Our dishwasher was leaking. We went into Newtown so and VAC to look at a new Bosch dishwasher. We explained our problem with our current dishwasher and he knew we were just looking at alternatives in case the current washer couldn't be fixed. He spent 20 minutes going through several different options with us. He was helpful, kind, and gave us 100% of his attention even though he knew we were not going to buy in the moment. He did recommend the name of someone that ultimately provided us with a solution to our leaking dishwasher. I have used this shop's services a few times, and each time I am very happy with the results. It is a hidden gem when it comes to vaccum repairs. There are very few true service centers within an easy drive from Doylestown. The owner is helpful and not pushy when it comes to sales. He also did not make fun of my little hoover, which is not a super sophisticated unit, unlike that other vaccum repair store that laughed at my little hoover, and in turn he lost my business forever. The Singer One sewing machine purchased through Amazon was a beaut, but came without power cord and foot pedal. A mistake to buy sight unseen. But, these parts shouldn't be too hard to find. Right? Thus began an unexpected adventure in sourcing spare parts in the arcane world of sewing machines. The company didn't offer parts on their website, and recommended only their few dealers around the country. Too, they weren't pleased that their equipment appeared to have fallen off a truck somewhere to be scavenged for the missing parts. The old Philly warehouse shops dealt only in industrial strength sewing factory parts and couldn't help out, although they expressed understanding of this predicament. Next stop was a small sew & vac store in Northeast Philly, who took a $20 deposit promising to order the pieces and notify when they came in. When called 6 weeks later to check on the status, they hadn't received them yet, but left the distinct impression they hadn't done anything but stuffed the $20 in their pocket. (A review of that enterprise is upcoming after I return to get back the cash.) Two weeks ago I noticed a small shop in Newtown that handled vacuums and sewing machines. Looked to be a recent addition to the business community. What the heck?! I stopped in to inquire. Greeted by Sandor, the owner, I explained the situation as he listened patiently. He advised I bring in the machine and his expert mechanic would check it out. I dropped off the still boxed machina a few days later. The following week Sandor called to say that he could order the new parts if I wished, or he could provide used cord and pedal already in his possession from another job. Sounded like a good idea, and yesterday I picked up the parts and happily paid his price. He actually dropped it a fin in support of the visit to the other dealer I was going to ask to refund the $20. He was sure, as I was, that those guys would have had the parts in hand if they had been ordered. It was great to do business with an honest man who went out of his way to get something done out of the ordinary purchase and repair services he routinely offered. My Miele vacuum hose split unexpectedly and I needed a replacement asap. I called Newtown Sew & Vac and they were immediately able to identify the part that I needed. Rather than ordering the part for me and leaving me temporarily without a working vacuum, they provided me with a hose from a new model and ordered a replacement for themselves. If you have any vacuum troubles GO HERE. This place was highly recommended by a friend of mine. I live way down in northeast Philly, so I thought, "gee that's a bit of a drive, but okay!" The owner is an absolute gem! Knew exactly what my problem was right away (long hair + roller brush = destroyed vacuum). It took a little longer than anticipated to get the part in, but getting anything shipped from overseas takes a while. No fault of his. Vacuum works better than ever! I recently took my Shark vacuum cleaner into Newtown Sew and Vac as it suddenly stopped working. I had never been into the store before. A friendly man approached and asked what the problem was and then proceeded to take it in the back and then called me to come back to see what the issue was. I was surprised by the amount of clog that had been created as well as two paperclips that really seized things up. He actually took the time to take the vacuum cleaner apart and use some instruments to remove all of the dirt and seized up material including the paper clips. As I found out, his name is Sandor and he has been at the Newtown location for 30 years. There is a reason why his business has flourished all these years. He is friendly, transparent and really wants to help the customer. He has a particular brand, (German) that he highly recommends and he proceeded to demonstrate the advantages of it (bag). He then wished me good luck with the current Shark vacuum cleaner and did all of the work for no charge!! Extremely impressed with Sandor and I highly recommend him to anyone considering either a repair, need information or a new vacuum cleaner! read more

The lovely owners were unbelievably kind and helped to find one that would work for me until I received an order I had placed on line. They really didn't have to go to the trouble but they did! Newtown sew and vac is a must go to neighborhood spot if you're having a problem with your vacuum. I was seen immediately, and my vacuum was inspected right in front of me. A clog was suspected, so the technician took me in the back to show me how to troubleshoot the vacuum. Sure enough he was right and it was an easy fix. After resolving the clog my Dyson vacuum runs like new and the shop refused to let me pay. I will be recommending this shop to everyone I know. I was thrilled by my experience at Newtown Sew and Vac. The owner, Sandy, is incredibly kind, knowledgable, and honest. I called recently to see if he carried belts for a particular vacuum. He explained that belts are not available for the vacuum, but the manufacturer requires folks to purchase a replacement for the entire bottom half of the machine. Sandy proceeded to teach me over the phone how to diagnose the problem. He said that he keeps spare parts around the store and to stop in if I'm not able to figure it out. It turns out it wasn't the belt, but another part that had failed on my vacuum. When I came in to talk to him and showed him my vacuum, he went to the back and brought out replacement parts to fix it. After talking for a while, I asked what I owed him and he said there was no charge! I will certainly be back for all of my vacuum needs! The showroom is clean, nicely arranged, and with a vast array of products. This store is easily accessible right off of the bypass. I couldn't recommend Newtown Sew and Vac more! read more

Friendly, knowledgeable, scrupulously honest. My wife and I live in Newtown and have used Newtown Sew & Vac periodically over the years for a sturdy old Singer sewing machine and different vacs. Always treated great. This past week (and one other occasion) my wife brought in a clogged Dyson vac. Following manufacturers instructions, I had taken apart each section and cleared them. Still not working. The Newtown Sew & Vac folks quickly pinpointed a different (unlisted) clogged part on the spot, cleared it, no charge. When you have no idea what a problem is, it's nice going into an establishment and feel comfortable that you'll be treated right - and then some. read more

I have seen heaven, and it's Newtown Sew and Vac. Don't call me overdramatic - I've been to countless repair shops with their crusty old dudes who make you feel like less of a person for having a broken item - but Newtown Sew and Vac is different. It's not a repair shop. It's an EXPERIENCE. Against everyone's better judgement, I bought a cheap, used sewing machine on the internet, and to no one's surprise, it didn't function as advertised. The seller was a stand-up guy and offered to repair it...if I mailed it back to him at $50 and tons of wear and tear on the machine, or I could take it to my own shop to see what they could do. I didn't have a "shop", so I didn't know where to turn until I Googled Newtown Sew and Vac. Sandor answered the phone, tried to help me troubleshoot it, and when all else failed, said I could bring it into the shop on a Friday when Tom, their repairman, would be there. I showed up that Friday, and to my surprise, Sandor remembered our phone conversation. I was a bit early, and he told me to make myself comfortable in their "kitchen" to wait a few minutes for Tom. His son arrived with the friendliest dog who DOESN'T jump or slobber (I'm from a dog family - friendly dogs jump and slobber on EVERYONE, but not this one!) and offered me a fancy coffee and some chocolate covered bacon. It was like I was a family member in their family kitchen! We chatted about an event they had had the night before, and I just knew I was someplace special...even before the repairman arrived! We also chatted about how much I had paid for the machine, which Sandor had plugged in and seemed to know everything about, and I was embarrassed to tell him how little I had paid for it thinking he would tell me I had gotten what I had paid for - a piece of junk. To my surprise, Sandor complimented me on having found a bargain, and when Tom arrived, Sandor, who was talking to a customer on the phone, told him I had quite a story. Tom listened patiently, laughed in all the right spots, then checked out the machine. In mere seconds, he correctly diagnosed the problem and attempted to fix it on the spot. Unfortunately, my stubborn bargain find just wouldn't fix. So Tom offered me several possibilities when he would take it back to his workshop - either it just needed a little extra TLC (oil) or perhaps a part, but no matter what, he was perfectly willing to talk with the original seller on the phone to work out the cost which he broke down with each possible repair. He also said he'd be in touch before doing anything that would cost a fortune "because it wouldn't make sense to charge a lot for something that had cost so little". Why was I ever embarrassed? It was like taking my broken toy to my favorite family member that I knew would value my toy as much as I did (and wouldn't overcharge me for fixing it!) I returned to pick up my machine the following week feeling pretty special. Sandor remembered exactly who I was and told me HE had a story for ME. Turns out the machine just needed some extra TLC after all, and Sandor wanted to make sure I wasn't mad at the original seller, a sewing shop in Central PA, for missing something that had caused it to not work. He said it was like taking the car in for an oil change and the shop disassembling the transmission - no one would actually do that because it didn't seem to need to be done, but in my case, it needed to be done, and Tom did the sewing machine equivalent of that. Pretty special, right? Well, as I was talking to Sandor about it, a customer with a Dyson vacuum came in right behind me, and Sandor's son was helping her to troubleshoot it just like they had done for me with my sewing machine the week before. Sandor explained that they try to see if it's something simple they can just fix on-site and not charge people - it's not about the dollars, it's about helping people. They help everyone who comes in with a broken "toy" and treat everyone like family. What an experience, and let me tell you, this place doesn't just feel like heaven - it smells like it too! read more
