NDB is always my go-to breakfast spot when I'm in the area. As a New Jersey native, good bagels are hard to come by in this area but I think this place stands out. Things have changed slightly since the last time I visited (mainly, the prices have significantly inflated compared to other bagel spots). I ordered a bagel with lox and scallion cream cheese as well as a gatorade... the total came out to $19.32 which I think is very excessive. Maybe other options are less expensive here, but definitely keep that in mind if you're on a budget. The food itself was very tasty and well-balanced. The staff were friendly and worked quickly, so I still feel like NDB is a good option for something tasty on the go in the mornings! read more

Had to renew my parking twice waiting for a bacon egg and cheese bagel during spring break with no one in the store. $9 for the sandwich, nothing else, and it's ok at best. Floppy bacon and the bagel is cold when she handed it to me. They didn't cut it all the way through so it pulls apart when you try to grab half of it. People say to support local business but if I'm paying $10 for a breakfast sandwich and 20 minutes of parking, it needs to be hot, it needs to be cut all the way thorough and the bacon needs to be crisp. All of that is basically free for them to do with no extra help or time needed. Probably my last time coming here. Double ouch. read more

The worst food I've ever had. Stale bagel at 9am. Asked for Turkey bacon she said yes. Gave me regular bacon, asked for ice tea, she said they have it. Looked at the machine to be sure. They called me to let me know they were out of poppyseed bagels. I appreciated that they reached out to me to let me know before I came to pick up. I thought the sandwich was delicious! I used to love this place, so when I was back in town I tried to treat myself to a bagel. Unfortunately due to their horrible customer service I don't think I will ever be back. When their card reader rejected my card I offered to pay online through their website so the payment would go through. The person at the register just stared at me so I sat down and placed my order - their website directed me to Grub Hub. Then once the order was placed I went back to the counter to let them know that Grub Hub said they only offered delivery and not pickup, but that the order was for me and I was available to pick it up when ready. Then the owner came over and told me that I should not have used Grub Hub because now the store would have to pay a fee to Grub Hub. I was getting annoyed at this point because I tried repeatedly to pay without using Grub Hub, but I just apologized and said I keep that in mind for next time. Then I sat down to wait for my order. I was passing time on my phone and realized half an hour had gone by. When I went to check on my order, it was sitting on the counter with a receipt taped to it that said it had been finished 15 minutes prior. They just let me sit there while my food got cold. The egg and cheese sandwich was just ok but was not worth the 45 minutes that I spent in the store. Now its been a week and I just saw on my credit card statement that I was charged $22 for one bagel sandwich! I looked at my Grub Hub account and they had added $10 of additional delivery and driver fees even though I picked the order up in person! Now I have to go through Grub Hub customer service to try to get the fraudulent charges removed. Such a hassle for what was supposed to just be a little treat. Not only was it way overpriced (over $10 for these 2 things), but it took an excessive amount of time despite the place basically being empty. When it finally came, my sandwich was incredibly disappointing. There was barely a single egg on it, and the avocado was in one giant mass. Haven't had a good bagel since I left jersey (don't even ask about pizza!) and this place made me happy! Real bagels finally!! I have a bacon egg and cheese on everything and it was perfect. One of those few times where I disagree with my fellow yelpers. Ordered the whole wheat everything bagel, toasted with jalapeño cream cheese with cucumbers & tomatoes and a side of hash browns. Subpar to say the least. Bagel wasn't toasted and my cream cheese was bland! No spice and jalapeños were barely present. The hash browns can beat it. Greasy and way too oily, just like the ones served at McD's. We also had the egg/cheese/tomato melt on an everything bagel. Bagel wasn't toasted making for sad cheese who struggled to even melt. There are way better bagel options on Main Street. NDB may appeal to the self conscious college girl crowd, but for people who care about their food, time, and money, this place offers very little. The service, as many other reviewers have pointed out, is slow and imprecise. It's not uncommon for simple breakfast sandwiches to take fifteen minutes or more to prepare (Hot Bagels is consistently faster). Orders go missing and frustration can ensue. Today, after putting another 18 minutes on my meter, I still came close to running out of time as I waited on two bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. The food itself lets me down as well. In the past, I've often found the bacon too oily and salty, almost to the point of being inedible. Today, my bagel was so stale that I could hardly bite through it. Perhaps, indeed, I am entitled and spoiled, expecting fast and professional service at the establishments I visit. Shame on me for my expectations. And shame on NDB for everything else. read more

There was NOTHING BETTER than waking up at noon on a Sunday after the most intense weekend ever and dragging yourself off to a little bit of hangover heaven, a.k.a. Newark Deli & Bagels. The food here is on par with any well-respected, authentic deli you'll find in NYC. We're talking perfectly made bagels, crispy and smooth on the outside, soft and chewy on the outside... Some of the best schmear around... Amazing salads and sandwiches.... You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and almost every item is under 5 or 6 bucks!! Yes, it's popular, and yes, the line is sometimes almost out the door, but they'll almost always get you in & out in under 5 or 10 minutes. I've been out of college & the DE area for a while now, and I *still* get fierce cravings for their salt bagels with egg and cheese. Nothing else has filled their place in my heart. GO HERE... Having just started working in the Newark area, a good, cheap , and fast lunch is my current Holy Grail. I also have a brand new criteria, on which to base my selection and thats free wi-fi. A month ago, I had seen the term Wi-Fi and didnt know or care what it meant. I recently purchased an Ipod touch and it has become my new obsession. Since its not the Iphone, Im reliant on Wi-Fi to get online. I noticed Newark Bagel and Deli, on Main St on one of my Dunkin coffee runs. I was in the mood for a Reuben so I decided to give it a try. I didnt even notice that anything said "Free Wi-Fi" but like a mental patient, Ive been checking everytime I walk into a new place. There were the sweet sweet wi-fi bars looking up at me from my Itouch saying, "surf away, loser!" I guess its not surprising that many places around here offer Wi-Fi. Its smack dab in the middle of the University of Deleware. Many places I go to there , I often find a student or proffesor on their laptop. NBD most likely gets crowded, but it was spring break so I walked right up to the counter and ordered. Like I said, I was in the mood for a Reuben, and they had it on the menu, which was quite extensive for a Bagel place. I think it even has Manhattan beat. Heres where the stars start to fall. When I ordered the Reuben, ,the kid at the counter looked at me funny. "He has to have heard of this!" , I thought Turns out I was supposed to signify if I wanted a Corned Beef Reuben or a Pastrami Reuben. I didnt realize there were such options when it comes to Reubens. Then he asked if I wanted sauerkraut on it! Isnt that what a Reuben is???!!! Maybe they are used to dumb college kids who have to custom order every sammy. Oh well, I sat to wait for my order, not minding the wait because I had my linked up Itouch. Just a quick note for the Thread Dwellers. This was the day on Yelp when Lemon Parties were being discussed. God forbid anyone looked over my shoulder that day and saw that horrifying picture. Thanks Steve! I ordered my Reuben to-go , in case I had to run. Big mistake. They handed me my box and I looked in before I left. Once again, its clear they dont understand the Reuben (or sandwiches in general) They slapped down the 2 sides of the Reuben , open faced (swiss and 100 island pointed up.) then they threw a ton of fries on top, so that I couldnt even see the sandwich. Picking them off didnt work as they were fused to the cheese and dressing. I realized I would have to eat this here because it was an absolute mess. I had to eat through most of the fries (really thin and bland) just to close the sandwich up. Oh yeah, they put the sauerkraut on the side...cold. When I finally got it looking somewhat like a Reuben, it was pretty darn good. But the trouble I had with it almost wasnt worth it. I was definitely late getting back to work. The Reuben and fries, without a drink, came to around $7. A little steep for me, but I will be back for the occasional treat or when I need to use the Wi-Fi. Im hoping it was an isolated incident, because a good deli for lunch is a great option. Im still looking for my Holy Grail in Newark. A place with great , fast ,food, free Wi-Fi and people who know what they are doing. A place thats not too crowded so I can make ny 1/2 hour luch break work. Am I a fool to expect such things? Ordered 3 bagels and 3 iced coffees over the phone. When I got there staff handed me a bag with 3 cups and pointed to the corner "coffee is over there" and then ran in the back. No labels on anything and no one in sight to ask for help, had to wait for someone to come back out. I don't work here! Should have asked for half off since I had to make half the order myself. No exaggeration, I have been to this place upwards of 400 times. Working right next door almost my entire 5 years of college (and constantly being tempted by the smell of bacon) certainly didn't help. There is no breakfast sandwich in the world better than sausage, egg whites, and pepper jack cheese on one of their whole wheat everything bagels. The chicken salad is also awesome. I'd suggest getting the regular chicken salad sandwich, the club sandwich is overpowered with thousand island dressing and way too much bacon. I love this place so much that it often required me to hold back my hatred for greek life - mainly loud, awful sorority girls ordering scooped out bagels and douchebags in flourescent tshirts talking about the previous night's frat mixer - in order to satisfy my hungover breakfast sandwich cravings on the weekend. If you try and go here anytime between 9-11am, call your order in and be prepared to wait - as the line is almost always out the door. If you go in at an off peak time, you can get your order in less than 5 minutes. Out of all the places in Newark that I miss since moving, this is definitely at the very top of my list. I've yet to find a bagel shop in Philadelphia that comes remotely close. read more

When you're running a promotion on something, you can't not accept credit cards when the actual price is in the accepted range. Your store smells like a$$ and I've told all my friends on Jefferson to get their cigs from the liquor store on Washington. I expect you to be evicted within the month. As for NDB, this place is a staple of Main Street. My real favorite item would be the chicken salad sandwich on an everything bagel, but the low-fat chicken salad sandwich isn't bad either.
