A consistently great lunch spot. We come to New York Teriyaki on 72nd Avenue every few months, and we always end up ordering the same dishes because they're just that good. I get the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl and my spouse gets the Pork Teriyaki Bowl. Both are flavorful, generous, and reliably delicious -- and we always have enough left over to enjoy the rest for lunch later the same day. Prices aren't bad (especially in today's climate) and portions lean large. The Not as Good: Food quality, at least for what we had, was marginal. It's probably hard to serve such a wide menu and get everything right. Food wasn't bad. Just not very good. I hope they can up their game on at least some dishes - or, maybe I need to order different next time. Not sure if there will be a next time. The name should probably tell you something. A local suggested we try it, otherwise we probably wouldn't have. Full disclaimer: we are very accustomed to good Asian food (at various price points), particularly Japanese food. Yes yes and yes. I needed some Asian food and the only Asian food in the area consists of places that offer sushi, teriyaki, and other stuff all in one place. So it's no wonder I found myself here. I needed protein so I got the chicken and gyoza combo with light sauce. The portion size was exactly what I had heard: generous. Perfect, because it ended up being two meals for me. The salad was a bust: iceberg lettuce with way too much sauce. Bleh. But the chicken was grilled perfectly and more than anything, the gyoza was perfec and crispy (cue Asian food). We did takeout from this location last night and dined in a few times in the past. I love how big their portions are and food arrived hot. My husband got a burger and fries and the fries weren't soggy plus gave plenty. I got the chicken & beef combination. It was good but wish they tossed some in teriyaki sauce. They literally had it "naked" with sauce on the side. I even ordered a side of steamed veggies which was high in price at $8.95 for a small container. With a number of New York teriyaki spots in town, I was initially hesitant to go to many of these. After experiencing a number of them however, they have definitely become more endearing and have started to be one of those spots that we go when we don't know what we really want for dinner. We tend to get standard pork and chicken teriyaki. If you get it with extra meat, one plate is more than enough to feed two people and sometimes the kids as well! We tend to get an order of gyoza as well, and it tends to be a good filler is anybody remains hungry afterwards. They also have surprisingly good sushi for a place that specializes in sauce laden meats. Not the sort of place that you go to impress your newest object of affection, but definitely a place you can go once you have established that there is mutual affection! The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that you get, the folks running the place are very nice and really go out of their way to make sure that people are taken care of. Always fast large portions on the Teriyaki and tasty. I live a few blocks away so get takeout regularly. Allso if I'm not as hungry and want a lighter meal they have good sushi I'll usually get rainbow roll or occasionally sashimi always fresh tasting . I don't think they have ever screwed up my order even when busy. read more

The food is fine, but the consistency in the menu and customer service is absolute crap. Even though it's the same chain and the rolls all have the same name, which is just stupid BTW, they have different ingredients. So if you make the mistake and find the wrong menu, they don't really care. I ordered the Hawaiian roll which turned out to be totally the wrong food and has shrimp, which I can't eat. Terrible. We ordered chicken katsu, fried rice & steamed gyoza. The steamed gyoza was great. The rest of our dinner was downhill. The chicken katsu was way overcooked, very thin pieces of chicken which were cooked to the point of being burned, very dry, and flavorless. The "fried" rice was basically steamed rice with a few peas & carrots thrown in and perhaps sauteed for a couple of minutes. This was not even close to being fried rice. Whoever is doing the cooking here has no clue as to what Japanese food is. This may be what is served in New York as "Teriyaki", however I can assure you that the food we purchased does not even come close to resembling any food served in Japan (having lived in Tokyo for 5 years). We will not be returning to New York Teriyaki anytime soon. read more

Do not order to go for lunch on a weekday here. I called in my order, the lady told me 15mins didn't get there till 25 mins from the call and my food still wasn't ready. I waited another 5 mins then asked about how much longer since I only had a 30 min lunch and she doesn't even bother giving me a time. Food wasn't complete until another 10 mins had pass, picked up my food headed back ready to clock back into work. Why would you tell me 15 mins if it would take 30 mins to prepare the food. Just moved here and have already visited this place twice! First time my friend got take out and it was delicious! The second time was tonight and the seaweed salad was off. I love the food here and have been returning here for a long time! sushi is always delicious and bento box is a great deal! The Employees are always super nice and always ask if you want a refill on drinks unlike some restaurants! Let me start by saying the food here is great! We have loved everything we ordered and lots of options for a big family. My daughter is on a special diet but she can do sushi so this is a great option for us. Sadly, we have ordered take out 3 times and had an issue with our order each time. One time they didn't give us one of our bags of food and we had to go back. Two other times we ordered the special bento box and got something totally different. I could understand if they had switched to take out recently but they have always done take out! It seems like there is an issue somewhere that I hope they can fix. We've enjoyed the 3 times we have eaten here in the past 4 months. The only draw back is the fried rice tends to be a little sticky and over cooked a little or at least made and sitting for awhile. The sushi roles were great and tasted nice. The teriyaki chicken was better than the teriyaki steak.
