Super fantastic food. Super friendly owner! I found this on Yelp based on the reviews, and this place did not disappoint! The mahi mahi fish tacos were so perfectly cooked. The garlic crab, I left just coated in it, because I couldn't get enough. Definitely will be back and recommend to anyone I know! read more

This Guy is THE REAL DEAL! I forgot his name but he is the truth -Trust ; from a fellow New Yorker and i mean the real New York City lol . He catches his seafood and sells the SAME DAY . He was so nice a polite and prompt on timing of your food . He was near CVS and it was raining but he was open . Rain or Shine . I got the Buttered Crabs and babyyyeeeee let me tell you this is else 7-8 pounds of crab legs for $50 . You can't beat that love . You guys... Newts is the REAL DEAL. My God, I am so glad I found this place on yelp! If never find it on my own considering it's in the back of a convenient store! Please don't come here looking for a fine dining experience because you won't get it. However, you will get the greatest and freshest seafood you've ever had! The guys running the place are as nice as can be and are just doing what they love, which is trapping crab out back (literally, it's THAT fresh) and serving it to people who love seafood! My husband and I cannot stop talking about Newts. We will probably plan a trip back to Hollywood Beach just so we can return!!! read more

Insanely great blue crab combo platter with 6 big blue crabs and bonus sausage, corn, and potatoes for only $25 in a magical homemade garlic butter seasoning with tons of flavor and umami. I would eat this *every day* I can if/when I am in the area when the farmers' market is open (weekends only as of now.) Make sure you double check the location with a local as the map of the farmers' market had the wrong booth # listed for Newts Crab Trap. Super cool dudes running the joint, and pleasant conversation was had while picking my crabs at the bar. Truly the best quality and best tasting blue crab platter I've ever had. (And I've picked hundreds and hundreds of crabs!) I was literally in amazement in-between and during every single bite. This crew fishes their own local crabs by hand, and the crabs they select are better than any Maryland crab I've ever had. They're doing everything they can to prevent overfishing - which is amazing because that's exactly what Maryland is doing wrong! Wow what a nice place very simple laid back brings back memories from childhood. All I can say is that it is AMAZING and you better get in before they run out of crabs and fish which they catch themselves. Gumbo was wow and so were the crabs. The burger was 15.02oz amazing!!!! The crab and shrimp were fresh and delicious! The service was also great! We sat and ate our seafood bounty in a cool and friendly environment! I can't say enough about the quality of the meal, the reasonable prices and large portions! If you love live blue crab cooked and seasoned well, then this is the spot for you! I've got to be honest. Me and the wife tracked down Malachi and his food truck from the reviews I've seen. And let me tell you he didn't disappoint! Best seafood in Florida! I've been to a million places for crab boils and left with an empty pocket and nothing to talk about. Malachi's blue crabs are the meatiest crabs I've ever had and are all caught by him! Not quite sure why this placed received good ratings. Disappointment is an understatement. This restaurant is inside a supermarket. The parking lot is small but it is available especially because it is tough to find street parking. I was excited to see the reviews and also the "long wait time." The restaurant was crowded with a lot of people. The staff was nice but not the most professional. They lack communication, they will sell an item then come out and say that they ran out. However, they will say it after an hour though. I waited 2 hours and 37 minutes exactly to get my food to go and obviously putting a bit pressure on them to get our food out. We ordered 3 dishes and paid 67 dollars. The food was very salty and did not enjoy at all. read more

On business travel and looking for a great seafood experience. Searched google and yelp and came upon this place. If you're looking for a taste of old Florida - laid back friendly atmosphere - and fresh tasty seafood, this is the place for you. It's not the typical high end seafood restaurant so don't expect that at all. But what you will get is a fun, one of a kind experience and some damn good food. I ordered the combo, blue crab, shrimp with potatoes, sausage and corn and let me tell you it was amazing. I needed a lesson on how to get at the meat and was schooled properly. I made it 2/3 through the massive bowl. As I was eating the little place filled up and Uber Eats came and went delivering trays of goodies to locals knowing how great this little gem of a place is. They'll be moving soon to a larger locale with a liquor license and sports bar type vibe. I'll definitely be back with my group when we are back in May. Beat of luck Newt! Location- This is inside of a dirty, unorganized hole-in-the-wall bodega. It is hard to find. Find the Bodega and go in. It's in the back. Ambiance- It is dirty. Table is dirty. Dust and splattered dried on food on the shelf just above and left of our table. Very limited seating. Mistmatched bar stools. 3 small high tops. 1 3-seat lower table with molded plastic seats. They play music in the kitchen, and you will have to listen to that. Its mostly 80s alternative and rock. Timing- They literally only cook one tables' food at a time. They do not cook more than one thing at once, even if using different cooking methods. Most people ordered the steamed crabs and shrimp, those come out quickly and are *smothered with Old Bay Seasoning. LOTS. I had fish tacos. After about 40 minutes from the time we ordered, Newt came out and said he didn't have the Mahi I ordered and said he could only do the snapper at that price. After an hour, we still had no food. Bf went up and asked them. The staff (Newt's son?) was rude to him and told him "others were before you" and "we are working on it". Again, they do not have the ability to cook more than one person's food at a time, apparently. So prepare for a LONG wait, listening to 80's music blasted from a boombox in the kitchen. Food- it was just ok, and definitely not my style. The fish tacos have very dry slaw and Grey Poupon on them. Everything else is smothered in Old Bay Seasoning and garlic sauce. You have to get your drinks in the bodega and pay up front, then come back to eat. They do not serve the tables. Bf waited at the bar to order. They did bring the food out at least, an hour and 10 minutes after we ordered it (...for fish tacos and shrimp & grits). ‍Also, most of the meals are $25-32 each. $$$. Overall- Yelp really let us down on this one. 40-some 5-star reviews? Completely unbelievable to me based on my visit. But, apparently someone out there likes this laid-back no-frills salt-filled dirty spot. All the more power to ya. Just not my cup of tea. read more

THE BEST FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!!! A young lady at the airport suggested I Uber to the beach, close to the Margaritaville Resort hotel. I looked on Yelp to find a place to eat and decided to find Newts because of the 5 star rating and the reviews. I get there and it is located in the back of a grocery store. I meet the owner Malachi and his family and got the history of how he got started. I ordered the large crab tray and can I say the butter sauce on the crabs will make you want to do the happy dance. I wanted to purchase the sauce but I wouldn't get it through TSA. I am soooo looking forward to my next layover in Fort Lauderdale. You have to go to this place. You will not regret it. First of all very difficult to find. It's inside Joes Market. Walked into this grungy convenient store and went to the back. Very no frills set up. Not a great picture so far. Owner comes out and is extremely friendly. Small menu but the lunch items I was looking for. Ordered blackened grouper with cole slaw and cheese grits. When it came out it was as homemade a meal as it could be. Large piece of fish, fresh slaw and grits. Great little lunch. It's not fancy and actually quite divey but if you want a great meal with friendly staff try it out. read more

4 stars strictly because they have what I wanted which was Live Blue Crabs and not many do in Broward County. They are practically the only ones in the county who sell Live Blue crabs. This food truck is expensive and they charge a lot for the blue crabs but maybe because they're the only ones around who do. They charge by the pound. I grew up near Maryland so I was used to paying for crabs by the quantity which are usually divided by size class so I was shocked that this truck charges by pound. Their times vary and are sometimes inconsistent so always call ahead to make sure they are open and they in fact have crabs left before taking the drive. They accept credit card for an additional fee read more

I went for lunch with my husband and two boys (14 and 11). My 14 year old had the pulled pork sandwich which he claimed was the best he ever had. My husband, 11 year old son, and I shared the seafood combo. The seafood combo included one large crab, 6 sizable shrimp, a sausage, corn, hard boiled egg, and potatoes. The whole thing was smothered in a sauce which we have dubbed "the sauce of the gods". It was spectacular and my only regrets is I did not take the three potatoes that were left in the bottom of the bowl to go. The experience was magical. It did take about an hour to get our food since Newt just got in and started cooking when we came in. However, we stayed our hunger with beverages and chips from the convenience store. If you want a uniquely Florida experience which is just about amazing seafood come here and accept that all good thing come to those who wait. read more

I was in heaven. This was such a treat for me. We were blown away by how amazing this meal was. My husband, for the first time in many years, had to pause while eating just to be like wow this meal is amazing. It's located in the back of joes market. It reminds me of one of those spots in New York that's like in the back of a bodega down some stairs in a basement but is the best thing ever. It's ran by the man, lol should have asked names but assuming Newt, and his son. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays because those are the days they go out and catch what they're going to sell in the restaurant for the week. Places like this are hard to find and it just made our vacation that much more special that we got to experience this place and this meal. We got an appetizer that Newt Said was an older Florida dish. It was just the claws of the blue crab. Absolutely amazing. Then we got the blue crab bowl. Uhhhh!!!! The sauce!!! The shrimp!!! The crab. The sausage. The potato. All of it. So good. Besides the fact that everything was so fresh the sauce was just so delicious. Next time I'm in this area I will make sure to come here. read more

I live down the street and I was excited to try this place out given all the great reviews of a place that catches fish locally. The Customer service was friendly when I called ahead but I was not told there was an up charge for the grouper tacos until I asked once u received my bill.. Here's the bad news, I ordered the shrimp combo that comes with hard boiled egg, half a corn, potatoes and sausage. The biggest problem is this all site under s deep layer of butter sauce and made the whole meal gross. Half the shrimp were even soggy from sitting underneath a layer of butter sauce... but without a doubt it ruined all the sides and sausage. Was gross and at the end of it all spending $40 there tonight I thought to myself "what a rip off". Disappointing first experience.... read more

This place is a little hidden inside a market. No frills. Just a few places to sit in the back of the market. Soooo freaking tasty. We had the garlic crab bowl. It had potatoes and a sausage and an egg in the bowl within the delicious garlic sauce. We also had the fresh shucked fried oysters. Can't go wrong here. Newt let us try the smoked meat he also serves and now I have a new top five place to eat. Newt is super friendly and educated us about the fishing in Florida and how he gets the freshest fish. He even gave us a sample of Stone Crab which made my mouth water. This place is amazing. read more

Amazing crab place to eat in the Hollywood Beach area. Walking distance from Margaritaville, in the back of a liquor store - definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Coming from California and used to Asian crab pot places like Boiling Crab and Kicking Crab, Newts Crab Trap is different - yes, equally if not more delicious! Spectacular fresh seafood, great service by Newt himself. Don't let the location fool you - this place is worth every penny. We chose to sit outside, but the outdoor seating area appeared disorganized. Tables and chairs were scattered, the tablecloths looked dirty, and the floor was wet from what appeared to be a spilled drink that hadn't been cleaned up. There was no host stand and no greeting from anyone when we arrived, so it wasn't clear if it was self seating or hosted. we couldn't tell employees from the customers. Eventually someone told us we could sit anywhere. The staff member who assisted us was friendly, but he didn't seem very familiar with the menu when we asked about the differences between the fish options. We were also told they were out of sugar-free beverages and there was no beverage menu available. With some attention to cleanliness and organization, this place could likely offer a much better dining experience. The place seemed better suited as a seafood market rather than a restaurant, so we ultimately decided to leave and dine elsewhere. We hope the management takes note of these issues, as with some improvements this could be a much more enjoyable dining experience.
