Newcastle is a relaxed, casual neighbourhood pub. The service is friendly and the pub is spacious. They have a decent patio in front of the pub in the summers. The menu has a lot of interesting items, and there are some good happy hour specials. On this visit, I ordered the Korean Krunch chicken sandwich. It was flavourful- the sauce, kimchi, marinated cucumbers and bacon jam complimented one another. read more

Great food (soup du jour + salad), steak sandwich and great, friendly service. The interior is cold/sterile suburban grey/taupe hell, with a few TVs and a couple of pics. Maybe they'll make it look like a pub in the future? I do recommend though! read more

Was here recently, maybe a few weeks ago. Stopped for a beer and wings. Its a nice big sports bar, very spacious. Pool and lots of screens. Seemed to be oilers fans out, go figure. Place was actually packed, Saturday. Decent service and rates were as expected. I don't believe I seen patio seating. Would be a great casual spot to stop. Used to be an awesome place for live music and dancing along with great food. Now that they've moved to a shiny new building it's more food than music and dancing. Tiny little dancing area, which would be much improved if they just took one set of tables out from across the front. But like I said, it's more of a restaurant now so I guess they need the tables. I decided to go out of my way to visit Newcastle on a Sunday afternoon because it's where a lot of music lovers tend to hang out and enjoy the jam. The place had all of the atmosphere of a dive bar (which I expected). There's lots of seating, a bar, VLTs, and a dance floor. People were having a great time. The menu is quite extensive for a pub, featuring an all-day breakfast and many burgers, sandwiches, finger foods that I would expect at such an establishment. I had a veggie scramble and it was decent: reasonable price, good portion, crispy potatoes, and no problem with my request to hold the dairy in the eggs and on the toast. I would definitely come here again, especially for the live music. read more

It's a pub, with pub food, not fine dining, so it's fine for what it is. I came here to see my friend's band play (Groovy Tuesdays, for the win!) and ordered a Greek salad and a beer or 2. The salad was adequate, the prices were OK, and the bartenders weren't too surly or exceptionally friendly. I'll probably be back, simply because their band will be playing here more. read more

4 stars? Really? Not a chance. Newcastle has been skeezy since inception and it still is, just more expensive. Summary: cheap dodgy rip-off, avoid. The first time I came here, the server had burn marks on her lips. Now there's less crack but the service was cold and ultimately fraudulent. Rude server, I asked if there was a beer menu (cuz there's lots of taps), and she said, "no". That was it. Thanks for the service. Wanted to try the butter chicken poutine. It's $18. You kidding? Most menu items are $16+. This is a cheap warehouse-style bar in a strip mall on 50th street by the train tracks, not downtown or Whyte. Stupid expensive. My buddy and I got the $14 Friday steak sandwich deal. Steak was passible, stringy, not convinced it was 7oz as advertised. Fries were cold. Salad had bagged shredded cheese on it. Poor quality food. Bill shows up, $17 for the steak sandwich. The deal runs to 7pm, bills dropped off at the table at 7:20pm, shows them as being rung in at 7:18pm. Service was slow, we showed up at 6pm, probably ordered at 6:15pm. Server plays dumb (that's being generous), spends 5 minutes talking to the bartender, comes back to the table saying she doesn't know what happened or what's wrong, but she'll eat the $2 ($3, actually) difference. Repeats said sob story three times. What a scam. Paid and left. Won't be back. This place is a dump. read more

I've come here before to watch live bands. It's always a fun time. The staff is nice and the selection of beers is great. I'm glad they relocated to this place. We always used to have pizza night here with friends, but we stopped because the quality went down. Now it's time to resume that tradition as they've stepped up their game. read more

As a long time patron of the Newcastle I'm a bit disappointed with the new location. It seems to me that they have made the band and the area for dancing sort of as a second thought. The emphasis now seems to be on the restaurant food side. The food was always good, but also exceptional was the band stage and the dance floor area. Now there's just a flat stage area and a somewhat narrow strip in front for dancing. Seeing as they have a huge area with tables that they open up in the evening, I don't know why they have to have the additional tables in front of the band area. If those tables were taken out then the dance floor area would be quite equivalent to what they had in the old place. The Halloween bash was always a hit. I was a winner/runner up three times for costume. Irish dancers for St Paddy's. I can't see them being able to do that in the paltry area they have allocated now. Bottom line, I miss the homeyness of the old location. Didn't see much of the old crowd at the new location. But, I understand that change is sometimes needed. Making some changes to the dance area would go a long ways to bringing back some of the feeling of the old venue. I know I'm not alone in thinking this. read more

I dropped by the Newcastle this Thursday to watch some friends play a dinner set, which is a new and very successful promotion here. The place was full, but the service was quick and friendly. I had not been seated for more than a couple of minutes before our server put a frosty Guinness in my hand. This bar looks very spartan when it is empty, but it fills well and often, as they play some of the best live music in the city. The Newcastle is a popular gig for musicians, for the friendly atmosphere, the large stage and dance floor, and the quality of the sound. The Newcastle also serves some of the best Bar Grub around. The menu has lots of standards, but there are a few food items that stand out. The house specialty is their Butter Chicken, which is like crack. You will come back for it, again and again. I do not understand the logic behind it, as I have eaten in many of the very best Indian restaurants in our fine city, but none of them compare to this pub in the middle of nowhere. Served with Jasmine rice, Papadams and Naan this is a filling, savoury, endorphin tweaking dish of absolute wonder. If you really want to slow your blood flow, they do a Butter Chicken Poutine that is so decadent one should have a priest on call to absolve you of your meal. First time here was for a great Yelp Elite event! For all those who'd never been to Newcastle before (like me), pro tip: if you're attending a wedding at any of the 3 large venues nearby - this is the place to come drink before/after/during! (Courtesy of another Elite ) Breakfast at night was a refreshing twist and really hit the spot! The entire meal consisted of solid breakfast staples: pancakes, bacon, sausages, eggs, which were well prepared and tasty! I'd perused their menu before arriving; their breakfasts are priced low, as one could expect for casual dining. I wasn't a fan of the eggs as they seemed to be from a carton, not actual eggs...but if I were to come back, I'd definitely be willing to give their eggs Benedict a go! We checked out the Sunday Soul Service jam on Sunday afternoon and had a great time! The live music was fantastic, the service was excellent, the drinks were cheap, and the food was delicious! Awesome place with breakfast and pool! If you ever want to watch a hockey game or anything you can come here as there are numerous big screen t.v all around the pub. They also have pool tables and numerous seating. The staff are friendly and service is quick so always good when you have a big group of friends. Washrooms have 3 stalls and clean so its a bonus. It's a big warehouse style bar that caters to the older working crowd. They have a pile of tv screens, a couple of pool tables, no less than 10 VLTs and a stage. The large modern bar counter is kind of neat. It's cold inside. Steak sandwich with salad was quite good. Their pizzas are good. Our servers were good. Mostly men inside though. The Newcastle pub is probably one of the best kitchens for pub food in Edmonton. The pizza is delicious as is pretty much everything on this menu. Try the butter chicken/rice. If your not going for the food, the NCP on a Friday or Saturday nights is great for live bands. Call to confirm because I'm Not sure if they have one every weekend. Sunday however is the best day for hitting the NCP if your into live free stage jams. This jam is probably one of the best in Edmonton. This place is fantastic. Location is good, lots of parking. I have been to New Castle twice, once for cocktails and appetizers in the bar and once for breakfast with my Sister and Dad (most recently) The breakfast was amazing! The pancakes were delicious, fluffy and light, and My family loves the eggs benny. The space is nice, bright and open and the staff is welcoming and friendly. I've come here a few times for a quick drink (or two) at lunchtime, but it's certainly not a first-choice type of joint. It's your basic pub with plenty of seating, a couple of pool tables, 10 VLT machines, a bunch of TV screens, and a full bar & menu. But it lacks in atmosphere, devoid of anything to keep you coming back for more. There are bare walls, outdated furniture, and an awkward bar, while the out-in-the-open VLTs make it look more like a mini casino than a place to grab something to eat (which I have not yet done).
