drive home, all of the data had somehow, been transferred as Unix files. This caused me to miss a deadline on the new gig. When I told them, they suggested I bring the drives - and the old computer - back to them. This time, they asked me to bring TWO new hard drives telling me that, this time, they would "clone" rather than copy the older drives. They refused to install the original drives into the old G4 - this time, saying that the computer could handle only a single drive (this is untrue - look it up). At the shop - I insisted on looking at the allegedly cloned material. It was - and is - useless. Now, this was a small job for them - costing only $160 (along, of course, with my reputation with a client) so, maybe it had no priority for them. But this was extremely important for me - and now, the job I was going to be creating using this old material has been cancelled - because, for the first time in my career, I missed the deadline not once - but twice. What Id asked for was a simple issue; install additional drives into an old computer - - drives that were taken from my old G4 and which, were still working. They refused to do this - and instead, for reasons I cannot understand, insisted on copying and then, when that failed, "cloning" the drives. They failed and, when Id explained this to them, they had no regrets; none. If they failed on so simple a task, I shudder to think how they might comport themselves on serious and more critical issues. Avoid this place. That's my advice - learned, the hard way. read more

My beloved laptop crashed 2 years ago and I remember feeling devastated as I stared endlessly at the blue screen of death when that happened. I felt utterly hopeless that I was not able to back-up my 10 plus years worth of pictures. My husband found New York Computer Help and read all the amazing reviews about this place. I decided to check it out and brought my laptop in. While the people there said they were able to recover my files, my colleague found out about my situation and graciously offered to help me instead. I let my colleague take care of it and in the end, less than half of my pictures were recovered. The only pictures recovered were those dated after 2014 which meant he was unable to recover several thousands of pictures taken since 2006. He noted that my hard drive was severely damaged and tried to salvage as much as he could. Nevertheless, I was still happy that he was able to recover all my other files so I left it at that. Fast forward to today, a close friend of mine passed away and their family was reaching out to their friends and family members to send in pictures we all had with him. My external hard drive port had come loose and drawn itself inside the case, so I could no longer connect. Walked in without an appointment -- they took a look right away. Within minutes the technician had determined a part of the case had snapped off. They put the drive inside a new case and I was out of there in less than 30 minutes total. A failed Windows 10 update left my laptop completely unable to boot. I brought in a 2013 MacBook Pro with a dead battery and a hard drive so full it couldn't boot up, plus a an external hard-drive with a busted "port." I'd taken the hard drive to two previous repair shops. One charged me $30 to take it apart, only to tell me it was beyond repair. Another took a look and quoted me $150+ to migrate my data to another drive. $85 and two hours later, NYCH sent me home with my hard drive inside a spiffy new casing. The laptop was a pricier repair, but the team walked me through the pros and cons of doing the repair vs. scrapping the computer and buying a new one. In the end, I did the repair, and they even threw in a gently used battery to soften the financial blow.
