A great place for lunch in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We had soup du jour for a starter--cream of mushroom and pork lentil. Neither were very good. Mushroom completely over-shadowed by spice and flavoring. Lentil was too clumpy to be considered soup. The lunch was redeemed by the Ruben sandwich and perfectly crisp French fries. The pepper and bread and butter pickles were nice additions. We finished our lunch by sharing a caramel sundae with pistachio nuts. Service was very good. read more

Delightful small bistro with excellent service. If the location and atmosphere were a little more charming, and the food just a little bit better, this would rate five stars for the area. Our meal was during brunch service on a weekend, so some of the items I was hoping to order based on prior reviews and photos weren't available during that meal service. However, we were very happy with what we did order: -- Roasted Beets -- Spinach Wrap -- Grilled Five Cheese The star of the show were the beets and I'd happily order them again. Beautifully composed and plated dish. The spinach wrap (vegetarian) was nice, but both the wrap and green salad (solely greens) were slightly overdressed for my taste. The Grilled Five Cheese was enjoyable, especially because of the tomato jam that accompanied the dish. I can't say enough about the attentiveness of the server, their knowledge of the menu, and overall good grace and humor. With the majority of the past year getting food to-go, it reminded me of the joy of dining out. The seating is cozy inside with some stools at the kitchen bar and about five other tables indoors. There were some delightful little touches like a row of Matchbox cars over the door. Along the side of the restaurant there are a few outside tables that are only partially covered by the eave of the building, so diners are exposed to both sun and rain unless conditions are just right. There is a also a larger dining tent behind the restaurant, but that was not in use during our visit. The location of the bistro isn't the best since it is close to the corner of a major intersection. It takes away from the ambiance when you are staring at the Walgreens across the street. And because the seating is so tight, when you are dining indoors, our table was pushed against a window and the table outside is also against the window so it feels a little claustrophobic. Overall, I just wished the restaurant was in a different location. But, the food and service were so good, that I'd happily return. read more

We came here for brunch and it was delicious! All of it was fresh and tasty including the jam we got with our toast. The sausage was AMAZING! Really good flavor as were the potatoes! Plus the service was good, our waitress was a delight and the prices were reasonable. My only critique would be they are using fake cheese on things including when asked for it on eggs and then I saw they used it for the grilled cheese on someone else's plate. Maybe that isn't a deal breaker for some, but it is not my favorite. I still think for the vibe, service, and food this place deserves 5 stars! read more

TL;DR: Cute and bougie! Went here on Saturday for a late brunch (2pm) with a friend. Got to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine while it was still here. We were able to sit right away and got water basically upon sitting down, which was nice! The staff were all very nice and incredibly attentive. We never wanted for anything - our water and coffee was always full! I got the chicken and waffles, my friend got some cocktails, as well as the daily hash. I loved the chicken and waffles - the waffle was fluffy and sweet whereas the chicken was perfectly crispy, slightly spicy and paired perfectly with the waffle. My friends hash was a risk that had a high pay off! You never know if the hash is going to be canned or fresh and to our delight, it was fresh! My sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate to the Newbergundian because she thought I would like it. And, she was right!! My wife and I stopped for happy hour. When we walked in it was warm and the smells were amazing (we had been hiking). We bellied up to the bar and that is where our fun began. Scott and Scott answered all of our questions and we had a blast just learning from them. Tracy was so friendly and willing to bring us another drink! We asked about other local restaurants and the Scotts gave us great inside scoop. One of the best moments was when I did something I have never done before; I asked about ordering off the menu. The Scotts chatted, asked if we like mushrooms, and voila, out came an amazing dish! The service was spot on, the food was delicious, and lasting memories. Came here after the draconian lockdown ended in Yamhill County. My daughter went to GF and had said this was really good place and she was right! The potato croquettes were like pillowy clouds of goodness with a fondue dip and some mustard and pickles. Excellent! My wife had the seafood bisque. Wasn't what she was expecting- but good nonetheless. I personally thought it was great. I decided to try the burger as my wife ordered the fish and chips before I could. We have an agreement to order different things. The burger was really good. I prefer a little more seasoning in my burgers, but no complaints. Great burger. The other problem was that the fries were a real show stopper, especially with the leftover fondue sauce. Some of the best I've had in this region. The fish and chips were as good as any regionally. The tarter sauce had kind a a grainy mustard mixed in which was awesome. The slaw had caraway seeds in it which was creative and tasty. The fish was battered lighty and fried perfectly. Crispy and flaky but not dry. Our server was happy, helpful and efficient. She also seemed to know the regular customers which I think is huge in a small town bistro. The service was so very sweet and attentive. The presentation of the food was stunning and tasted delicious. Loved the intimate feel of the restaurant and seeing the hustle in the kitchen. You can tell there is passion here! Look at how beautiful that beet salad is!!! The whipped cheese on the bottom and crunchy nuts sprinkled on top made it not fun to eat but appealing to the eye. The fried chicken sandwich was a special but rivaled one of our favorite spots at home. Might need to make this one a regular! The soup was full of flavor and the corn added pops of summer freshness. This little place is a real Newberg gem. Very well-lit and pleasant. Pretty much everything I've ever had here has been outstanding. It can feel a bit crowded, but my experience has been that as soon as the food arrives, the rest of the world falls away. We end up here a couple of times a month. I'm a fan of their Croque Monsieur salad. Really tasty and filling. It's $18 and almost a meal in itself. Nice selection of appetizers. I really like the Fish and Chips. My wife has been ordering their Steak Frits. Really tender meat. They've had Old Rasputin Imperial Stout on Nitro since day one. One of my favorites. Wine and cocktail list is quite serviceable. Only a few cautions. The fries are often a tad over salted. Ask for no salt and you'll be fine. Salt it at the table if you like. Salads at most every restaurant these days are a bit too wet for my taste. We ask for dressing on the side. And they recently changed their house made blue cheese dressing. Now it has this barnyard funk to it that neither my wife or I can get past. We love blue cheese dressing for salads and even dipping French fries in. But not this version. I recommend you go for a nice casual meal. It's a welcome spot in the Newberg food scene. read more

Showed up on a Saturday morning and it was empty. Uh oh thought that was not a good sign. Ordered their breakfast plate just bacon eggs toast and potatoes. OMG one of the best plain omd breakfasts ever. Delicious homemade bacon, incredible thick sliced bread, potaties most likely air fried crispy and NOT greasy. It was amazing. I don't live in. Newburgh was just passing through, but I definitely would go back. There might even be worth a trip from Portland to go there for breakfast. Service was great too and the place is very cute inside. I met someone a couple of nights ago that worked here and swore the best burger around could be found at this little gem. And he wasn't kidding! I came in around 3 and little did I know it was happy hour, they have drink specials and a whole happy hour menu. This is a little spot with just a few tables and some bar seating. I really like it because you have a view of everything. You can watch the kitchen cook the food and prep, and watch the bartender make drinks. There are no TVs or anything but the playlist was on point. The menu looks fantastic, but I had to go for the burger! It's a hand formed patty and she is thicc boy!! I got it cooked medium and added bacon and cheese for a little extra, and it came with a mound of fries on the side. One thing I want to point out because it was a total game changer is their homemade pickles. They really added so much to the burger and cut through the salty bacon perfectly. The burger itself was amazing, and might be the best burger I've ever had! It was so juicy and the beef was fresh and full of flavor! With the addition of lettuce, tomato, onion, and their homemade pickles it was perfection. The beer prices are pretty standard and the star are so friendly and engaging! Great restaurant, and a lot of outdoor seating including a tent set up in the parking lot to help during Covid. Everyone in my party enjoyed the meal despite a few hiccups and I would definitely go back again. Main courses of Scallops, Duck, and Fish & Chips in particular were excellent despite being served green roasted potatoes with my duck that I left pretty much untouched. They went above and beyond normal customer service! We showed up with 7 people and they made a spot for us on the back patio. It was chilly but really quiet and we could have a good time talking and laughing. The staff kept up on our drinks and the service was fast. My first review in the age of Covid!!! It has been so long since I've been anywhere since this damn pandemic. I decided to brave the storm, wear a mask, and go out for some dinner outside. I knew I wanted something local, and I knew it had to have outdoor seating. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. They offered a lot of local ingredients and house made items. We were seated right away and the waitress was kind enough to repeat the specials to me. Is it me or does everyone sound muffled with masks on? You know what I'm talking about. We ordered the half shell oysters which were a special and the charcuterie board for starters. Then seafood bouillabaisse, and the poulet au citron for our main course. I can't complain when my oysters are fresh and my seafood stew has everything I want in it and more. It had fish, clams, calamari, shrimp, and octopus. The broth was savory and spicy. Sooo good! My husband says his chicken was ok, nothing spectacular, but good. Anyways, I appreciate the location of this restaurant and I plan on going back to try some of their other menu items. read more

I'm surprised I've never reviewed this place yet. We've been going here probably since they opened and have yet to be disappointed. I took my value conscious (cheap) dad to this place today and he couldn't stop raving about the food and value. Today we had the Manila clams app, saganaki, and shared the croque monsieur salad. We left stuffed. The clams are my favorite dish on this menu-hands down. The broth is incredible and it is a good size serving. With the two pieces of bread, this makes a perfect light meal. I enjoyed the saganaki which I hadn't found in several years. It was a tiny bit salty for me but paired with the sliced bread it was perfect! Crispy brown edges and a squeeze of lemon on top-excellent! The salad was a winner as always. Spinach with a generous amount of Gruyère and the most delicious ham. The ham comes out almost like a shredded brisket and is so tender and smoky. Not some gross cubed ham. In the past I have enjoyed their bouillabaisse which is more like a cioppino in my opinion. It's incredible! I love the coq au vin on a cold winter's day. One time we ordered three appetizers for dinner and enjoyed it very much. I believe it was the charcuterie, clams and beet salad. We even took home leftovers! Service is always solid: friendly, fast and efficient! Lots of comfortable outdoor seating. We look forward to many more years of eating at The Gundian. read more

Had a nice lunch they were out of Turkey the sliced chicken breast was substituted my husband enjoyed. I had the fish and chips. Amazingly fresh and the coleslaw superb. Last night in the area decided to go back for dinner. Tried the roasted beet salad very good. My husband ordered the steamed clams and I ordered risotto. Sadly both were over spiced with chili of some sort. The delicate fresh flavors were overshadowed by heat. The asparagus and mushrooms flavors were lost. The distinct clam flavor was also overshadowed. We plan to come back next time in the area. Just will not order the risotto or clams again. Me and my husband are form Arizona and we came on vacation to Portland with our in-laws who are from New Jersey. Oh my GOD this place was amazing!!!!! I got the fish and chips, my husband got the steak, my mother in law got the coq a vin and my father in law got the sea food special. We didn't even speak once we got our food because the food was so good!!!!!!!!! Alsoo HUGE!!!!!!! Shout out to Krystal!!!! She was our bartender / waitress who gave the best recommendations. This had so many recommendations, but we were not impressed. Inside was freezing and kind of blah, so we ate outside which had a lot of road noise. We figured the food was going to make up for it, but were wrong. The Bouillabaisse was OK, but the broth lacked the briny seafood taste-seafood in it OK. 2 of the group had the Shrimp Louie and both said "Not Great". Our 4th at the table had the Duck which he loved. But 1 out of 4 enjoying their dinner is not a good sign for a restaurant. Service was good, but not warm and fuzzy. read more
