Large concrete snake/caterpillar kids love climbing on
    Jay P.

Fun park for the kids, its two playgrounds right next to each other with the largest and most memorable feature being a colorful concrete snake/caterpillar the kids love climbing on. It's large enough for the kids to race on and a good place to develop climbing skills. On the opposite side there is also a chest high climbing wall for the kids with built in caves and scoops. Since it is so large it's easy to find space for your kids to go on swings or the play structures. Less plastic and more metal is used on the play structures and have a durable and long lasting quality evident with how well its holding up despite the aged paint and dings and nicks. There are tennis courts on site as well as basketball courts. The parking lot if very close to the playground and tennis courts.

Nice medium sized community park, not super crowded or full of goose poop like Lake Elizabeth! Row of large mature trees to provide shade. First come, first served BBQ grills (non reservable) and concrete picnic tables. Great for outdoor BBQ party. Bathrooms are decent for public park. Parking lot ok size but street parking available.

Playground in back, benches all over

Newark's parks have lots of space but not many amenities. there's limited parking on site. more parking nearby. amenities: benches all over, large grass area, walkways, tennis courts, hoops, children's playground, swings. baseball field nearby. tall trees all over.

A park that has everything you might need. Basketball court, tennis courts, walking paths and playgrounds. Next to this park is a large field for playing baseball. The field appears to be well maintained as is the whole park in general. Lots of old trees and a few in bloom as it is currently spring.

Very nice park, we stopped here to let the kids play while waiting for a restaurant to open. It's got a pretty nice set up for kids to run and play or swing. Has an area mostly fenced off for younger kids and then an area for bigger kids to play too. I'm sure there is more to it than what I saw, but we just needed something for kids to play, release some energy and kill 30 minutes until we could go eat. Everything appeared clean and in good working condition. There were quite a few parents there and everyone was friendly and attentive to their children (not staring at phones, which is great to see).

Lovely park for a Sunday afternoon. I happened on this park based on my location and I found it to be so fun for my toddler and friend. There is a tiny tot park as well as a park for older children. It's well maintained. There are a few seagulls lurking around for scraps of food

    Caterpillar to climb on.

This park has hardly changed since it opened back in 1968. The city has done a good job of keeping it up. Walking through it will take you back in time. There are two separate play areas for kids of different ages. Tennis, handball, and basketball courts are up for grabs. Nice walking paths with plenty of benches along the way. The wooden picnic tables are being replaced with metal ones. If you want one, get here early, as they go fast on the weekends. Two parking lots are available, one on Newark Blvd convenient to picnicking and the tennis courts, with another larger one on Cedar Blvd; but parking there is shared with the Community Center. The only negative is the bathrooms. They are either dirty or closed. Someone should come by occasionally and look after them.

I'm the first to review this park? Wow. This is a local favorite for Newark residents and it has been here for YEARS. It is part of the Newark Community Center, right in the heart of the city. It has charm to it and features many playground structures that you no longer see any more (see below) Play structure: Older, but still good quality and sturdy. Charming. Definitely not the 'new' steel structures you see at parks built within the last 5 years. This is not a pro nor a con, it's just different. Plenty of swings, slides. There are two separate playgrounds, one for big kids and another for tots. Ground material: Tan bark. Old. They should replace the tan bark, in my opinion. Unique aspects: This playground is VERY UNIQUE. That's why we love it. There is a huge climb-able cement caterpillar, painted with fun bright colors. Kids LOVE to climb on top of it and slide down it's smooth slide-like body. There are also several fictitious 'caves' created out of cement. So fun for kids to play hide and seek or just chill out inside the little dugout openings in these Dr. Seuss like structures. Restrooms: Yes, I think so. Grass: Plenty! Great for running around, playing a game, lying on grass for a picnic. Picnic Tables: Can't remember, need to update later. Shade: YES! Love this. Even the play structures have ample shade. Great on hot days, don't have to worry about kids getting burned. Downside, it can be a bit chilly on mild days (given all the shade) Parking: Parking lot and street parking. Plenty. Safety: in a good area of Newark. Didn't see many shady looking people at all. I think being close the community center helps. Final Comment: We love this park. It has character, has some structures that you won't find at other playgrounds, and has some charm.

    Six Toddler swings; nicely spaced.

Which makes sense when you're in a concrete urban jungle day in and day out - we just weren't meant to live this way. I literally searched Yelp for a park in the area on my way home, and Lakeshore came up. Tucked away in a residential area, Lakeshore is a small-ish, serene, well-kept park with, as the name implies, a lake being the central point. I strolled on the path for a bit. I'm not sure how long the path is, but it seems like a good spot to get a decent walk in, and there were a few walkers and joggers. After stretching my legs for a bit, I grabbed some bench and watched the birds - geese (these guys are huge!), seagulls, ducks, and crows - hanging out and eyeballing me to determine if I had food. They were so cute. There is nothing that gets me feeling better fast than being around animals. The human animals that passed by were nice as well, with smiles and hellos, how refreshing. I spent some time just sitting and resetting. It was good. I need to do this more. Nice park, enjoyed a much-needed reprieve here, and would return.

There's also a basketball court and a community center, which makes the park useful for different kinds of events. The playground area is decent, especially for kids. I noticed the padding looks like it was recently redone, which is nice. The play area has a little wall climber, slide, pole, and stairs. I do think the wood around the slide area could use some updating because it looks kind of old, and the slides seem extremely high, which I think should be changed or made safer. The bathrooms are currently being redone, so that's good to see. Overall, it's a decent park with good space and activities for families.

When we came across a video of this location on instagram we knew we had to plan a day to come. The weather says 80, but with the breeze and the slight shade from the trees it felt more like low 70s. We were lucky to get the only bench in front of the main play structure over looking the smaller ones. Others sat in lawn chairs and on blankets under the trees. There is no public restroom on site. There is a Ranch 99 about a block away, so if the lil one had to potty that is where we planned to venture. There is one food truck selling Mexican food - cash only - otherwise bring your own snacks. We were fortunate to snag parking directly in front of the park as space is limited. Around the park, there is a single block creating half a "circle" of parking availability. There is more parking around but it requires crossing the street. The residential street directly across from the park is no parking 9a-4p. There is a path for littles to ride their bikes, scooters or skate around safely, remaining visible. Our daughter kept hers in the car while she played between the multiple structures with different "friends." There is also a fitness area on site as well as a smaller tot area in a separate section of the park and a half basketball court. There was a birthday party being held on the premise. This is definitely a park we would return to if she requested. The lack of restroom does have me a bit torn, but knowing this allows us to plan a bit smarter. I would bring a friend along to accompany her as they could play on different structures while both remain visible. Our tall 6 year old played in both areas of the park - big and little kid areas - and enjoyed them both. They is quite a bit of exploring and lots to do for a free adventure day at the park.
