Hosting over 1,400 unique bourbon's and rye whiskeys, the shelves at Newberry Brothers are stocked 3 bottles deep. Only someone as knowledgeable as Peter Newberry (owner and bartender extraordinaire) would know each bottles location.... and their grain composition ratios! Best bourbon bar in NKY!!! The customer service is always A+, the drink selection is LARGE, and the atmosphere offers a variety of choices depending on what your looking for. Let me explain; the front of the shop is calm, warm, and like your hometown coffee shop...the back room of the shop is usually more upbeat, vibrant, and like what you would get at a bar....lastly, the outside courtyard is pretty much the best of both worlds! When I'm looking for a good scotch or bourbon to try I can depend on Newberry Brothers to have something familiar and something off the beaten path. My go to drink here as of late has been the Kentucky Mule and my wife highly enjoys the amoretto sour. I cannot rave about this place enough. The owners are absolutely amazing people that truly care about their business and their customers. My sister called to schedule a bourbon tasting for my bachelorette night out. We allowed my fiancé to join us for this part of the night and the owners treated us like family. You do not need to call to schedule a tasting... you can just pop in. They have a nice patio, a back bar, and an open café atmosphere in the front. They make their own cinnamon rolls that smell divine (and I can't wait to try). They have the most bourbon I've ever seen and they even sell bottles. Their charcuterie plates are impressive and everything is priced right. I can't wait to go back for another positive experience. read more

I want to say this place is awful so you will stay away and it could be my little secret. But I can't. I could tell you how awesome the bourbon selection is but you already know if you've read the other posts. I could tell you about the atmosphere and the ambiance and how on a nice night there is nothing like it in the tri-state. But someone else surely has already mentioned that too. I could talk about Peter - the owner and how his stories must be made up or he has lived 9 lives bc there is no way one person could have so many border line unbelievable stories. Again, someone else has already mentioned him in other reviews. I could talk about Peter's wife who I've never formally met, but she table to table making sure everyone is having a good time and every dog has a treat - but I saw that mentioned too. I could talk about the craziness behind his Sunday morning bakery and how people line up down the street (LITERALLY) in hopes to get a croissant. Instead I'll talk about how you should go and check it out to support the bar and the wonderful owners. The ham and cheese croissant was amazing! The croissant itself was perfectly flaky and buttery; and whoever thought to stuff it it--genius! We really wanted to try the goetta cheese stuffed croissant, but the people in front of us in line got the last one. This was at 12 noon on a Sunday, so a word to the wise, get there early to get the good stuff! Now that I know this, I will definitely be back to get the goetta cheese croissant soon. We also had a cinnamon roll which was pretty darn big and covered in icing, and paired perfectly with my latte! Sitting outside was a perfect touch to this brunch, we enjoyed the patio, the sun and the neighborhood. To those who say that 6$ is too much for the croissants, I have to disagree, this thing is like a whole meal, I mean, it is a sandwich. Okay here's the deal, this place is an awesome little coffee shop that will soon also be a wine bar and bistro! Yay!! Another place for happy hour after work. I spoke with one of the owners this morning and learned that they roast their beans every two days, and they whole sale them as well. They also bake their pastries every morning, super fresh and YUMMY. You have to try the Chocolate Croissant. Oh and the Morning Glory Muffin... sooo good! I finally had a chance to stop in today after multiple times attempts to stop in during off-hours. I'll start with the positive: the inside is adorable, with a few low tables and chairs plus some stools against the long ledge wall. It smells heavenly inside, all the pastries looked delicious and fresh, and the owner was very informative about their offerings. I chose an orange and cranberry muffin and loved every bite. Mmm. Now, the not-so-positive: First off, the hours. Weds-Fri 7a-1p and Sat/Sun 8a-2p. Very limited compared to other independent coffee shops in the area. Also, as a friend had warned me... they are pricey. A drink and pastry will run you about $6. I know they plan to expand to a wine bar and bistro but haven't seen any definite date or timeline. Assuming with that would come extended hours. I'm hoping that they're able to grow and survive, and would love to write an updated review down the line with a higher rating. read more

My boyfriend is a lover of whisky/bourbon so we came here for the vast collection they have. They have a lot of really good, expensive bottles of hard to find whisky. I give this a 5/5 due to their new prohibition bar. The selection is unbelievable! I took my husband to get a bourbon flight. He got the Cin City and loved it. Although I am not a bourbon fan, I still enjoyed a Moscow mule that was very refreshing. We also ordered the apple pie a la mode--very delectable. The servers were very nice and checked on us several times. One man even offered to give our dog some treats and water which was so nice! This place is pretty damn swell. Another stop on an evening walkabout that proved to have more whiskey than thought imaginable. Beers a plenty as well, I didn't really drink but the outdoor seating was really nice; a wood burning thingamajig provided a nice warmth on an otherwise chilly night. So my review comes from the perspective of a novice whiskey fan. I have had a ton of different whiskeys, bourbons, ryes, etc. One of my best friends is a collector so I get to try some amazing selections. However, I don't know much about it. I am a craft beer fan and rarely drink liquor. So please take that into consideration when reading this review. I arrived around 6:15 PM on a Thursday night. I entered through the main entrance which is the coffee shop side of the business. For those of you that don't know, this venue is a prohibition style bourbon bar. So the bar is hidden in the back. I easily found the bar because that is where all the noise was coming from. The space is small; very small. I would say 10-15 people can fit max before it starts feeling crowded. I would estimate about 20 people were there on this night. The ambience isn't bad but I didn't get the "speak easy" feeling I was hoping for. The whiskey selection is amazing! You name it, they got it. I am sure I can't afford 90% of what they have there. Pete, the owner, was running the bar and is a genuinely nice guy that knows his stuff. They have a menu that lists out the most common/popular selections, a few flights and daily specials. They also offer some wine and beer. I had one pour of a rye whiskey and it was amazing! But it was also $20. You definitely will pay for the quality at a place like this. End result, I was intimidated by the selection and would never be able to navigate the menu without an expert guide. If you know and love whiskey and don't mind paying for a hard to get spirit; then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a place to grab a cocktail, then try somewhere else. read more

This place had intrigued me for awhile. A coffee spot doubles as a swanky bourbon bar and primarily operates at night on weekends? Sign me up. Of course, I ended up visiting during one of the few times they're open in the mornings (3rd Sunday) and not for an evening of beans and bourbon; however, I'm incredibly happy with my decision and what I discovered at Newberry Bros. ATMOSPHERE: Loved the initial impression. Immediately hit with a delicious coffee aroma and the sounds of milk steaming in the background. Great coffee house vibe. Super friendly staff! Checked out the speakeasy in back and will for sure be coming back to enjoy that space with a glass of bourbon in my hand. The outdoor patio also looked like a great space to hang out with a firepit and lights strung up - perfect summer night spot. DRINKS: Coffee was great. The staff was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions for my coffee preferences. Coffee tasted fresh and was nice and hot. I'm itching to get back there and try some of the bourbon, the selection is no joke and is a bourbon lovers' paradise. FOOD: The main event. The reason we came. The magic that is the Third Sunday Croissants. OMG. Seriously. Cannot. Hype. Up. Enough. I've had some amazing croissants in my day, but these are on a whole other level. First of all they're larger than your average croissant so no need to worry about being unsatisfied. Second, the fillings are all incredible. I went with a group and got to sample 3 different flavors - each were equally immaculate bakery creations from the heavens. Seriously. A nice flaky crust on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside. Amazing flavor and perfect balance of textures. I could ramble on about these for days, but I'll just say this: These are hands down the best croissants I've ever had. Made our first visit last week, and we have been back 4 more times. I eat vegan - so most of the pasteries are off limits but the aroma is awesome. The coffee is roasted on sight. The Mexican is so smooth; incredible. The place is immaculate with fantastic indoor and outdoor seating. But the real treat is the bourbon bar adjacent to the coffee. Some 500 bourbons is interesting. But we sat for a tasting flight with the owner, Peter. He gave the most fascinating lecture on bourbons; better than the Bourbon Trail. At the same time he introduced and connected everyone in the bar - while running back and forth to get the apple tarts out of the oven for the morning. This is a find!!! Not vegan friendly unfortunately! Needs some no dairy/egg white options soon! read more

Do note that on Friday and weekend evenings it teems up as a bar and early evening has people catching up before their dinner and night out. This new shop just opened in Historic East Row in Newport. What a great addition to the neighborhood. The coffee is off the hook...I had a latte, complete with an elegant design drawn in the foam, and the quality of the coffee was so great, I didn't even want to sweeten it. Now that says something! The baked goods are home made with the finest ingredients. The croissant are flaky and golden...we had Ham and Swiss straight out of the oven. Heaven. We also splurged on an orange cranberry scone and a cinnamon bun...so good! Next Sunday...it's a chocolate croissant for me. This is going to be our go to Sunday have a lazy cup of coffee place. This is a neighborhood gem run by it's owners and a lovely staff. The Newberry's clearly love their community, the business and their neighbors. They are experts at pastries, coffee, wine and bourbon - what a skill set! Croissants are the best I have had outside of Paris, largest bourbon selection I have ever seen, and great place for outside dog-friendly imbibing. Additionally, the family that owns this place is hugely community focused, they do tons of fund raisers and inspire us all to have a good work/life balance by limiting their hours to those that make for a sustainable and happy life for them and their staff. read more

Cute little coffee shop! The hours are a little weird- basically, you might be out of luck if you are looking for a caffeine pick up sometime mid to late afternoon. According to the website, they are only open Thursday through Sunday right now. I always appreciate a local/fair-trade coffee shop, and am glad to see Newberry boasts this. I didn't get to try it on my first visit, though they kindly made me a chai latte (it was during bistro hours when people were coming in for wine and drinks). I did check out the drink menu while waiting, and the beer and wine prices were awesome! Definitely checking this out for happy hour when I am back on the drinking wagon :) and will have to come back for some coffee soon. read more

I've seen this little place on the corner when I drive by, and finally had a chance to stop in last Saturday for a cup of coffee. The coffee was great and the atmosphere was charming. People were sitting around reading the paper having their coffee and muffins. As I got to talking with the owners Peter and Kim, I found out that they started doing wine, and bourbon on weekend nights (big plus). That night we were out and ended up stopping in for a glass of wine. It was busy and people were sitting out at the patio tables! What a great neighborhood place. It's right across the street from Pompilios. I will be going back for the Sunday $4 glass of wine of any open bottle (they are only open Thur-Sun, so they need to get rid of all the open wine).
