If I could give 3.5 stars for the job itself, I would. First, the good - he was very responsive during the quote process, sent a good scope of work and contract via email, and used quality paint. He and his helper showed up on time, and were kind, courteous and professional. I really enjoyed chatting with both of them. The price quoted was fair and reasonable. In writing, Larry said that he'd be spraying the kitchen cabinet doors, which I preferred to brushing; however, there was no sprayer used for my kitchen. I let it go because the doors were not showing brush strokes but wanted to note because the job was not done as described. My second concern relates to attention to detail during the painting process. Some touch ups are to be expected (though, see below), but there was a level of sloppiness that I didn't expect from a pro. Primarily, they used spray primer along the base of the cabinets, which has left white spots along the moulding and in some spots, on the hardwood floors. And not taping has left some sloppy lines and paint on things like appliances and the backsplash. But all of this could have been addressed if Larry had come back for the touch up that was promised. I needed about a month between the cabinet painting and the touch up to take care of some personal matters, and Larry was responsive and confirmed the new date. Texts to re-confirm a few days before and on the day of went unanswered, as did a call. After a number of texts, Larry finally responded on July 28, the day after our scheduled appointment, and said he was having car trouble and couldn't get out to my home. I let him know it was fine, and to just keep me posted. I have not heard from him since then (over a month) despite sending additional messages.

However, when I pointed out that the job was incomplete and poorly done, instead of finishing it, you ran to my sister, who lives in California and has no ability to evaluate the work herself, to get out of your commitment. The morning of Brian sent a text confirming the time. I say "Yes". He replied "Ok, see you soon". 10:00, 10:15, 10:30, no Brian. I messaged to ask if he was still coming. He replied "I was unsure if today seemed like a good time for you. I didn't have chance to speak to you before. There was a lack of communication. But I would love to get you scheduled for a quote and speak with you about your project". Like, what? I replied that I had JUST confirmed 45 minutes ago and that he said "Ok, see you soon". Of course, he hasn't replied. That being said, of course I won't be scheduling a quote or using them. Very weird and poor customer service.

It was so depressing driving up to this house every day. I knew immediately that I wanted to paint the trim black. I had horrible experiences with people recommended on my community facebook page so I decided to try Thumbtack which I've used in the past. Whoever I chose I wanted to make sure that the company would take care of my historic home. Ken was one of the first companies to respond and I found him very friendly and knowledgable. He didn't bully or pressure me to make a decision and while viewing my home offered to replace some wood spots that rotted including the stairs going off our back porch. I did a couple other quotes but ultimately decided to go with BDL because of the wood work they included in the quote in addition to the painting. Ken and his crew spent 8 days total out at our property (including a Saturday) in horrible 90-100 degree weather. The communication was excellent as they notified me every day when they were coming, if they were going to be late, and when they were leaving for the day. They would notice additional items that needed to be repaired and offered to fix them for us. Because they were doing such a good job I asked them towards the end of the project if they could do some additional work to install beadboard on our back porch as well as paint my porch ceilings the traditional Southern Haint Blue. Ken didn't even baulk at my request and immediately gave me a price for the additional work and started it the next day they came out. His crew took such good care of the property as they worked, cleaned up every day and just did overall exceptional work.
