Ahh... New York Subway has such a fond place in my heart. Its easily the best sandwich to get in DFW. I always order the #7 (Salami Cappacola Cheese) on wheat, everything on it (including mayo and mustard). For 6 dollars, how can you beat a tasty, fresh foot long sub? I will say, I have some pointers for first timers 1. The people who work here are not bright and cheery like you would receive at a Chili's. I dont have a problem with this, because I hate insincerity, but some people may be rubbed the wrong way. 2. Compared to New York Sub Hub, they DO NOT TOAST the bread. I feel bummed about this sometimes, but its really not a big deal the moment I sink my teeth into these bad boys. 3. The bread is pretty thick, and needs some lubrication.CONDIMENTS ARE A MUST!!! 4. These sandwiches can get messy. Don't try to eat these in the car (unless you want to stain your shirt). This place is worth your time, money, and tastebuds. The man helping me was rude. He seemed upset I was there. I ordered the tuna. It was awful. Subway is better than this was. The tuna was so dry. Like it had no mayo in it. The bread tasted hard and stale. If the man was nicer I probably would have returned it as I only took 1 bite. But I honestly don't feel like dealing with his attitude problem. $4.00 wasted for a nasty sub. read more

I've been going to New York Subway for years because it was the best sandwich shop in Denton but they have now lost my service. I got home, unwrapped my sandwich and what's stuck to the bottom!? Someone's nasty a** bandaid! I never write reviews but this could not be passed up. Yes I did post a picture to google and no I won't be coming back. What a let down. This happened on 8/2/19 and I'm almost certain the manager is the one that made my sandwich that day and none of the people behind the counter had gloves on. read more

Most unfriendly and unprofessional staff I think I've ever experienced... The employee who kind of took our order (wrote it down after asking "HUH?!" twice, then dropped the pen and walked off) was openly fighting with the owner about what he gets paid. And after all that, the owner just walked off, too, not even acknowledging what was going down in front of customers. No employee would make eye contact with us. They all seemed genuinely annoyed we were even there and actually wanted food. Even though it's the same sandwich off the same menu, I swear the food at the other locations even tasted better. Maybe it was all that customer service sprinkled in...hmmm.... Go to the Avenue C location. They have manners. And serious sandwich skills. read more

This is my favorite sandwich place in the whole world. The staff is really friendly, and the sandwiches are always delicious and fresh. The bread is soft and perfect. Not to mention, the prices are great for how much food you get. Most of the sandwiches are $3-$4 dollars, and they don't skimp on the meat and veggies. I have literally been coming to this place for 30 years. I have considered this to be my go to when I couldn't figure out what I wanted to eat. I have been very satisfied up until about a couple of years ago. I have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food and tonight sealed the deal for me. I ALWAYS get the ALL STOPS and tonight it was very bland and the bread was very dense and just wasn't tasty. This sandwich was very disappointing. Shout out to New York Sub Way for staying open during the rolling blackouts of the winter storm earlier this year. Everything else was closed, and not stocking up on supplies before hand, we were almost out of groceries for the week. If they'd toast your sub at this location and fire the 48 yr old guy that's worked there for ten years or so and puts even less mayo or oil & vinegar than normal when you ask for extra I'd give 5 stars. This place completely destroys subway. I realize that's not saying much because of the obvious overpriced and low quality of subway but seriously if you're wasting your currency at subway you've been missing out. This place is excellent, not insane prices and the only drawbacks I can think of is charging for jalapeños and not toasting your sub. The other location toasts and it's ridiculously amazing. Definitely worth checking out if you get someone other than the petty guy I'm referencing to make your sandwich or it's going to be 80% less of different ingredients than expected. The younger african heritage man will do an extremely better job if you can get him and he'll actually make what you're ordering. Really proper attitude too read more

I almost didn't venture in due to other Yelpers' rude service reviews. Came in around 9 on a weeknight; dining room held 2 other customers. Walked up and Mr. David teased me almost immediately lol. I don't think he's rude though. He reminds me of a papa who is grouchy on purpose. It's more amusing than anything else; he made me laugh. & he struck me as a man who has tons of life stories I might want to hear if he'd be willing to share. His son, Jared, was quiet and polite. Food? #1 with bacon & cherry peppers added. No complaints. Everything is sliced and made right in front of you...sprinkled with a little sass from Mr. David. Ask for extra mayo or oil/vinegar if you like your sandwich a little on the moist side. I'll return to try other items. read more

My husband grew up in Denton and he has always told me that this was one of his favorite places to eat. He took me here while we were dating (though I am not really a sandwich person) but I actually really enjoyed it. They truly put subway to shame. Great flavor, fresh veggies, lots of chip choices. And they even have that little tiny ice that makes drinks taste even better and that you can much on afterwards. Anytime I am in the Denton area I like to try and make a special trip to New York Sub Way. Its good stuff! read more

Ok so first I have to say, being a New Yorker, I take it very seriously when places advertise its New York-ness, I expect it to be owned by a New Yorker or operated by a New Yorker or taste like a New Yorker cooked it or at least taught by a New Yorker! I was attracted to this Sub shop that I drove by frequently & always wanted to try it- because of the nostalgia of the New York name & subway tokens & signage all over! So today I decided to try it- It's very "New York-y" in there & an older man made my sandwich & a younger man made my husband's sandwich- they both were very nice & after ordering a pastrami with cheese toasted (a NY best) - only to find out that they don't have a toaster (hmmm odd for a sandwich shop) but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. While waiting for our sandwiches to be made, the older man told me (after I asked) that no one in there was a New Yorker, the owner is from New Jersey but Texans run it! Hmmmm... Which now explains why these were regular tasting sandwiches, nothing special, nothing nostalgic, nothing like a New York Sub! Don't get me wrong, It wasn't bad but it definitely didn't give me that NY vibe of a deli sub sandwich! If you're looking for that NY experience? Skip it! Eh! The curiosity was met! This place is an underrated, off the grid type of sandwich place. I love supporting local businesses, and this place doesn't disappoint. The bread is always soft and fresh (even the wheat bread). Vegetables are cut all the time behind the counter, so you know Its fresh. The decor is okay, and I wish there were more vegetable options but that may mess with the minimalistic vibe. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who thinks this place is being undermined by the bad attitude. My advice to anyone coming here is you better be sure you know EXACTLY what you want because they are inflexible and rude about even minor modifications to your order. A couple of minutes (at most) after placing my order I noticed a sign on the front of the counter that had been out of view behind the people ahead of me in line: "These items 25 cents extra." With no one behind me in line, I politely asked if I could add an additional ingredient and the guy making the sandwiches grumpily spat out, "Nope. No do-overs. You know the rules."
