Who knew that a driving range would have some pretty good eats? Well, I decided to follow fellow Yelpers' reviews once again, and since we wanted to check out somewhere new, we pulled up to this spot in Aiea. Korean ladies run this place, and K-Grub is some of my favorite foods to attack, so I ordered their burger and fries. Yeah, it looks like an ordinary burger and fries, but its the hamburger patty where they add their little Korean twist to, and it was pretty good! They have other Korean specialties available if you want more than just a burger. Its outdoors, and there's not much of a view unless you enjoy watching people whack some golf balls. Okay this was my first time ever going to a golf range and there's some definite tips I can offer as a newbie. There are 30 stalls but it's not under a roof or shade so bring a hat and apply sunscreen if going during the day. We went on a Sunday at 2 p.m. and there were only about five stalls in use. Heeding other yelpers advice we brought cash as we didn't know how much golfing we'd do. We got the full bucket of balls for $6 and brought our own driver + putter. You pay for the balls in the Pro Shop and they give you tokens and a basket. You go down to the Stalls and there are two machines which dispenses balls for tokens. Here's the biggest tip: you should buy a fat rubber golf tee from the pro shop cashier and not the wooden pointed tees sold in bags. This is because the mats you golf from have wide holes to put the rubber tees in to prop the ball up. They rent these rubber tees $1.25 for the same price as buying them so you may as well buy one. If you don't use a tee you can't really launch the ball up very high, but it's doable. I had the char siu fried rice from the snack bar and it was really good. The staff was very friendly. Right now they don't have their liquor license and they said you can BYOB. They have a water fountain with cool water. The pro shop has the keys to the restrooms. The women's restroom is in the same building as the pro shop. The men's bathroom is behind the snack shop. The putting green had 6 holes about 10 feet apart from each other and was in decent shape. There's a lot of benches everywhere to sit down and the snack bar has a nice area under the shade. My boyfriend is developing his golf game and we decided to spend our 4th of July morning hitting some balls at the driving range. Although we live in town, we decided to drive to Newtown to meet-up with my brother and his little family. It's been years since I've visited this driving range and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was still in good shape. A bucket of balls is about $5.25, which I'm told is cheap, and overall I found the facilities to be very clean. It was very busy and almost every tee was taken. We rotated off of three stations and began swinging away at balls. Everyone is so engrossed in their own swing that you really don't need to be embarrassed if you're a beginner or just plain suck. I was worried that it wouldn't be family friendly but the benches right behind each station made it really easy for us all to hang out. My children had a great time chucking their balls and my boyfriend was a great instructor to our two year old. Gotta start 'em young right? I braved a few swings, even though it's been quite a while since my last golf outing and managed to whack a few to the moon. My boyfriend replied: "That is so hot!" Well darn, maybe we'll need to make the Newtown Golf Range a regular stop in our weekly family activities! My one tip is to try to get to the range earlier in the day or the early evening before the crowds, because it's crazy hot!!! read more

This is probably the best driving range on Oahu. Although the hitting surface is all mats, this is still a great driving range. There is ample parking the size of the bucket of the balls and the price is really good. The location is centrally located. The restaurant connected to the range is pretty good too. After reading a review this past week, we decided to try this place. I ordered thie chicken wing plate- that was pretty decent, but I still miss Chicken Alices from my kid days of long ago. Flavor was okay, nothing popping to say the least. The plate came with some pickled cabbage which was yummy! Also, the satandard 2 scoops of rice. Overall, I'd give this 3 stars. Hubby got the mixed plate (2 choices) 2 scoops of rice, pickled cabbage, kalbi and chicken katsu. Per his lips, he just enjoyed the kalbi and couldn't get enough. He said it was soaked well and cooked perfectly. As far as the chicken katsu, it was hot and crispy and he said, tasted better than most that he has ever tried. He rated this plate 4 stars. He wished the portions were a little bigger and said if it was, he'd come here a little more often. Service was standard, we started to give our order to a Korean man, but I think there might have been a language barrier, so a middle aged Korean lady came to take our order. We waited for about 10 minutes for our food, which was okay because we got to watch golfers practice their swing. We decided to eat there and were amazed that while we ate, there was no flies around to bother us, since we were eating out in the open. They have 6 wooden picnic tables with a television set on a sports channel, to entertain all who decide to eat there. The womens bathroom was kept clean and tidy, which if you really have to go, a relief. Overall, If I'm ever in the neighborhood I'd probably stop by again. If they fix their portions, my husband will be there more frequently. A suprise here, is they serve breakfast. read more

We don't come here too often but since it's close and convenient we do sometimes. There is always parking. I'll say Newtown Golf range is strict. Very nice and clean and I've never tried but I heard that they have some good food there too! I love that they have chairs on each stall so everyone can sit. There's definitely no alcoholic drinks allowed here which is pretty normal. Few years ago we brought a cooler and the owner told us we couldn't have that there. The only con is that your assigned to a stall so you can't choose where you want to be. This wasn't good when we went in because we were assigned right in front of a family. Their little son and daughter was practicing and there balls were flying everywhere. Since it wasn't that busy, we wished we could've went to another open stall. Right before we left, the boy's golf ball flew over to our side so good thing we didn't get hurt. Besides that, it's a nice golf range! read more

Came here around 8:54 still wasn't 9pm yet and they had already stopped and closed down for balls. Very disappointed because we came from town to drive here and they didn't follow their hours of operations. They can't advertise 9pm if your gonna shut down early. read more

We came here a few times in the past to spend some time on the range but each visit seems to get worse. The older gentleman who works in the shop is very rude. Each time he has serviced us (as we rent clubs as well), he has been very rude and sarcastic. We stopped going here for a long time due to very poor customer service. We would love to come back but if service continues to be this way, we will patiently wait or even travel farther to another range. I do hope management sees this post and fixes it fast! read more

Don't mind the stars but, it says on yelp that they close at 10PM. Turns out they close a 9PM, really wish I knew this before going to the driving range. When I asked if they closed at 9 , the old guy says " well that what it says on the door" the attitude in his voice was just for no reason. They have been closing at 10PM for as long as I can remember and there's no problem with them closing an hour earlier but the attitude the old guy has is just plain rude. It's like he hates his job and takes it out in the customers with his stubborn personality. I hope they can change the time on yelp to help future customers be on the same page. Nice well kept facility only problem is it smells like a bad sewer line break near the putting green and from stalls 21-30. If the wind is blowing towards players then it's pretty nauseating. Can't see how that smelly fumes are not hazardous to ones health. read more

I came at 1158am on a Friday and was told although the sign for $10 baskets on Monday through Friday from opening to 12pm wasn't valid because the computer assumed that even though we bought the buckets before 12pm, we wouldn't be able to fill the buckets before 12. Kind of deceiving. read more

My BF lives up the hill from the driving range, so whenever we're too lazy to cook breakfast, we come here for pancakes or loco moco fried rice from the little restaurant. The gravy is thick and flavorful, and although the fried rice isn't as good as my favorite Kapiolani Coffee Shop down the road, the patty and eggs combined with the perfectly-cooked over-medium eggs is TASTY. This place is run by Koreans, so expect a bit more garlic in the meat than usual! The couple who runs it is very nice, and they give a good amount of food for the prices. I've only used the actual driving range once, and it was fun (I really suck at golf). It's very casual (lots of local uncles and grampas) and not hoity-toity at all. read more

Probably the best driving range in Hawaii. Although you only can hit off mats, it's a flat range where you can actually tell your distances. The balls are pretty good as well. Not like the worn out rocks you'll find at Ala Wai. Empty in the day...although pretty hot and crowded at night. Nice little diner available also on the range where you can get some food while you wait at night for a stall. The range workers aren't the friendliest...but what can you expect from guys that sit in a room selling range tokens all day! read more

Hands down one of my favorite places to go to just chill & have fun! I recently took my boyfriend here for a date, & we both had lots of fun! I've been here 5 times, & I am slowly getting better with each visit. I have never had any prior training, but it's a really great stress reliever, & Lord knows I could use all the help with that I can get! lol! We had lanes 26 & 27 which coincidently happened to be the lanes my friend & I had last time. It's close to the end, so the pressure of other golfers watching you hit the astroturf instead of the ball is MUCH alleviated! One thing that I really loved about this place is the location & prices! $5 gets you a basket of balls. & it is conveniently located behind Dave's Ice Cream & Grace's in Aiea! Also, they sell food & beer there!! But be forewarned! 1 can of beer is $5! Absolute ridiculousness, but when you're thirsty & on date night - What's better than beer & golf?? I enjoy Newtown golf course, they get busy but it's a nice set up and the workers are nice. As for the restaurant "Asian Grindz" I'd give them no stars. Newtown should get a good establishment willing to stay open later, especially on the weekend. Or at least one that takes orders up until their posted close time not 45 minutes before. NEWTOWN DRIVE INN - this review is about the new restaurant 1/15 that has replaced the Korean one (2014). So - I was practicing my golf game at Newtown driving range, and my mouth was all ready for the Korean lady's excellent spicy pork plate lunch. SHOCKER! The Korean concession is gone and a NEW restaurant has replaced them. I didn't see any signs, but when I asked, the girl I talked to said they are calling themselves "Newtown Drive Inn". Dang it. I hate it when places I like close. Disappointed (no spicy pork, then - nuts!) I looked at the surprisingly extensive menu. They seem to specialize in loco mocos. Kalua pig moco, sliced ribeye moco, pastele moco (?) and the standard hamburger steak moco. "Haleiwa-style" shrimp ... I had to try this place. Excellent. Awesome. Superb. I'm not taking anything away from the fine Korean plates that WERE served there last year. But this stuff is GREAT. The pastele stew is the best I've had anywhere. The spicy garlic shrimp was cooked PERFECT (every other plate lunch that featured shrimp cooks them into rubber eraser consistency). The sliced ribeye swimming in gravy reminded me of Yoshinoya Beef Bowl - a restaurant chain in California that FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I cannot figure out why someone hasn't brought here, to Hawaii. Decided to try out something different and go to the driving range with my bf and our friends. Newtown golf is near my bf's place so we decided to check it out. I haven't golfed since I think high school and I'm embarrassed to say but I played on the golf team for 1 year. I guess that all seemed to go through the roof because I completely forgot how to do everything when we got to the driving range. Oh well at least it was something different for us to do! The place is nice & clean and the balls are cheap. It's too bad they don't serve alcohol anymore though! The restaurant is no longer there. Even though I was horrible at hitting the ball, I still had fun and definitely want to go back to get more practice! read more

Nice convenient place to hit some golf balls and get some good food. Range balls have gotten a little more expensive over the years, its $5.75 for a large bucket witch is more than enough to get some good practice in. The range has nice mats to hit off of and it's open at night so you can go at a good time like after work. There's a pro shop there if you need equipment too, though the selection is not as good as if you went to like a Roger Dunn shop or other golf shop. The restaurant is good too. Cheap eats and it's pretty tasty. Wide selection of local and korean foods. The Loco Moco is pretty good, the gravy is tasty, the hamburger did have an interesting flavor, like korean flavor, maybe it's just from the grill. But overall, it's not bad especially for the price. Blueberry pancakes better than I had anywhere else. The blueberries are placed with care and freshly made. That and the fresh-brewed coffee. It made my morning and the best day I had at a range. No comment on how you will do on the mat, but at $3 a medium bucket (2 1.50 tokens), you can keep on going... This place is so convenient but the workers here rather I should say the ONE worker here is such a douche bag it unbelievable he continues to work there! Very unfriendly, grouchy looking and I believe he is a mute! You ask him a question he looks at you and points to the signs on the wall. I mean I didn't look at & read every sign in there but geez is it that hard to just answer my question? My friends and I like coming here for the price, food, well maintained driving range, and golf balls. Even though it gets busy at night, we don't mind because we love the food. You can put your name on the list and eat or drink beer while you wait. My wife suggests this driving range for dinner sometimes and I don't complain because I get to smash a bucket. Recommend the kimchee fried rice w/ 2 eggs, loco moco w/ fried rice, the soups, kalbi, and chicken katsu curry. Haven't tried the others yet. We just wish the portions were a little larger. Only $5.25 for a bucket and you can buy a tee for $1.25 so you don't have to keep renting. There's also a putting green in average condition. Will definitely return to work on my swing and hit up more food 8D. read more

Wanna Whack These Balls?! :D One day I was sitting at home hungry back when I lived in Aiea. I didn't have my car and I didn't want to walk far. I have always been curious about this place and it was only a block from where I lived! When I got here I felt a good vibe. This is a cool place to hang out, hit some balls, and pass the time away. There is covered patio seating in front of the take away window. I could probably have spent a couple hours here just watching people hit their balls, just really go to town on those balls. LOL! ;) I liked the feel of this place because you don't have to play golf to come here. There is no snooty looks or pretentious air, everyone minds their own :) I would love to come here and relieve some stress from time to time! Smack those balls and show them whose boss! Bwahaha! ;D After chilling here for a few my stomach reminded me it was lunch time! I went with a Hawaii Korean classic, meat jun, because this place is operated by Koreans. I read another review about the meat jun saying it was good tasting and good portions, but it might have been an off day the day I went. It was not flavorful at all, the batter peeled off most of my meat, the meat was dry, portion for the price wasn't the best either, the sauce was bland to me, and the Mac salad also was terrible. I wish I could go back here and try something else. I would go back if I could because it is such a different place to relax for me. I'm sure the breakfast food and loco moco couldn't be that bad. I started to get back into golfing after not playing for about 10 years. First thing I wanted to do was work on my swing so why not head down to Newton's Driving Range. We arrived around 6PM and there were many lanes still open also the buckets of balls were very affordable! 1 token (1.75) 2 tokens (3.00) 3 tokens (5.25). 6 tokens were enough for our party of 4. I will be definitely coming back to work on my swing and also to try the restaurant that everyone has been raving about. read more
