Oh, I would absolutely give this place a negative ten stars if that were a thing--because clearly they've earned it. We order Newk's all the time for our six-person office meetings, and let me tell you, every single time I'm thrilled, NOT!!! Out of the 20+ orders we've placed, they have impressively managed to get every single one wrong. Truly a talent. And of course, we never have time to go back and fix their "creative interpretations" of our meals--because who doesn't love surprises, right? I'd only recommend this place if you enjoy receiving the exact opposite of what you ordered. Oh, and the French dip with no au jus? Adorable. This was a disappointing experience. Food: Food was just not good. Or great. I choked it down because traveling and already ordered. You can tell this is a trouble location. French dip. Almost nothing but bread. 1 and 1/2 small slices of meat. That's it. Like so little meat that it's sad. Just really sad because I picked this location for just that....it's location. I asked for no creole mustard. Of course it got put on there anyway. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly and did her job. But unfortunately the kitchen was a miss this time. Again, I had to eat it and go because I just didn't have the energy to make complications, so I choked it down. Service: The actual service was fine. No complaints. Atmosphere: Fine. No complaints. Restroom: Disgusting and filthy with a leak problem or a lack of cleaning problem. Horrible. Clean it up. Overall: I give 2 stars only because of the tea, which seemed good, and the soup I guess. And the politeness. Maybe the other food is OK - but the french dip was a miss. This location needs help. I do feel like the value was cheated from me this time. Value was not there today. $12.99 for a sandwich with measley portion of meat? Owner - how would you feel if I served you that? I want you to order it and see what I mean. The worst part is I complained to management about it 3 weeks ago, yet nothing has changed. Here's the icing on the cake. Today when I picked up my food I had to wait on the food to be prepared. No big deal. But, I get to my house that is less than 0.2 miles away and the sandwich is cold. This tells me that none of the food that I ate from Newk's today was made fresh. My daughter and I usually eat here twice a month. I'm not sure what's up with this location in Jackson, MS, but it has been on the decline for quite some time. We tried it again yesterday around 6:30 pm. The restaurant felt dirty, floors sticky or wet, the empty tables were not clean with trash and crumbs, the food took 20 minutes to come out, and the server seemed in a daze/uninterested. Also the tipping at checkout prior to actually receiving the food and service needs to be able to be retracted at the end of the meal. Service was super nasty this time and they screwed up my order. I ordered the cobb salad with a half sandwhich pairing. They forgot to put salad dressing in the bag. They also forgot the utensils. They also forgot the bacon on the salad which the salad came with. I was constantly going back to the counter to request what should have been placed in the bag to start with. Neither young woman i spoke to smiled. They appeared unfriendly and like they didnt want to be bothered. So very disappointed in my last visit! Knew it was going to be a bad experience when I had to explain to cashier that they actually had a shrimp poboy on the menu and it did not have avocado on it. Wait time was long. It was middle of afternoon and it was not crowded. I think part of the wait was caused by employees talking loudly amongst themselves. My companion got his meal several minutes before me. I had ordered 1/2 poboy and tomato soup. Have you ever had burned tomato soup? It is a dark color and tastes awful. Why the cook thought I wouldn't notice is beyond my reasoning. The Newk quality has really changed in recent months for the worse. I used to eat at Newk several times a month. i needed this meal, it was such a bad day y'all. like i hadn't eaten all day, was hyperstressed because grad school, & everything was just not going gooood. this was the finish to my long day that i literally NEEDED. i came here around 7:45 with a friend & we dined in. our food was brought out quickly & i honestly planned on just having something on my stomach, i didn't put much thought into if this was going to be good or not. long story short, it was one of the best CASUAL salads that i've EVER HADDD! i had no idea what i was getting myself into but this was amazing. i got the avocado & shrimp salad w/ balsamic vinaigrette dressing. i also got a side of the crab & lobster bisque. again, a really good casual soup. i was overall HIGHLY impressed with my experience here. definitely will be coming here more often for some casual quick eats!! We stopped in on a Sunday on a long driving trip. Newk's is located right off the freeway and offers a decent meal pretty fast. The mac and cheese, greek salad and turkey avocado sandwich were all good. The french dip was dry with a very salty au jus. I don't think that is on the regular menu. I have never personally visited this location of Newk's Eatery, but I have had carry-out from this location a couple of times. It is located near my Jackson office, so when I visit we'll often grab lunch from this spot. My experiences with the food have been good. Everything has always tasted good, though it's a bit difficult to keep items extremely hot for carry-out orders. I don't have a lot of knowledge about Newk's Eatery, though we have them here in Kentucky as well. Honestly, to me, Newk's seems like a typical chain restaurant, and those are just never my favorite. If you're looking for a quick easy spot to grab a bite, Newk's can definitely fill that void for you; but, if you're looking for an awesome meal, this isn't the spot I would recommend. read more
