Both my internal PC hard-drive and my external hard-drive broke, containing the same files of photos and videos that were my memories throughout the years. They replaced the keyboard-palm rest assembly for $110, below the lowest price in the estimate range by these people. I put down a deposit of $300 for the repair on the condition that they wouldn't need to open it in a clean room. It turned out they did require a clean room though and getting data off the drives would be extremely expensive (understandably). However they put in a lot of work to diagnose the problem. I came in here a few months ago to have my Dell laptop checked on after some water damage. While still functioning, the trackpad was buggy and sometimes would stop responding. I emailed NY Computer Help about my issue and received a reply promptly. I went in the next day to drop off my laptop and later received a call same-day to pick it up. It turned out that they couldn't find anything wrong with it and it seemed to be working fine again. I was surprised and was totally expecting to have my trackpad replaced. I had a MacBook Pro with a defective screen. I brought my computer in with a new screen that I had purchased myself, and they replaced my MacBook screen while I waited.....about 40 minutes. The price for installation was reasonable, $125 plus tax, and they did a professional job. I had originally intended to install the screen myself, but since I'm a klutz, I didn't want to take the chance of doing it myself. I would inevitably end up with a ripped internal cable, a screw lost somewhere in the case, or other disaster. So I'm glad I had these guys do it. Anyway, I had already tried two places, one lab in California who was unable to retrieve the data and another efficient spot in Manhattan that couldn't get the data either. So that's two places that couldn't get the stuff off the drive and NYCH makes number three. However, they were helpful in guiding me through the process, being up front about the fees, and telling me in a kind manner that the data on my drive is not retrievable. I suggest to anyone reading to always ask about what EXACTLY is being done to your computer (what exact parts are being changed, and what exact parts they are replacing it with). Then, take a day before you commit to having them repair your computer to see if you can fix it yourself! These people wanted to charge me $125 for a battery replacement - but I found an excellent battery for $55 on amazon and guess what? Replacing it was SO EASY. All it took was a youtube tutorial. (saved $70!) These people wanted to charge me $225 for a hard drive replacement. Found a 500g SSD for $80 on amazon and guess what? Replacing it was SO EASY! All it took was a youtube tutorial. (saved $145) (total saved: $215) Look, I know businesses need to make money.... but you shouldn't go to a professional for a fix that you can do yourself. Save your money for when you ACTUALLY need some serious shit to be repaired. For example, I have another laptop that has a logic board failure and am wondering if I am over my head trying to replace it myself... I will definitely try :) but will go back to these people if I cannot do it myself. ($600 is painful though...) Anyways, if you are always looking to save money like I do, please know that there are MILLIONS of tutorials online where you are walked step by step through the process of fixing whatever issue you have. Its worth just to take a look, before paying so much money.... AND NEVER go to a professional to fix a cracked screen (ios)... it is SOO EASYY to do yourself (and a replacement screen costs $10-$20 on ebay!!). And no, I have NO experience with computers AT ALL.
