Best thing I ever could have done too. If you had a background like me, not going to a gym for months or years before signing up here, Crossfit Liminal is made for you. Nick Johnson is the founder/head coach, and not only is he super experienced, breaking down movement and form individually, before putting it all together for you, he also tweaks your work outs as you go depending on how you're handling the exercises he gives you. You start off with four sessions of foundation training, which is basically to get you familiar with the moves you'll do in CrossFit. Once you've "graduated", you're free to take classes, or one on one personal training. In addition to those, there's yoga sessions, group workouts on Saturday and a nutrition component that is optional. Classes are usually smaller, having on average 7 to 12 people, and there's enough room to spread out. The gym itself is clean, new and well taken care of. There's a scheduling app where you can pick what days you would like to go and what times of day you would like to go. To keep you motivated, there are also incentives to coming frequently, the first simply being your health and getting stronger. If that's not enough there is the Committed club, where after 15 visits per month, you get your name on a physical board in the gym for all to see, and after 100 visits you get a free gift card to one of my favorite coffee shops, Refuge coffee (one of the local vendors CrossFit Liminal has partnered with). I've managed to hit both of these goals and will try to stay in the committed club as often as I can Just to see the progress! I won't lie to you, I have hurt myself in some way once or twice, and trainers, as well as fellow gym goers have been super understanding regarding you working with lighter weights or altering movements because of your injury. Staff is also excellent with helping to modify an exercise around your injury....just don't sit at home. That motivation and attention to your own personal needs sets this gym apart from so many others. Located off of Church street and park N. Boulevard in the Park North Business center, there's a shared parking lot that i've never had trouble finding a spot in, and they're maybe a quarter mile from 285 (Clarkston exit for reference) I think the biggest positive to me is when you stick with it, you start to notice that you can run a little longer, lift a little heavier and walk out to your car instead of staggering out. You get functionally stronger, and that's a huge win. Taken from their website: "It isn't the scientific sum of calories, workouts, and weight that keeps our members returning. It is not the cutting-edge equipment and technology. It is the people that count." I 100% agree with that statement, that the staff, the people you work out with, from mornings or evenings, are super supportive, nice, and only want you to succeed. Classes were small and coaches were able to encourage members and adjust lifting techniques during workouts if needed. I thought this was helpful as a drop-in, especially, to have different coaches perspectives. Unfortunately, seeing my growing gut and my even faster growing kid, I realized that it's about time to do things. And since my aforementioned wife had already joined the Crossfit cult, she harangued me to join Crossfit Grant Street. Oh, don't think I didn't harbor a hefty dose of skepticism. It also didn't help that most of the people I'd already seen there during my initial assessments were wearing some old t-shirts of whatever college team they were on. Notice, I didn't say, "cheered on," I said, "were on." Was I ever on a college team? Does mathlete count? Beer pong? Not to mention, I went to college back in the pre-Internet dark ages, where faces and books were two different, unrelated things. So yeah, I may be new to the entire working out thing, but at least I'm also really, really old. As I said, skepticism. Fortunately, the gym owners/coaches understand my particular set of...challenges and adjust accordingly. It also helps to leave your ego at the door. Like when I told my doctor I started Crossfit at my annual physical (or what my millennial co-workers call it, "Wait, you go EVERY year?!"), doc responded, "At your age...." (Those sentences never end well. ) "...I don't usually think Crossfit is a good idea. You're surrounded by a bunch of 20 year olds and you try to do what they do and end up hurting yourself." I laughed and responded, "Uh, no. I know my limits. You forget that I've been married long enough that my ego was obliterated years ago. I've already accepted the fact that my wife can deadlift more than I can so I have no problem asking my coaches to scale it down." Doc gave her blessings after hearing that. So I'm a few months into it. I don't go to class every day, though I could if I wanted to. I have the shirt, but I feel bad wearing it since I haven't gotten rid of my gut yet. I've gotten to know many of my fellow gymmates and they're good folks; I don't think they realize how old and broken down I am, but the coaches do and that's what counts since they're the ones scaling my workouts. I'm not part of the cult, but all those years of fighting Sunday School class has built up my resistance towards indoctrination. Still, my body is reshaping itself slowly but surely. I may never be a jock (I'm too much of a nerd at heart), but I'm adding a few more attribute points to my character sheet. I'm all right with that.

My husband has been doing CF for over 5 years, he's incredible at it...... and thats incredibly intimidating. I have seen the transformation from the front line, I wanted it, but the CF cultish,scary strong people thing scared the shit out of me!!!! So i joined ClassPass and literally tried everything I could, Spin, Yoga, Bare, Pilates, boxing, kickboxing and everything in between. I just wanted an effective program that would give me a bigger ass and a body that would fit into the category of 'sexy as F***'! Pretty obtainable goal right!! I can guarantee that if i walked into any other gym 4 months ago, I would still be sitting on the New Years resolution of 'Get in Shape'. Thankfully I walked into this amazing space, filled with positivity and encouragement. I genuinely enjoy spending the best/worst hour of my day with everyone at this gym! The coaches are wonderful people and they are pretty good at coaching too (really good). The gym is spacious & SUPER CLEAN. you may be working out somewhere else or maybe just wishing you worked out in general. The community that is CrossFit Grant Street will support you and push you to be the best version of yourself! This is a review for the "NEXT Level Coaching"...not the Boot Camp…read more After over a year of attending morning Boot Camps (which I love and are very professional), I decided to hire Mari for her NEXT level daily personalized coaching. This is a separate program from the Boot Camp, but offered by the same ABC company. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS WORTHLESS PROGRAM! Instead of daily coaching, I was completely ignored by Mari--in the entire three week period, she sent me two emails. Every day I emailed Mari a detailed list of what I ate and drank--she never looked at or responded to them. She promised to send me restaurants and meal instructions when I was traveling--and never did. She didn't even take a "before" picture, as promised. After being in the program for 1 month and gaining 2 lbs of fat, I demanded she return my $399 fee, which she refused to do. The only thing you will lose in the scam is money.

Sure, it was…read morehard as hell waking up every day at 430am and I never really got used to the fact that I was ready to pass out every night by 8pm. But the workout was fantastic! I was pushed beyond any limit I'd ever imagined and reached goals I never dreamed I could. The instructors were amazing - I never could have made it without them pushing me. They know everyone's name the first day and understand that not everyone is at the same fitness level. Instead they push each person to reach their own individual best and there are enough of them to really keep everyone going. If it hadn't been for the amazing instructors at Pinckneyville I probably would have given up after the first day. If you've never done bootcamp before you have to try it and I highly recommend ABC to get you started. And don't worry about getting into shape first - they'll get you there! It's hard as shit, but you'll be addicted to it - I promise you that.

Anthony is amazingly kind and genuinely cares about his clients. He works with you to perfect your form, set goals, and exceed your expectations. If you're thinking about doing the challenge - do it. Stick to the plan. Stay dedicated and motivated. You'll be so proud when you do! I know it seems like forever, but it's only six weeks! No class is ever the same (except for the sweating), and you will test yourself. I cannot highly recommend FitClub and the six week challenge enough. Not only did I hit my goal of body fat % lost, but I lost weight and gained so much confidence in my mental and physical strength in addition to meeting a ton of great people. Her enthusiasm was very contagious, so I gave it a shot. Tera and Levi were knowledgeable, fun and you could tell they loved their job and their clients. 2 1/2 years and 60+ lbs less, I can tell you this was the best decision I ever made and have never felt better! I'll be 40 this year and encourage everyone to check it out. It doesn't matter where you are in your fitness journey, they will meet you there and help you grow, pushing you to do things you never could or thought you would do.
