We found an injured baby rabbit on our patio - the neighbors cat had bitten it and it was bleeding. We called many organizations and rehabbers in CT and NY but only got machines as it was after hours. A rehabber from NY got back to us and recommended VEG. They immediately took the baby in and began working on it and promised to call rehabbers to take it once it was cleared to leave. They were very gentle and you could tell they really cared. Unfortunately I had to take my dog to the vet last night because she had I horrible ear infection. I walked into VEG and was instantly treated with respect and compassion. The receptionist was wonderful and helped me through all of my paperwork. The vet techs and nursing staff were attentive and efficient. They instantly took a swab of my dogs ears so they could get a culture while I was still doing the paperwork. Dr. Raja came by and took the time to listen to me and get to know my dog. He even went over to confirm the nurses analysis of the cultures. He had a wonderful bedside manner. We were able to sit in the open layout room on a couch together while a nurse carefully cleaned out her ears and administered antibiotics. I was with my dog at every step in the process. Six stars!!! Awesome place and amazing staff!! Came here on a weekend and even though they were busy, they had a sense of urgency for all pets in need, were incredibly thorough, professional and loving with our fur baby. After discovering the issue, they worked with us on options, were transparent and honest about risks and potential outcomes. They kept our cat comfy, rehydrated him and got him in a better state to endure surgery, while we waited to see if it could be avoided. When it became clear that surgery was inevitable to save our cats life, they took the liberty of calling around to a few other facilities to help us find a surgeon that could do the surgery our cat needed that day, for a non emergency price. I guess to get pricing, doctors need to hear from doctors, right? but here, there was no shame or judgment, attitude or resentment from VEGs in doing this for us, which says they truly cared about getting our cat the help he needed within our financial constraints. After we took our cat to a non-emergency facility for the surgery, VEG then welcomed us back for post op care and he was ready to come home after only a few hours. Best experience I could have asked for. This will be the first place we come to if we ever have an emergency again. Highly recommend! read more

I had an emergency with my 10-year-old Italian greyhound( her face was swollen and sensitive to the touch. As a pet parent, you panic and become emotional Because you don't know whats wrong, yet something is early wrong. I called and they said "come right over" They were so comforting and kind to us, meaning the dog and me it was a wonderful feeling. I was no longer panicked. What Penelope had was a small, painful mass something that needed to be addressed with her vet. They gave her pain management to keep her comfortable until the next day. I've been to VEG White Plains more times than I can count, and for the most part, it's been a positive experience from the moment we walk in to when we leave. But recently, I had an experience that was beyond upsetting. I had to bring my cat in because he was vomiting constantly, and while he was taken in quickly and examined by a tech, things quickly went downhill after that. The first issue was when one of the vet techs forcefully jabbed an IV into my cat's paw, causing him to scream in pain. I was in shock. Then, they asked me why his hind legs weren't working and suggested he might be having an embolism. I explained that his hind legs had been atrophying due to kidney disease, something his vet had already confirmed. But instead of listening to me, the tech continued to raise concerns about his legs with the doctor. Given my cat's feisty personality, they decided to put a collar on him to avoid being bitten. I get it, but at this point, he was already feeling terrible--sore and poked and prodded--and the way they handled him was rough. Then, one of the techs brought out a big, plastic bubble-like contraption and put it over his head. He couldn't move his neck or lift his head. When another tech asked where it came from, the first tech laughed and said it was a "new thing." My cat was terrified and confused, and the whole thing just felt completely unnecessary. They left him in that contraption for over an hour while I sat in the room waiting for an x-ray that took way longer than expected. To make matters worse, the second tech wasn't much better. If you're not able to handle animals--and worried pet owners--calmly and kindly, you probably shouldn't be working in this field. This whole experience was traumatic, and it's something I won't forget. I really think the collar could've waited until they saw how uncomfortable my cat was. Dr. Blutinger needs to know about this because this was not the level of care I've come to expect from VEG. read more

WOW! WOW! WOW! What an amazing pet emergency facility right in my own neighborhood! I have 2 doggies and my wonderful vet is about 1/2 hour from me and always very busy. When I had an issue with one of my pups, I remembered that VEG is really right next door. I cannot say enough about how wonderful they were to Teddy and me: compassionate, understanding and EXTREMELY professional. From the doctor to the associates, all made me feel as if my fears were being addressed and my anxious pet understood. BUT THE BEST PART of the visit was the ability to BE WITH MY PET at all times. There was no "handing him off" to a doctor or technician and not being with my pup during all that was happening. This REALLY makes a difference and I would highly recommend this facility, VEG Cos Cob to everyone! BRAVO! read more

I can't say enough positive things about our experience at VEG at the White Plains location in December 2023. Our almost 10 yo standard Goldendoodle (115 lbs!!), Finn was acting strangely on the evening of Dec 21st...couldn't settle and then began to vomit white foam. I had a feeling it was bloat (twisted stomach) l, which can often be fatal, and quite quickly. We jumped in the car with Finn and rushed up to VEG. We had called ahead so when we arrived, they addressed Finn by name and took us right in to be triaged. I was a hysterical mess and members of the team brought me water and lots of tissues while others were assessing Finn, getting IVs started, then off for x-rays to confirm it was bloat, which it was. We discussed options and they were good enough to take precautionary x-rays to determine if Finn, being a senior dog, had anything else going on like tumors or other issues that might have prompted a different treatment decision. He was pronounced otherwise healthy, so we, of course, wanted to move ahead with the surgery. The only awkward part was them having to determine if we had the resources to cover the cost, and given it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 10K ( and no pet insurance ), we needed to apply for financing via CareCredit. It was very hard to concentrate on that while also staying present to Finn. Thankfully, financing was pretty quickly secured, and Finn was then prepped -shaved, intubated, additional lines started, and we were able to be by his side for the entire pre-op process. We were then invited to observe the surgery through the large glass window along the back hallway. That experience might not be for everyone, but my husband and I did want to observe. It was reassuring as we knew what was going on every step of the way and the team gave us regular "feedback" via "thumbs up signals". One of the staff who was going off duty spent about 45-60 minutes watching with us to explain things and answer any questions. The surgery started around midnight and was 3.5 hrs long. They had prepared us that they might have to remove his spleen, as it could have been compromised (also raising the total cost) but happily, his spleen was in good shape! We stayed for post-up assessments and the insertion of a feeding tube. We all got him settled in the XL cage, and we wearily, but totally revved up, headed home to get a few hours sleep before heading back to check on him and spend some time the next morning. He was so happy to see us...they encouraged us to work on getting him to eat as he would not eat for them...but I knew that the Snyder's mini pretzels at the snack station would get him going and they did! We were able to walk him outside for exercise and encouraging him to do his business. That was a fail, but after we had left, one of the staff was successful. We received a call in the early evening that he was ready to go home! While nervous as to his care when we got him home, we couldn't believe that he was in great enough shape to be discharged. E.V.E.R.Y S.I.N.G.L.E person we interacted with from the person at the a front Desk, the Vet Techs to the Vets were amazing! Their evident knowledge gave us confidence and helped to calm us down, their bedside manner with Finn AND with his humans (US!) was first class. When you need an emergency vet, you know it's going to be an emotional and financial ordeal, but we received absolutely the best care, and 7 mos later, Finn is doing great and enjoying his senior years being loved on and spoiled with treats and toys! A huge, heartfelt thanks to everyone at VEG for saving our beloved boy's life, allowing us more time with our precious furbaby! read more

Strongly recommend staying away from VEG if at all possible. Their staff is extremely disorganized, stretched too thin and under-resourced. As a result, they are unable to keep track of everything they have going on - a crucial component of running an emergency group. My regular vet recommends VEG for after hours emergencies but I am encouraging my vet to try and find an alternate provider. read more

Absolutely phenomenal veterinary practice! I had to come to VEG in Greenwich twice in the last few weeks, once because my cat was in pain with a urinary tract issue and once with my pet bunny who was very ill likely with an intestinal blockage. Both times I brought my 7 year old daughter with me and both times the vets treated her, and our pets, with such care and sensitivity. The vets include the owner in the examination, explaining everything they are doing and why, and speaking to the family with real humanity and warmth. I was particularly impressed with how Dr Short cared for our pet rabbit. I called to ask if this practice treats rabbits and they were up front about the fact that they don't specialize in exotics but would do their best to stabilize her, knowing I would likely need to see an exotics specialist during normal business hours. My expectations were low given this practice doesn't really do rabbits but they were the only place near me that was open at such a late hour that would even see a bunny. Well let me tell you Dr Short revealed herself to be QUITE the rabbit expert. She handled Mrs Velvet GlitterBun with quiet confidence and immediately put her at ease. She administered subcutaneous fluids and other treatments, and put a heating pad and blankets over the bun as her temperature was alarmingly low. Dr Short explained everything she was doing and presented different options to us along with very transparent pricing, and didn't pressure us towards measures that were more expensive. We took the bun home and followed Dr Short's instructions and to say the recovery was miraculous is an understatement. I have been caring for an elderly Love Bird. On a Saturday at the end of September the bird became very ill. I reached out to VEG around 7:00 p.m. for some advice on what I can do. My call was answered immediately and the young man that answered the phone was so kind, and he promptly put me through to the doctor that was on call. The doctor was very thorough and instructed me as to the steps I should take to helping this poor bird. As a person that has never delt with reaching out to an emergency veterinary service I will say I was so impressed. They handled my call and situation with much concern and kindness. If you are ever unfortunate to need to get emergency care for your beloved pet, do not hesitate to call Veterinary Emergency Group. I highly recommend them. Came in on December 30, 2022 after our chocolate lab, Maddie, got a dire prognosis from our Vet and was recommended to go to an ER immediately. Cornell couldn't handle our case as they were short staffed. The Vet Emergency Group is brand new (opening was the previous day) and was closer to home. I was amazed by how efficient everyone was. Office staff was expecting us and waved us inside and Maddie was immediately triaged. The nurse immediately took her and made sure Maddie was comfortable and got her on IV. Dr Hanlan explained everything that was going on and kept us updated. They didn't push to get information and deposit until they had Maddie hooked up on the machines and IV as she was in bad shape. My husband and I were allowed to be with Maddie while they were working on her. Maddie unfortunately didn't make it but Dr Hanlan and her team were very kind, efficient and honest with us. I took my dog, Annie, for the first time this week. I thought the doctor and all the staff were just wonderful. Extremely caring and kind. I was able to stay with Annie throughout the exam and treatment so she was so much more comfortable than when I take her to the vet. I like how transparent the treatment and pricing is. Annie wasn't taken to a "backroom" without me so I always knew what was happening to her. Also, I was shown a detailed estimate of the cost so I could make an informed decision about the treatment. My dog was brought here by a dog daycare after being bit in their care. I was able to get there an hour after he was brought in. He was laying in a kennel. I was told he was next and it would be about an hour. I was told he'd need a catheter, sedation, and pain medication. I pushed back because he seemed fine once I got him out of the kennel. I was told it was absolutely necessary for him to be sedated to treat the wound. After an hour and 45 minutes I checked to see how much longer we would need to wait. I was first told we'd be seen right away. Then I was told it would be another couple hours. I had already been on the phone with my vet. At this point I left and went to my vet. My vet was able to treat him without sedating him and only with topical pain medication. I was in the room the whole time and this was by far the safer and better treatment plan for my dog in addition to I'm sure being a couple hundred dollars less expensive. I'm extremely glad I decided to leave. I'm confident my dog received significantly better care as a result. read more
