Ask the Community - Next Door at 3rd Turn

Is Next Door at 3rd Turn really only open on Friday and Saturday evenings?

Currently we are only open two days. Our brewery, 3rd Turn Brewery, next door is open five days and maintains a good stock of bourbon and can make most of our cocktails. Hours are reduced at this time due to Covid. As restrictions ease we will open… Read more

The lounge seating setup was a little unconventional, but the staff quickly accommodated us when I mentioned a concern, which I really appreciated. The service was outstanding. I wish I could remember our server's name because he truly made the experience. He handled the entire lounge area by himself and never missed a beat -- personable, knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly efficient. We ordered a few cocktails along with the hush puppies, Cajun calamari, and Brussels sprouts. The drinks were fantastic, and while the appetizers were good, they weren't quite memorable enough for us to reorder next time. That said, we're definitely planning to come back and explore more of the menu. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend checking out Black Rabbit for yourself. It's a great spot for either a romantic date night or a fun evening out with friends.

Since this restaurant has a speakeasy vibe, I thought it might be part of the schtick. However, I'm not sure how long the business has been open, so maybe the GPS was accurate. Our dinner host who made the reservation had told our group the "password" in order to be taken to our private dining room. When I arrived and approached the hostess stand, she took me via a convoluted route to the rest of the diners, no password required. I guess I was lucky because other diners in our group said they had to provide the password. We arrived during happy hour and it was also martini night, so several items from the appetizer menu (wings, spinach dip, tempura shrimp) and cocktail list were available for reduced price. I ordered tempura shrimp (5 pieces) and a glass of Malbec. The shrimp were bland and were served with a sweet chili sauce that was cloyingly sweet with absolutely no heat. I ended up ordering a bourbon roasted pear salad as my main. It was a better choice with buttery lettuce, chunks of firm pear, crunchy walnuts, and pickled red onions. One of my fellow diners had to wait for her first course appetizer to arrive well after the rest of us had finished ours, as it was either overlooked by waitstaff or the kitchen. Service was slow at times, although the place appeared at not even 1/2 capacity when we arrived and possibly 2/3 when we left 2 hours later. Another diner ordered pizza and said that the toppings were good, but commented that the texture of the crust (underdone) made it unpalatable. Finally, another person in our group had to send her food back to be heated. She indicated the plate was warm, but the food (pot roast Manhattan) was not. Final bill was just under $50 (happy hour shrimp $10, wine $11, salad $18, and an automatic 20% gratuity had been added). Upon reflection, I would perhaps return here for a cocktail to enjoy the lounge and live jazz when that is offered. I would be very hard pressed though to order any food, as there are many more valuable and appealing options nearby at this price point.

I was with a large party and neglected to take pictures because I had such a great time! The food and drinks really deserve to be seen; I apologize for missing that opportunity to show them off. We had out-of-town family visiting and they really enjoyed the experience. The service was exceptional and the food even better. Our experience was all around wonderful and we will be back! The pricing there is on par with the finest restaurants in town and is well worth it. Finally, if you're into it, you cannot go wrong with their house old fashioned. That said, the seasonal Huber's Apple Crusta was a treat yesterday. I ordered one first and the rim tasted like a salty, caramel-ly, sugary slice of apple pie. Not too sweet, just enough. My dinner date ended up ordering another in lieu of dessert.

One Sunday afternoon we had a free time in our schedule and decided Prova would be our destination. We arrived shortly after they opened and were greeted by a festively decorated space that immediately set the mood. The friendly bartender welcomed us, and we took seats at the bar. After looking over the Christmas drink menu, I went with the Yippee-Ki-Cocoa Motherf**er--and wow, it was incredible. Made with truffle bourbon, chocolate amaro, cocoa, and topped with whipped cream and popcorn butter dust, it was hands-down delicious. My wife chose the Zabaione eggnog and reluctantly let me have a taste--it was excellent as well. From the Hemingway's Holiday Spain to the Gingerbread Man-Hatten, every drink we tried was fantastic. They were out of a couple of items, but that barely put a dent in our options. And I can't forget to mention our bartender--he was outstanding: knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. We're already looking forward to going back and ordering from their standard menu.

I walked in around 5:15pm on a monday night, with plans for a friend to join me around 5:30. The sign at the host station said to wait to be seated. So I waited. And waited. and waited... Folks walked in after me, waited for a bit and then sat themselves at the bar. But I did not want to sit at the bar, we wanted to sit at a table. The server seemed to be willfully ignoring me and avoiding my attempts at eye contact. The bartender was taking care of everyone at the bar as well as making drinks for the rest of the patrons too, he saw me eventually and was looking around for the server or (nonexistent?) host to help me out. The bartender ultimately told me that I could just seat myself wherever I wanted, so I did. There were maybe 3 table seated at this point, it was not that busy. Then it took yet another chunk of time (6 pages read in my book I never leave home without) before I got water and menus. I was frustrated but was looking forward to seeing my friend and was ready to make the most of it. All that said, I like the vibe of the space. The dark, cozy vibes. We came because we wanted cocktails and something to nosh on. And eventually we got that. We shared a flatebread and an Asian-inspired hushpuppy sort of situation. They were pretty tasty and nice to have with our cocktails. The cocktail list is longer than expected and with a lot of intriguing sounding offerings. The two I had were very tasty and delicious! I would maybe come back again and sit at the bar so a solo visit if I had a stretch of time and no rush. My overall memory of the visit is still about the over-long wait/being ignored for such a long time after entering.

I also love the corners with comfy couches and chairs. Plenty of beer to enjoy plus a few slushies - although those are so sweet that I'm not a fan. You can bring in your own food or order delivery from a few spots in the Gaslight District. I especially appreciate it's a family friendly space because my sons are teens. I also ordered an Old fashioned, and it was an ultimate concoction with a giant rock of ice. You know an Old fashioned will be good when they don't serve it with chipped ice. We hung out for a few hours and played cards, and the bartenders were friendly and accommodating. I wish this place was closer to us cause we would be regulars! At the very least, we will return in cooler weather to enjoy the outside patio.
