I was really looking forward to writing a positive review about this company - I collected 5 quotes to replace many of the windows in my house, and Newpane was by far the lowest. I chose them not only because of that, but because I strongly prefer to support local businesses whenever I can. Pros: Windows work fine as far as I can tell with my non-expert eye; no leaking after all the rain we have had this winter, insulation is much improved. Price was right a little too good to be true. Cons: Customer service is abysmal. It was like pulling teeth to get ahold of them and get information from them and to schedule things via email or phone; the workers left dirty boot prints all over the inside of the house, there were multiple areas with damage to the landscaping and to parts of the inside and outside of the house. This was especially frustrating because nobody called to alert me to or to apologize for the damage, I had to discover it on my own several days after the work was done and I returned from being out of town. When I did contact them about the damage, they were not apologetic or remorseful at all - to be honest it sounded like they expected this and it's pretty standard (I'm certainly not the first reviewer to mention damage). They didn't offer any repairs or compensation, and when I asked for it I was met with confusion/dismissive attitudes. I noticed more damage at a later date and alerted them to it, yet have still not received a response. All in all I would not recommend Newpane. They were frustrating to deal with and not really worth the money saved. read more

Newpane came to install my windows which i had replaced in a home built in the 80's, so needless to say, the original windows were pretty bad. But upon installing my patio window, the workers had brought one that opened the incorrect way. So I had to wait a few weeks to get it installed, with no concessions really for the mistake made on their part and time lost. And they installed a screen in another window with a hole in it. Then when they returned to install the patio door finally, (which admittedly was a bear because the old patio window was so old), they applied a beat up mdf moulding around the pane. When I asked the installer about it, he said they are meant to only be primed and would be covered by paint. So the scuffs and nicks wouldn't be apparent. But this moulding was nicked, dented, and clearly someone else's castoff. When asked the owner to have it replaced, I was told by the owner to simply paint over it and then tell him if I still want it replaced. I replied that I wanted it replaced, and don't want to paint over marred mdf...and what did I get back as a response? Nothing...still waiting for the screen too. Will never recommend or use NewPane again due to sloppy work and poor customer service. read more

This is a rare (for me) one-star review. In 2009 Newpane in Dixon installed two large double-paned, tinted to meet DoE energy standards sliding glass doors (and thus qualify for a tax credit) in the rear of my house. One of those doors also had a small pet door. It's now nine years later. The sliding glass doors are still working great, but the pet door flap has deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Okay, no problem, this is a wear item, and needs occasional replacement. I tried loosening the four machine screws on the indoor side of the pet door bezel, but the bezel wouldn't budge. Somewhat mystified, I e-mailed Newpane and asked for a quote to replace the pet door flap, plus a spare flap, since I planned to watch the installation with the goal of replacing the flap myself next time. Initially Newpane responded, saying they would be sending a quote. When the quote didn't show up, I queried them, only to be told that the pet door manufacturer is out of business and there is nothing they can do. Excuse me, this was a product recommended by Newpane, not me. I asked if they could suggest a solution (perhaps an alternative vendor), but now they no longer respond to my e-mails. So Newpane gets a one-star rating from me for not standing behind their product. read more

My HOA requires me to use a specific style of window and glass. Newpane is the local installer they recommended. At first it was great - they measured and came for the instal as expected. During instal two of the panes cracked - they assured me they would put a rush order on replacements - no problem ... things happen. Since the windows are covered under warranty Newpane completed replacement paperwork with Milguard for the replacement panes. The following is why they are getting a one star review from me. 1. Newpane didn't "rush" the order. In fact they did the opposite - they forgot to put in the order and lied to me blaming Milguards new entry system. I found this out when I called after a month asking about progress. 2. The edging around my windows are already bubbling (after 2 months) and I had to secure them myself. 2. I received a post card with my appointment date from Milguard, but not the time. When I called to get the time I learned they had left me a message - Newpane put the wrong number on the paperwork so Milguard had no way of contacting me correctly. (When I say wrong number - I don't mean one digit. It was a different area code and phone number - there were no similarities to my number.) 3. When the tech from Milguard arrived he was unable to fix BOTH cracked windows because not only did Newpane put a wrong phone number on my paperwork - they also identified the wrong section of window as well so the installer came with the wrong size pane. It has now been 4 months since my windows were installed and I still have a crack in my "brand new" windows. Now I have to wait for another pane to be ordered - I am probably looking at a total of 6 months to have the windows I paid $5,000 for to be completed. No one seems apologetic or helpful either. I am not an angry person on the phone as I know it never is the person who picks up the phones fault (Well, other than the woman at Newpane who lied and blamed the new system for not putting in my order.) Please save yourself the trouble and go with another installation company. This is my first yelp review - I want to be sure to save others the frustration. read more

My husband reminded me, that a year later we discovered New Pane forgot to install the weather stripping around the bathroom Window. After the nightmare getting the long list of corrections addressed, we contacted the window manufacturer instead of New Pane for assistance with repairing the issue. The manufacturers sent their own contractor who completed the repair. As with any contracted work, my advise is to pay close attention to the work while it's being done and don't hesitated to consul with the Window Manufacturer about questions or concerns you may have. If something doesn't look right or the contractor is unwilling to work with you to remedy the concern the manufacturer can be a great help. In our case Milgard came to the rescue. read more

We had 3 windows done. One window broke during installation. They taped it and we waited about a month for a new window. This window broke on the way to our house. We waited another month for a new window. Again, the window broke on the way to our house. We waited another month almost and finally they got the new window in. I understand accidents happen but this was excessive. Also, poor communication regarding when windows would be ready. Finally, they charged the full amount and offered no discount. I requested a discount and was offered an insulting 50$ discount. I did not take it. read more

I am very happy with my new Milgard windows installed by Newpane last week. I originally wanted just one window replaced, but the cost was so reasonable that I was able to replace all the windows on the West side of my place. Newpane was fast, efficient, and even took care of sealing my neighbor's window, which had obviously not been done properly the first time. No cost for that extra either! My mother had Newpane replace her windows a couple of years ago, and she's very happy too. I can most certainly recommend Newpane. read more

I am basing my review for the following reason. Bought my windows from Newpane a few years ago, of course when you are looking to buy something the seller is usually great communicating and so forth. The install was fine mind you we have been in a drought for a few years or at least not had much heavy rain until now. I had my contractor buddy come and check why water was coming in the house through the window sill. He and another person (they do not know each other) said the same thing call your window company because it is the flashing of the window / installation might not have been done correctly. I had all my windows done by Newpane. I called them and spoke to the owner, who initially was great when I purchased the windows but became defensive about this one window in question. Needless to say he said you are not under warranty anymore under them and that its not for them to fix. I did not make a big deal when their guys knick my counter top with their tool twice and made chips on it. And they cannot fix the flashing on my window. I am truly disappointed in them not wanting to make this right. I am not trying to get one over on anyone just want it to be fixed. He wanted to charge me $75 just for them to come out and look at it. What a joke and very unprofessional. The sad part is when I had my windows placed in I recommended them to a couple of people. I will not do that anymore. Guess the towel at the window sill will have to do for now until I can find a professional to fix this and do it the right way. I cannot recommend this company. read more

Decided to remodel a couple rooms in my house and upgrade my windows that newpane installed and as the contractor took out the windows they noticed how awful newpanes installation was. One window was held in only by the caulking around the outside of the window and the other window had scres only going into about 1/2" of the frame. Do not get your windows installed by this company!!!! read more

Don't bother!I had 12 windows and new patio sliding door installed in 2010.After the first rains we got the sliding patio door began to leak from above the top rains subsided and they sent out a couple of guys to size up the leak they scraped away the old chaulking and resealed it all around.Them as I addressed the large patio door water the south and west windows showed signs of leaking.After a 2 week wait another guy shows up with a partner,same thing scrape all the old chaulking and reseal around those windows.Next rain same issue water entering the house at almost every window and the patio slider as well.Thisrd time another guy shows up.I request that a person of more authority come out and inspect the install or warranty the windows due to leaks or improper installation?!The guy calls his boss who tells me that the house is leaking water from some other source and it would take removing all the windows as well as the patio slider and they weren't going to do that?I thought all their products were warranties for the life of the home???Now I attempt to call them again with 3 calls no reply.Terrible way to do business and shame on Newpane for not following up on my request.Probably will have to take them to court if I want any action at all.Don't trust them or rely on any replies from them after they've sold you the product.Very sad and unprofessional I regret even writing this review but buyer beware. read more

I cannot give them the number of stars they deserve! From coming out to give us a quote to ordering and installing this company is the best!!! We had them install 2 sliders and 20 windows. They gave us an estimate of 2 days for total install start to finish. During the first day of install the crew of 3 came across an electrical issue we had and instead of covering it up and continuing their install they stoped and allowed me to fix the issue before completely starting over with install of the slider. After they first day the lead guy said they might have to extend install to a third day. On day two they added a fourth guy to help with install and hustled to finish the job the second day, all while keeping a clean house and being respectful of us while working from home during the process. Any issue I found with the windows or doors they addressed right away and if they couldn't fix the issue they scheduled service from the manufacturer. We are very happy with the end product and highly recommend Newpane and their crew. read more

I was refereed to Newpane by a good friend who knew someone in the past who worked for them. After getting a quote that was alot more than Anderson windows I went with them because they took the time to visit the site and measure all the rough openings. The biggest mistake I made was paying the invoice in full just to place the order. After the original shipment was delivered there were 2 windows that were the wrong size. After calling Newpane they told me they would be in contact with Milgard to expedite the order. One window came correct and the other was delayed. At that point they called me and said that the other window was miss quoted and that I would need to now pay an additional several hundred dollars because it was larger. After reminding them that they came onsite to measure I told them its not right for me to pay an additional charge for their mistake. After several calls they agreed to get the right window ordered. By this point my project was delayed by almost 6 weeks. Two weeks later I receive the last window and much to my surprise its the exact same size as the first one. Now we are at best case going to be 8 weeks delayed because of Newpain. This set the whole project into a tailspin because the stucco was delayed because they had another commitment and could not finish the job for 3 more months. The right size window did finally show up after a total of 12 weeks from the original delivery. Along the way with many calls and emails to Newpain and Millgard I thought after the last window was delivered I would be able to close the chapter on the worst part about our project. Not the case. After all the stucco was done and we went to install the screens 3 were missing or the wrong size. I have tried to work it out with Oldpain with alot of patients but now that its been 18 months after our original order and 2 additional visits by Newpane just to remedy the 2 final screens. One was 1/4" to tall and the last one was a casement window and they delivered a standard window screen. If your looking for a company to just get you the right product I would not use them and could not even consider how much worse my experience with them could have been if I was counting on them to install as well. NO WAY! If you choose to do business with them you have been warned. read more

I called to get a second quote because one local company had quoted me what turned out to be really junky windows. New Pane's owner, Michael, told me that even if I didn't use them, I should still not go with the first company's quote. He was honest and helpful, and I felt he really watched out for me. He even got me the Stimulus tax rebate - and I ended up paying less than that original quote, for way nicer windows! I was home when they came out to install windows- the group worked really fast and was done in four hours. I had no dirt in the house or other issues. They were fantastic. Worst buying experience I have had and I'm 61. Everything from start to unfinished 6 weeks later. While the installers at Newpane were all very nice and installation was done well, 5 out of 6 windows needed immeadite replacement. The reason? included three windows that were the wrong order, and 2 windows with poor quality. After several phone calls between Newpane and Milgard, Newpane finally resolved 4 windows 5-6 weeks after the start. Still waiting to have the 5th window resolved, which has the grid pattern in the sliding window, one pane lower then the grids in the second pane. read more

It's Easter Sunday, 2011. Last Wednesday night when I was out of town, someone broke in through a window and burglarized my home. Fortunately, there was little damamge other than the window. Another silver lining was the fact that as I've renovated/added on, I've been replacing my original 1992 white aluminum Milgard single hung with their beautiful tan double-hung Tuscany vinyl, which combined with those new pull-up blinds, gives me perfect fresh air circulation with complete privacy. When the quote I received from the local Milgard dealer for a new window was almost five times the cost of glass replacement (over $1,100 installed) I reluctantly ordered the glass only. I don't know why I hadn't thought of Newpane. I'd done business with them two or three times over the years and was extremely happy with their advice and service. I had particularly enjoyed talking with Michael King, the owner; and our conversations would go well beyond the subject of windows. While I am not as fortunate as the previous reviewer to have met and actually know him, we did share some acquaintances and experiences in the Bay Area building trade. I don't think I've ever dealt with a sales person (let alone a window salesman) who was more forthright and helpful, e.g. recommending a less expensive product when it was of similar quality and even referring me once to another company where shipping factors for one particular window (a large Tuscany Bay) resulted in a lower cost than his. When I called yesterday (Saturday) during non-business hours, I was expecting to leave a message; but true to form for this company, Michael answers on his cell (I believe from the golf course). He seems shocked at the quote, we share some fun political banter and he tells me he'll check with his office and get back to me today with a quote. His price for the window (uninstalled) is less than half that of the local outlet's. Unfortunately I wasn't here to take the call and thank him personally, so I thought I'd do so with this review. We purchased Windows from Newpane 11 years ago. It has been a nightmare ever since. We had a leaking window that they came out to fix over a year ago. The worker broke our screen and it's like pulling teeth from a dragon to get them to replace it. Their lifetime warrantee is a joke. All the windows were installed improperly and they will not fix the problem. We have called many times and only get a answering machine. Rearly do they return phone calls - unless it's to take your money. My suggestion, if your looking for new windows, buy them from anywhere else! You'll never regret not buying from Newpane for they certainly are a pane {pun intended} to deal with. read more
