ONLY GET GAS! Had routine maintenance done at this service station and they didn't attach the oil cap properly, did not replace my windshield wipers and did not turn off the air pressure light. I subsequently had oil all over my garage floor. For my next maintenance service I went to a different place and discovered they had not changed the power steering fluid. Newgate had put a sticker indicating they had changed the fluid but it was filthy. Go elsewhere! read more

I arrived at Newgate Sunoco in tears, with a little baby in tow. I was not upset for long!! I had just completed a long flight with a newborn baby, and when I began the 1.5 hour drive home from Dulles Airport, my BMW started flashing warning lights that the engine was in trouble. I am so very lucky that I pulled over at their service station!! The fellows there attended to my problem immediately, while I sat in their air conditioned waiting room with the baby. They got my car on the road in no time at all, and I cannot thank them enough. (BMW Sterling, on the other hand, should be ashamed. I put in a distress call to them, and they simply told me to call a tow truck and deal with it.) Thanks to the guys at Newgate! If anyone has car trouble after leaving Dulles Airport, I recommend they pull into this service station. It's south on 28, at the exit for Lee Highway. I'm very grateful to the mechanics at Sunoco for saving our Saturday. Due to the many car-eating potholes, our mini cooper had a damaged tire and wouldn't be able to make it all the way back home. The staff at the Sunoco went out of their way to locate the correct tire (it's a tough size to find - as many don't stock them) and had us back on the road at a reasonable price within 1.5 hours (may have even been quicker). At a time when we could easily have been taken advantage of, they made a bad situation bearable. Thank you Sunoco, you exceeded our expectations and helped us continue enjoying our Saturday. I used to go to this gas station for several years where I could just drop off my car and come and pick it after the inspection was done.But since last year I have to wait for the inspection to be done. I've had trouble with mechanics around Centreville. I originally went to Virginia Tire and Auto back when it was a Goodyear franchise, and one time they charged me for a radiator flush and refill that I found out a month later, after someone hit my car and I brought it in somewhere else for emergency service, that Virginia Tire had charged me but left the old radiator fluid. Later when I again needed a quick repair on a broken power window, I happened to go to Centreville Tire and Auto as I was passing by on the way home from the supermarket. The folks there are nice, but over a few years I started to suspect that they were over-charging me for labor, especially last month when I took it in for air conditioning repair. They charged me $1800 for a variety of problems they found, but the AC broke down again right away and then they wanted $1405 to repair it! When I told the manager, Raul, that friends of mine had told me it should take only 3 hours and not the 8 he claimed, he did cut the price to $1187, but by then I'd decided to shop around. I first used Yelp to ask Brian, the Sunoco owner, if they do AC work, and he responded through Yelp very nicely within two hours of the start of business. By then I'd already called and talked to Jason, the manager, and he has a very positive attitude, and told me to bring in the car because many other places charge for work you don't need. So I brought my car to Kalen, their mechanic (I hope I'm spelling his name right), and found out that I didn't need 3 of the 4 parts Centerville Tire wanted to replace. One of the 4 parts isn't even part of the AC system! I let Kalen do the work and he had the car done before noon the next day, even though he had to order the part that morning, and the price was the promised $630--very different from Virginia Tire, which was always ending up charging me for more labor than estimated. I highly recommend Gary, Jason, and Kalen at the Newgate Sunoco, and my best friend, who was using Centreville Tire for his non-warranty work (like brakes) because I was using it, is switching to Newgate Sunoco too! We were even sitting in the lot last night checking out the gas price think of starting to shop there for gas too. Newgate Auto Center--Sunoco is definitely a winner! :-) read more

Was told here that our car needed over 500 of exhaust work for a leak and would be all day to get it done... Seemed very expensive for a small problem. We got the leak repaired at Cville tire for 196 in under 2hrs. We may still return to Sunoco for inspections because the inspector took the time to be helpful in explaining the issue, but the difference in repair cost was overwhelming read more

Truly amazing service!! If you are someone who does not trust mechanics like I am then let the crew at Newgate change your mind! I had my front suspension repaired at Pohanka Lexus a year ago, then my left front bearing started making noise. So I took it to Newgate and not only did they repair it quickly and explained everything thoroughly, the mechanic also pointed out that the dealership had put used parts on my car! I learned something new, if there is yellow or white hand printed numbers on the part it is used! I can't wait to go to the dealership and tear into them because my repairs there cost me $4000! The repairs at Newgate Sunoco only cost $228, and my car runs as smooth as it did when I first bought it. I highly recommend this shop to ALL! read more

Was leaving to go out of town and noticed my tire pressure indicator light was on. Stopped by the station and asked if they could check the tires. The mechanic not only checked the tires, he found there was a nail in one and repaired it. This was all done within 15-20 minutes! Can I give them NO stars? DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! Whether it was merely incompetence or they were trying to cheat me, I got a very raw deal. I took my car in to have the left side electric window repaired. Not only did they overcharge me (350% markup on the part!!!) but they broke my right side window, radio, stereo and clock as well. They called to offer me a "deal" on fixing the other window which they insisted was broken. It wasn't broken when I brought it in. I feel I was overcharged! I paid for $100. for diagnostics twice within 3 weeks??!! They replaced a sensor for over $500...the dealer told me it would be about $300. My car still isnt right and I have paid them over $1000.! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE FOR ANYTHING! OK, maybe gas or air. Rip off artists!! Warning to all women, do not take your vehicles here. I went in for a simple oil change because it was busy at my normal place (Centreville Tire and Auto). They came out and started barking off all the things wrong with my rear shoes and brakes on my Jeep. I informed them that I had literally just passed my State inspections. So, I took it back to Centreville Tire and Auto and they immediately jacked up my car to take a look. They removed both rear wheels and showed me the areas and what it would look like if I needed all that work done. They went over the whole list of things that the guys at Sunoco said needed attention. They even cleaned up my car since the guys at Sunoco did such a poor job with my oil change. If you're looking for an honest auto body shop, take it to Centreville Tire and Auto. I will never, even so much as, get gas at Sunoco ever again. read more

They are professional AND helpful AND honest! They tell you what you need and what it will cost. And if you don't need a repair/replacement, they'll tell you that, too. When my car started leaking some sort of fluid while I was driving, I called John Mass and he told me to pull over and turn it off and then sent a tow truck to get me. I'm so happy I followed his advice as it turned out to be transmission fluid and my car would have stopped working for good if I had continued to drive it. This review is a long time cometh. These guys (and gals) are one of the best in the business. I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser and rely on it big time to get me to my contracted jobs and back. This place has been more than accommodating when I have been in tight situations and needed something fixed. i must say, the service from the car shop side is outstanding. i only needed my flat tire fixed. but when i came inside and asked for help the guy behind the desk was very friendly. and the man who fixed my tire was very polite. he stopped everything he was doing to get me back on the road. and i was in and out in no time at all. so i must give them 3 stars. however, there is a down side to this. when i went to pay for my repair. the, i guess Arabic guy, who took a long time to get there... wasn't as friendly as the mechanics. and had sort of an attitude. while i was at the counter i decided to get a candy bar. i opened it after leaving the store, only to find that it was melted when i grabbed it from the shelf and someone or some kid had decided to poke his finger through the package and ruin the candy bar before i bought it. this is my first review I've ever written. and i wouldn't have written it, had it not been for this visit. i don't stop by there often. only when I'm running low on gas in the morning or evening to and from work. it is the easiest gas station to get to on my side of the road. so if you want your car worked on. and want to meet some of the most friendly people in Virginia. stop by here. but stay away from the candy bars and gas unless you're paying at the pump. Wanted to take a quick minute and commend Newgate Sunoco's friendly and competent staff for a job well done. They were able to diagnose a steering problem on my truck within MINUTES by just looking at the system itself (a problem that could have been devastating on the road had the system failed). Not only did they fix it perfectly, they had to order the part, over night delivered to the shop, and still had it back to me within 24 hours. I'm now "spoiled" by their service and price and will not take my vehicles anywhere else from now on! read more

This place is a ripoff!! I took in my car for safety inspection. They told me I needed an exhaust pipe and their quote was extremely overpriced. The exhaust pipe they got from Olympic was only $99. They priced the part at $365 not including the labor!!! WTF !!! This place should be closed down for overpricing customers!!! read more

I have been taking my cars here for almost three years (ever since Centreville Tire and Auto tried to charge me $950 for a $150 radiator replacement) due to their honesty and fair prices. But it seems like there has been a change in management because the last couple times I have been here the pricing has been ridiculous. What finally pushed me to seek a new auto shop was I took a van in because the blower for the heat was not working. They quoted me just under $800 to replace the HVAC control head and blower motor resistor. I went to AutoZone, bought the relay for $18, found out how to replace it on google, and 10 minutes later my heat was working like normal. I understand shops will charge $70+ an hour for labor, will upsell parts by 100% or more, sometimes charge a "tool usage" charge. But keep it reasonable and don't charge me for things I don't need. read more

They played with our hard earned money. Charged $2000 stating we will get your car purring again. Good news it will purring again, bad news it will be $2000, so they stated. We picked it up and it didn't run and had been in the our garage since then, till a friend's mechanic told us the truth of what happened. They did try to remedy the situation, but only because there was a review on this site and on BBB. And under the condition we admit it was our fault. They also never put their offer out formally, just through a facebook message. The name of the person who contacted us couldn't be recognized by their Headquarters. The Station owner, never ever wrote us and only sent us a generic card to come and get our oil changed there. No acceptance of fault and no offer made, was followed through on. We hope in the coming year they review their motive to work in this industry where scams run rampant. read more
